What is an Integer?
Integers: All
whole numbers
and their
opposites.
So ALL POSITIVE and NEGATIVE numbers
(including zero)
We use integers in our everyday life!

Money • The positive numbers
represent income while the negative numbers represent debt.

History • BC years are like
negative numbers and AD are like positive numbers.

Golf
• The game of golf is different in that the lower the integer, the better the score. The integer represents the number of strokes below par for the golfer. For example, these are golfers scores for a match.

Football • The number of yards
towards your goal represents a positive integer and the number of yards away from your goal represents a negative integer.

Temperature
• Thermometers are really number lines that stand
upright. The numbers can be thought of as
temperature changes. Positive numbers make the temperature indicator rise.
Negative numbers make the temperature indicator fall.
Examples of Real World Integers
Elevation • The number of feet
above sea level is a positive number and the number of feet below sea level is a negative number.
