March 1999 – Oct 2000 Undertook a community based research titled
“Prevalence and risk factors, of vitamin A deficiency
among pre-school children (6-60 months) in
Kirinyaga District. ” The survey covered three
different sub-locations. It looked at many factors such
as socio-economic status, prevalence of night
blindness, serum retinol levels, nutritional status, food

consumption frequencies, breast feeding patterns,
immunization coverage, morbidity rates and rates of
helminthic infection. Data for this research was
collected using many methods including: - a
household questionnaire, laboratory and clinical
examinations, taking anthropometric measurements
and using focus group discussion for qualitative data.
