I am happy to present this Oct-Dec.2016 issue of Samyukta Saraswat bulletin
to members and well-wishers of AISCO. The cover story of this issue is about
Shree Shantadurga Saardh Chatushatabdi Mahotsava ceremony organized
recently by Shree Shantadurga Devasthan, Kavlem, Ponda, Goa.
In our last issue we had made an appeal to all Saraswats to contribute articles, poems etc. for our
bulletin. We have received overwhelming response to this appeal from Saraswats settled in different
parts of our country. Earlier, Mr. K.G. Mallya had been efficiently publishing Sayumkta Saraswat
bulletin for more than a decade and to follow his path was not an easy task. However our first issue
published from Mumbai has received enthusiastic response and support which clearly indicates that
we are marching ahead in proper direction.

Organising this 450 years completion ceremony of Shree Shantadurga Temple was really a historical

GOLDEN ERA OF SHRI GOKARN MATH
About this Book
While writing this book, I was much
conscious that there are quite a few books,
souvenirs, published photograph albums,
special issues of various magazines and
newspapers on H. H. Shrimat Vidyadhiraj
Tirth Shripad Vader Swamiji of Shri Gokarm
Partagali Jeevotham Math. Yet I thought that
I too must write a book or a book-let at least,
befitting the great occasion of 50th
Chaturmas aptly called ‘Suvarna Chaturmas’
of Shri Swamiji in Mangalore Branch of Shri
Gokarn Math from 24th July, 2016 to 16th as I
had attended quite a few great events of the
Math and also of
Shri Swamiji, starting from the ‘Deeksha Day’
of Shri Swamiji on 26th Feb., 1967 in Wadala
Math, Mumbai. I had not only witnessed but
also recorded many events by way of press
reports and articles in some of the
magaz ines l i ke Konkan i Mon th l y
P a n c h k a d a y i , K a n n a d a M o n t h l y
Yugapurusha and Samyukta Saraswat,
Quarterly English Bulletin of All India
Saraswat Cultural Organisation, Mumbai
from 2000 to 2016. All these reports have
found a place in this book in one from or the
other.

According to me, Shri Swamiji is a Great
Achiever if I am permitted to say so and also
a Spiritual Master of great eminence in the
era as of Religion and Spiritual matters. His
Holiness has led by example how great
things can be organised and results be
obtained by constant efforts and also by
winning the grace of the Lord Almighty by
sincerely praying and seeking His Mercy at
all times. I am grateful to Shri Swamiji for
giving me an opportunity to write by giving
information I needed and also photographs
to be included in this book.
Then I must express my sense of gratitude to
Shri Swamiji who was kind enough to release
two of these books: K. G. Mallya(AISCO)
1) “Rigveda, Ashwalayana and Saraswat
Brahmins” during the Vishwa Saraswat
Sammelan in Mangalore in Dec., 1999 and
2. “Wedding of Princess Sita” during the
Vishwa Shanti Mahayajna in Shantikunj,
Harigram, panvel in Dec. 2008.
Although they are own people, I thank my
wife Mrs. Lamidevi Mallya and my daughters
Mrs. Mohini Kamath and Mrs. Nandini
Kamath who have given me very valuable
suggestions while preparing the script.My

giving qualitative printing at reasonable

TALENTED YOUNG SARASAWAT, ANVITA TELANGSaraswats have been blessed with talent is what we have been hearing. When nurtured with good guidance, we can conquer the world. This has again been proved by 11 year old Anvita Prashant Telang by winning the 2016 Doodle 4 Google competition in India. Anvita is a student of Vibgyor High School at Balewadi, Pune.
Like every year, this year too, the competition received entries from all parts o f I nd ia . The re we re approximately 1 lac entries that got enrolled for this competition. This competition w a s g r o u p e d i n t o 3 categories Group 1 (class 1 to 3), Group 2 (class 4 to 6) and Group 3 (class 7 to 10). Anvita participated in Group 2 category. The competition
thstarted on 5 Sept and the end date was 21 Oct 2016. This period coincided with her exam time, but she ensured that she has reasonably ample time to devote to her doodle. She managed to take time off her exam schedule for this winning doodle.
This year the theme was, “If I could teach
anyone anything, it would be...” Her
response to the theme was a simple
statement “Enjoy Every Moment”. Anvita is a
very keen observant. And she has been
observing the fast paced lives of people
around including that of her own parents who
work dawn to dusk and at the end of the day
come back home tired. Perhaps that is what
could have triggered her to come up with this
thought of “Live in the moment”. If given a
chance, she would want to teach the world to
take time to enjoy every moment of life and
appreciate the simple things around us.
Anvita says, “In the current stressful times,
greatest joys of life are often hidden in simple
things. Thus I would like to teach everyone to
take time to enjoy every moment of life and
appreciate the simple things around us.”
With this concept in mind, her thought on
how the picture should be and with some
guidance from her mother
Aparna with respect to
colours, she came up with

represented “Live in the
moment” theme. Anvita’s
mother, Aparna Telang is a
V i s u a l D e s i g n e r b y
profession. Anvita’s artistic
streak probably comes from
her. Her father, Prashant
Te l a n g i s a P r o j e c t
Consultant and has his own
venture (e-Stridez.com).
Anvi ta has a passion
towards art work, especially greeting cards
for her loved ones and also on some special
occasions. She loves watching youtube
videos on some creative stuff and gets
inspired to do it, all by herself. Looking at her
inclination towards art, her parents have
always encouraged her to take part in
competitions, not with the intention of
winning it but to get that competitive spirit
and good exposure. She also got enrolled
herself into an art class to help her hone her
art skills and get finesse in her work.
From 1 lac entries, 12 doodles were
shortlisted (4 from each group). Anvita’s

doodle was one of them (in Group2). She,
along with other 11 finalists, was called to
Gurgoan for felicitation. The next round was
the voting round where public had to vote for
their favourite doodle and the doodle from
each group getting maximum votes would be
selected among the top three contestants.
Incidentally, Anvita’s doodle got the
maximum votes in her group. Then came the
round where the judges had to choose the
best out of the 3 doodles which the public
voted the most. And finally a call from Google
India confirmed that of all the entries, Anvita’s
was the National winning doodle. It was an
overwhelming news for Anvita and her
parents. Anvita’s reaction after learning that
she had been declared the National Winner
of this competition was indescribable. She
could not believe it when she was told about
the result. It took a while before the news
finally sunk in. Her mother has been an
integral part of her success. As a mother
from creative field, her guidance was always
there throughout Anvita’s creative process.
She would throw in her ideas and would ask
for her mother’s suggestion. Constructive
feedback helped Anvita scale her skills to
international levels. Her mother, Aparna
encourages all children, “Keep drawing and
take part in such competitions, being a
winner is not that important. What is
important is the sense of satisfaction one
gets in participation.”

In India just after the rainy season,when the
dense leafy foliage is turning greener, the
onset of Spring heralds number of festivals.
Navaratri being one of them. The festival is
for worshipping Goddess in various forms
symbolising strength of women, fertility,
knowledge, wealth. We get to see Maa
Durga being worshipped with ever
increasing passion.
We witnessed one such massive surge of
devotees at Kavale Math, st
Walkeshwar, Mumbai, from 1 th
till 11 October 2016 during
Navaratri festival, to evoke the
bliss and blessings of the
Goddess Shanta Durga.
Needless to mention that
nobody needs any formal
invitation to join this auspicious
occasion.This time Parampujya
Shivanand Swamiji had graced
the occasion.
Each day the deity would be adorned with
beautiful colourful flowers. All the days
‘Aartis ‘and ‘Pujas’ were well attended with
thfull devotion. However on the 6 October 16, ’
Lalita Panchami’ which is considered as the
most auspicious day of Navaratri, the
devotees were seen rejoicing the tuneful
togetherness at this place of worship- Kavale
Math.
‘Kavale Math’ is situated in a picturesque
natural scape near Banaganga Talav

that has credence for its Historical lineage.
Anushthan Puja’of ‘Panchami’ was
performed by Mr. Kishore Kulkarni the
Chairman of NKGSB Bank.
The whole place resonating with tuneful
chime and rhym with the chanting of Sanskrit
Shlokas and prayers by the Brahmins. The
graceful deity of Shanta Durga was seated
on a swing that was adorned with gorgeous
colourful flowers.
N u m b e r o f v a r i o u s
performances took place as
devotional gesture. The day
reverberated with nostalgic
nuggets of all moods and
genres such as, in the
instrumental music, the flute
recital by Mr.Vinay Rao filled up
the holy place wi th i ts
melodious notes. The budding Tabala Player
Tanmay Rege exulted the skill with his deft
fingers on Tabala. A treat to ears. Shubham
Kolaskar, a 13 years old boy recited some
‘Abhang’, the dulcets in his soulful voice
touching the inner chords of the audience.
Omkar Lolekar recited Shlokas from
‘Bhagvat Geeta’. Similarly 6 years old Raj
thPrasad Pandit recited 16 ‘Adhyay’ Of
Bhagvat Geeta verbally, without reading,with
seemingly effortless ease and elan.

Little 8 years old, an accomplished dancer,
Dhanashri Pai presented a frolicsome dance
performance enacting ‘Radha Krishna’
concept through a song. Her swift
movements and apt gestures made people
regale and rejoice. The captive audience
gave encouraging response and lauded her
liberally. The repertoire of all ‘Dharmik’ ditties
and other performances were delivered
through ‘Bhaktibhav’ and with great
confidence as well as consummate skill,
winning the hearts of the people around. This
kind of appreciation and encouragement
would go a long way in their promising
career.
Mrs. Veena Gaitonde rendered some soulful
ensemble of dulcets in praise of the
Goddess, adding festive feel and fervour.
Later, there was ‘Kumkumarchan’ by married
women.
In the enlivening evening,‘performed by
Aarati’ of the deity Shanta Durga was Param
Pujya Swamiji. Prasadam was in the form of
delicious feast for all those present at the
venue.
In the feast, there were sweets and
savouries that added zing and zest to the
Soiree. The next day a Bhajan group by
name Balaji Sameeti from Vasai performed
some pious, mellifluous ditties in form of
Bhajans in the premises. Finally on the
Dussehara day, it was time to wind up the
celebration and bid adieu to this festival with
unabated enthusiasm, excitement and fond
memories to cherish.
The vibrant Navaratri festival further binds,
bonds and brings together all the
devotionally inclined, under one roof for nine
days, to celebrate faith in Oneness.

Devi Navadurga Temple.Kuldevata of many Saraswats /GSBs
visitors can explore the Arabian Sea by hiring
a catamaran. Redi does not have its own
airport and railway station. The International
Airport of Goa at Dabolim is the nearest
airport, which has worldwide flight
connections. Sawantwadi Railway Station at
a distance of 25 km is the closest rail head to
Redi. Besides, Maharashtra State Road
Transport Corporation and Kadamba
Transport Corporation provide regular bus
services to the coastal village.
Tourist places in Redi
Sightseeing in Redi includes
attractions like Redi Beach,
Redi Ganapati and Shri
Navadurga Temple. Shiroda
beach is also nearby. The
famous temples in Aaravali
area are Dev Vetoba & Devi
Sateri. Vengurla-Redi is rich in
nature. Vengurla and Redi are
among the 48 sea ports of
Maharashtra. Vengurla is also
known as “Goa of Maharashtra” due to its
similar climate and vegetation. Vengurla-
Redi is surrounded by a healthy cover of
greenery with lots of cashews, mangoes,
beetel nuts and coconut trees.Redi Ganapati
is situated to the south-west of Sawantwadi.
Shri Devi Navadurga Temple of Kanyale-
Redi is close to the popular Terekhol Fort of
Goa. Goddess Navadurga is the form of
Goddess Parvati, who is considered as a
kuldevata of several Goud Saraswat
Brahmins.
Redi is a coastal village located at
Sindhudurg District in Maharashtra on the
border of Goa.
Situated on the shores of the Arabian Sea
and dotted by coconut and cashew trees, the
coastal village can be reached from
Vengurla. It is in Vengurla Taluka. Earlier
known as Redipattanam, Redi was an
important sea port during olden times. Over
the years, it has become a tourism
destination due to its virgin
along with historic monuments
like Yashwantgad Fort, Redi
Ganapati Temple and Devi
Navadurga Temple at Kanyale.
The entire Sindhudurg district is
rich in Nature and much
beautiful than Goa with several
beaches, flora & fauna.
Yashwantgad Fort, a major
sightseeing attraction of Redi,
was built during the reign of the
Marathas. Among notable
religious shrines in and around Redi are
Ganesha Temple, Swayambhu Shiv Temple,
Rampurush Temple, Mauli Temple and
Navadurga Temple. Aaravali, Shiroda,
Vengurla, Kanyale and the historic fort at
Terekhol nearby can also be visited.
The Ganesh temple has an idol of Lord
Ganesha with two hands. The Ganesha idol
was extracted from a mine nearby. Vengurla
in the vicinity to Redi is popular for fishing
hamlets. Along with activities such as fishing,

Shri Devi Navadurga Temple of Kanyale-
Redi Goddess Navadurga, a form of
Goddess Parvati is the kuldevata of several
Goud Saraswat Brahmin families, among
others. Most of the Mahajans(Kulavis) of this
f r o m G o a , M u m b a i , P u n e ,
Ubhadanda (Vengurla), Karnataka, & USA.
N a v a d u r g a i s a l s o k n o w n a s
Mahishasuramardini. The original temple of
Devi Navadurga was at Gavashi (Gancim in
Tiswadi taluka of Goa) Since 10th Century,
but during Portuguese invasion / persecution
in Goa in the 16th Century , the Godess idol
was shifted to present location at Kanyale-
Redi. It has been believed that the idol of
Navadurga has been here at Kanyale Redi
for more than 450 years. The history of how
the goddess was shifted to its present
location is very interesting and the story can
be read on the website.
Devi Navadurga is a famous deity of GSB’s
with its other temples located in Goa at
Madkai, Kundai, Bori, Paingein, Adkolna,
Pale, Surla, etc.

tirth Prasad. Also Navratri Festival is
celebrated in the hall of Institution with great
enthusiasm. This time Saraswat caste and
all other castes and Bank’s officers come to
attend this festival. That time also for nine
days Shri. Goddess Saraswati has been
given flowers mala.
Also health campaign of Homeopathy,
Alopathy, Ayurvedik are conducted for
people of this caste, Also institution has
made a bond with Vokard Hospital at
Bombay-Central with that bond if any
member patient is gone to Vokard Hospital
for medical checkup or for admitting, he get
discount on medical expenses.

INTRODUCTION:
Sammelan is the right place where the
community gets together to discuss and
exchange their views on the development of
community where the message of caution is
specifically addressed. The subsequent
propagation through the journal and person
to person communication will help to reach
the members of the community at large. For
this sammelan in Hejmady, we shall
re-dedicate ourselves to protect the purity
our community standards During the last
sammelan held in Goa, I gave a call to my
community brothers and sisters, that we
have to come out of the barricade of
classification in Saraswats like GSB, SB,
RSB, KSB etc in the matter of alliance. The
action of breaking the community into groups
has already came from the past and
continued even today. Our community
young generation is unable to get the proper
alliance because of the inherent restrictions
lying in the system. Mutt heads, community
associations are already working in this
direction to reform.
CROSS THE BORDERS :
Originally, Gaud Brahmins were residing in
the present Kurukshetra area called as
ARYAVARTA /BHRAMHAVARTA – the area
between Saraswati and Dhrushadwati
rivers. Over a period of time on various
reasons, the same Gaud Brahmins migrated
to different places and combindly called as
PANCHA GAUDS namely Adi Gaud,
Saraswats, Kaanyakubj, Maithil and Utkal
Brahmins, spread all over the country.
Today, our younger generation is migrating
on the entire globe in search employment.
The present youngsters have started
selecting their matrimonial partners from
any other communi ty wi thout the
consideration to the limits imposed on Four
Segments (Chatur-Varna). Parents have
less say in the selection of a partner for their
children. If by any chance, the choice fell on
any Brahmin Community, then there is no
reason to give approval. Do not see
anything beyond this. The choice like
education, age, beauty, job, family status etc
are done by our youngsters who are
predominantly looking for a suitable earnings
on the basis like classmate, colleague in
most of the cases.
WHY FROM THE SAME COMMUNITY?
Manu smriti (Manu Dharma Shastra), Guru
Charitra, Bhagvat Gita etc issue strictures for
inter-community / inter-religion marriages.
This is because the progeny (children)/
p r o d u c e d r e s u l t i n g i n l o w e r
community/caste. In other words, this
phenomenon is called as VARNA-SANKARA
(mal-genetics). In Kurukshetra battle field,
Arjuna refuses to wage the war only because
there will be inter–community produces
lower cadre generation resulting after the
war. As per Sage Manu – A Brahmin must
marry a Brahmin and other segments should
also follow the same rule. i.e. the essence
is, marriage within the community produces
pure society (that will not produce another
lower community/caste)

CHARACTER OF A SOCIETY :
As per Chanakya, the society consists of
people of all Segments (Varnas) with
balanced proportion of population to
maintain equilibrium. This proportion of
population if maintained without mal-
progeny, Such society is enjoying peace,
dignity, respect for others and promote
Dharmadharita jeevana with Ethics.(moral).
Brahmins are Satwik community and form
the nucleus of the society that which protects
the entire population leading self and others
to Dharmadharita jeevana.
CONCLUSION:
This message is extended for al l
communities to protect their community
culture (samskruti) and the respective role of
contribution to the welfare of the society. This
is done by encouraging their youngsters to
marry from their own community. Any
imbalance will lead to the production of lower
and lower castes having variation of
character, color, culture etc. Everyone must
work for the welfare of the entire population
by performing our duty to set our family in
order as per DHARMA (Refer The Times

Brahmin in the history of Bollywood.He was
an ace director-actor & producer.He is
included among the greatest directors of all
time by the Sight & Sound critics’ & directors’
poll.In 2010 he was included among top 25
Asian directors of all time by CNN .His films
Pyaasa & Kagaz Ke Phool are included
among the greatest films
and are included in Time
magzine’s “All Time” 100
best movies.
Guru Dutt was born in a

Dutt spent his early
childhood in Bhovanipore
in West Bengal & spoke
fluent Bengali.He acted in
a film called “Chand” in a
small role of Sri Krishna & later acted as

in films like “Lakharani” & Hum Ek Hain.He
also used to write short stories in English for
The Illustrated Weekly Of India.Guru Dutt
struck an enduring friendship with Dev
Anand and as a result directed “Baazi” in
1950-51.This was followed by not so
successful “Jaal” &”Baaz”.Baazi was
superhit at the box office.Guru Dutt
own team of Waheeda Rehman,Johny
Walker,cinematographer V.K.Murthy &
writer-director Abrar Alvi.He made Aar Paar
in 1954 followed by Mr. & Mrs. 55,C.I.D. &
Sailab out of which the first three films were
superhit.He then made Pyaasa in 1954
which was a failure but is regarded as a
classic film.He then made Kagaz Ke Phool
which also flopped but like Pyaasa is
regarded as a classic film.
Afterwards he made

Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam
both of which struck gold
at the box office.His last
appearance was in a

Mehboob Khan.He acted only in about 16
films & directed 8 films.But that was sufficient
to seal his place at the top in Bollywood
