Generall Instructions for first start-up
The Provitec drink water filter system has been developed to remove
different types of pollutions which may be present in drinking water.
Please read some special instructions regarding “lime”:
Lime filtration:
All the lime solved in the drinking water, consists of Calcium- and Magne-
sium ions. Nutritionally, lime has positive effects on the human body.
The consumption quantity of Calcium and Magnesium as food from
drinking water to supply the human organisms is low.
Lime is a very dominant flavor carrier in drinking water. Higher lime
concentration is tasted as “full flavoured”. Low lime concentration is
tasted as “soft”.
Drinking water with allmost no lime concentration or without lime tasted
slightly bitter.
After filtering lime from hard water you can taste changes. You will get
same experience when you try coffee without sugar, it`s different.
The human taste sense will adjust pretty fast to the new taste of lime free
water.
From a total hardness starting 8 – 10°dH, lime will precipitate on tempe-
ratures above 45°C and calcify technical devices, pipes, etc.
Drinking water with hardness below 7-8°dH is stable and will not precipi-
tate, even on higher temperatures.
The Provitec drink water filter system ProAqua 4200 can, depending on
the configuration, be established with an ion-exchanger for total or
partial removing of lime.
At the first start-up of the Provitec drinking water filter system, more
mineral salts will be submitted as “lime”-ions absorbed. This positive
effect increases the amount of mineral salts in the drinking water, which
temporary results in higher pH-levels (alkaline water). This alkaline
water sometimes tastes different, somestime like earthy, sometimes
floury, etc.
Permanent drinking of alkaline water is as problematical as acid water
(e.g. demineralized water).
At the end of the start-up phase ( 2 to 3 weeks ) a neutral ion exchange
and a neutral pH-level of the drinking water will be reestablished - perma-
nent.

C/01: To rinse the water filter for the first time, you have to remove the pre-filter and the REDOXOL-Wool from the upper part of the filter.
Then, close the filter casing and put the water filter under the sink.
Put the inlet tube into the lower part of the filter.
C/02: Put the outlet tube into the upper part of the filter.
C/03: Put the outlet tube into the upper part of the filter. Open the shut-off valve and the tap and rinse the filter for at least 10 minutes. After rinsing the filter, close the shut-off valve, but leave the tap open until no water is left in the filter.Do not close the tap.
page 21
IV: Trouble shooting:
H/01: No water runs through an open tap.
a) Make sure the shut-off valve is open.
b) Make sure, the lever of the tap is open.
c) There is air inside the filter. The bacteria filter is wet and therefore doesn't let air
escape through the bacteria filter. In order to solve this problem, open the air
vent with a coin (about 3 turns) to relieve the inner pressure. Close the air vent
afterwards. Remove the inlet and outlet tubes and turn the filter upside down.
Plug the inlet tube into the lower part (in the upside down position the upper
part) and the outlet tube into the upper part (in the upside down position the
lower part).
Open the shut-off valve and the tap and rinse the filter for 2 minutes. The air will
escape from the filter. Close the shut-off valve and wait until no water is left in
the filter. Then plug the tubes back into their usual position.

III: Maintanance:
F: How to mantain the filter media
F/01: If your PROaqua 4200 has been equipped with a ion exchanger, you have to regenerate this as well.
For example:Your tap water contains 100 mg Nitrate per litre and you use 10 litres of filtered water per day. In this case, the nitrate resin is saturated after 12 weeks. If the filtered water contains mores than 10 mg Nitrate per litre we recommend the regeneration of the filter.
F/02: You can easily check the saturation of your ion exchanger with a test strip.
Take a glass of filtered water and dip a test strip into the water for one second. After one minute, check the colour of the strip. If it shows a concen-tration of Nitrate of 10 mg/litre, you need to regenerate the filter. You should never allow the concentration of Nitrate to exceed 25 mg/litre.
Regeneration, see page 11
Test strips may be purchased at your local pharmacyor your PROVITEC dealer.
PROaqua 4200 should be regeneratedevery 3 months.

E: How to regenerate the filter media
It is very easy and cheap to regenerate your PROaqua 4200 water filter. It is no problem to do it yourself.
You should regenerate PROaqua 4200 on a regular basis about every 3 months.
PROaqua 4200 needs to be regenerated, if ....
…the nitrate resin does no longer absorb any Nitrate.
For example: Your tap water contains 100 mg Nitrate per litre and you use
10 litres of filtered water a day. In this case, the nitrate resin is saturated after
12 weeks. If the filtered water contains mores than 10 mg Nitrate per litre we
recommend the regeneration of the filter.
... if the lime resin does no longer absorb anythingoFor example: The hardness of your tap water is 25 e (U.K. & Ireland) / 357,
2 PPM (USA) and you use 10 litres of filtered water a day. In this case, the
lime resin is saturated after 10 weeks. If the filtered water has a degree of ohardness over 6,25 e (U.K. & Ireland) / 89,3 PPM (USA) we recommend the
regeneration of the filter.
... the bacteria filter is blocked by suspended particles. You will notice that
the amount of water being filtered per minute is reduced from 2.5 litres to
1 litre.
... you have not used the filter for some time.
... you have just changed the cartridges.
The „counter-current regeneration“ guarantees an optimal cleaning of all filter
media and the bacteria filter. By turning the filter upside down during the
regeneration process, the pollutants are washed out directly.

E/14: It takes about 20 litres of water to regenera-te the filters. Considering that the amount per minute is 0.2 litres, it will take about 2 hours to regenerate the filter
ATTENTION:The water that runs out of the tap during the process of regeneration is full out pollutants
and nitrate!
Do not drink this water!Keep away from children!
E/15: To rinse the filter, open the regeneration valve (6) and let the water run for about 5 minu-tes. All remaining salt etc. will be thus removed.
E/16: Then, close the shut-off valve and - after no water is left in the filter - the tap.
