Emphasis
Focal Point-‐Visual is the loca1on where your eye is drawn to visually. In homes the visual point could be a chandelier or a pain1ng. In formal rooms, or more specifically the dinning room the main focal point could be a chandelier or china cabinet.
The focal point would be the mirror above the dinning room table

When considering building a new southern home keep in mind adding lots of windows to the living room area. Lots of windows in a living room or dining room can really open a room up, can be nice scenery, and
adds a beau1ful vocal points.
Massing
42
When choosing objects with actual density consider objects that are filled in, things that are very solid.
Tables such as this one, look very nice in the entryway of a southern home. Consider adding a floral arrangement for a more elegant look.
43
Op1mal density is like an allusion. It gives objects a weighted, more solid appearance. The massing of the picture frames and the boxes along with the large vase create great balance. The vase gives the allusion of op1cal density un1l you actually pick up the vase.
EDITORS NOTE: Adding a large vase to create op1cal density would look nice in an entry way to a southern home.
Rhythm
Repe11ve rhythm establishes a con1nuous
flow of rhythm and provides unity or
sameness. Repe11ve color in a southern home can establish rhythm if smoothly connected
rather than jumping from one colored object to
another.
44
However, even though the colors in the above picture do jump from one color to the next, the pillows in living room in the above picture are repe11ve since they repeat between the black, white and grey colors. The table and table decora1ons also help 1e the room together.
Clima1c rhythm can been seen in the value of color. Have very light color on the ceiling, then medium to on the was, to dark on the floor or furniture.
45
Clima1c shapes progress from Large to small, or small to large, such as different size candles arranged on a table.
As seen in the above picture, the carpet is a light cream color, the walls then get darker with the shade of purple, to finally the dark black of the
comforter. Clima1c rhythm can be very aesthe1cally pleasing if done correctly.
