TERM 2 - WEEK 9 WK A
I would like to thank the students, parents/caregivers for the settled return to full-time face-to-face learning this term. The department has now published guidelines for the return to full time face-to-face learning that covers activities for the rest of this term and for activities in Term 3. This document has been placed on both our Facebook page and Website. The reports for Year 11 and Year 12 have been published and distributed. Please contact the school if you want to discuss your childs progress or if you have any other concerns. Junior reports are being completed and will be published and distributed early in Term 3.
The school canteen has re-opened with limited food options, we thank you for your patience with this matter. With the onset of the cold weather I would like to remind families that full winter uniform is expected to be worn, please refer to the updated uniform policy on our schools website, if there are any issues or concerns please contact the schoolThank you to the Sapphire Wind Farm Community Fund and Inverell High P & C for your Shade for Schools project. Our marquee looks great and will be a wonderful asset for future outdoor events.Mr Chris DrakeRelieving Principal

SUPPORT UNITAs part of our community access program the students of SU1 and SU2 went bush walking at Lake Inverell. All students had a lovely time, enjoying the warm weather, being outdoors and above all they enjoyed a drink from McDonalds shouted by Mrs Ludwig. Two students have shared their favourite moments while at Lake Inverell.Ben: “My favourite parts of Lake Inverell were the walking and talking with Mrs Alliston, watching ants – not normal brown ants but large meat ants - running around everywhere. I also enjoyed having a frappe at the picnic area”.Kiara: “I thought that Lake Inverell was very pretty. My favourite parts were seeing the black swans floating on the lake, the walking track and having a milkshake at the picnic area”.

CHESS TEAMASX SHARE MARKET GAMEEarlier this year the ASX ran the first of its two annual national Australian Schools Share Market Games for 2020. The competition was well supported with a total of 17,018 entrants - 5,630 from schools in NSW. Students were given a virtual share trading account balance of $50,000 and 10 weeks to buy and sell shares from any of the top 200 shares on the ASX. Inverell High School had a number of students who entered the competition this year and Liam Downey of Year 11 placed within the final 20% of students nationwide. Liam finished the competition with a closing balance of $55,534, making a profit of $5,534 in a 10 week period. Top performing student, Zain from Whitebridge High School near Newcastle, NSW had an incredible result! Taking his starting balance of $50,000 and turning it into $116,468.60 in only 10 weeks. This was a phenomenal result, especially during such a volatile period for share markets globally, directly affected by the coronavirus pandemic.Game 2 commences 19th August and will provide a second opportunity for students to learn how to manage investments in the Australian Share Market. More information can found at https://game.asx.com.au/game/info/school/about-the-game .

Inverell High Chess Team competed in Round 2 of the Country Secondary Schools competition against Macintyre High School. The team played online in the library, but unfortunately MHS were the stronger players on the day winning 3-1. There were some very close and long games and some disappointing regrets regarding moves, but it’s always good to learn from mistakes and improve on your game. We used the Lichess.org platform which has some great functions for anyone keen to practise their chess at home.Chess Club meets Monday’s in the Library at lunchtime. Due to COVID-19 cleaning guidelines for sporting equipment and games, we will be playing in the online format.

CLONTARF ACADEMYThe Inverell Academy have been busy over the past two weeks engaging boys back to school after the COVID-19 break. With regular pick ups each morning, delicious lunches and lots of activity in the Academy room we are slowly getting our numbers back to capacity. We farewelled Director Michael Watton at the end of last term, Michael is now the Director of the Moree Academy and we wish him all the best in his future endeavours. With Michael leaving, Linden is now the acting Director and Luke remains in his role as Operations Officer.
