Current Submission, Review and Approval Processfor the
Barrier Hardware Guide
• One web site for presenting the online Barrier Hardware Guide
http://aashtotf13.tamu.edu
• A separate web site for the submission, review and approval of systems:
http://barrierguide.proboards.com • Current standard operating procedure instructions are by necessity extremely
detailed.• All communications are manual via email, phone, etc.• Voting on ready systems is currently scheduled around TF13 meetings.• Requires the retention of a web site Gatekeeper at TTI to manually manipulate the
upload and location of drawings, updating of html index files, creation of ProBoard forums and communication with the submitter and various TF13 members.
Being the most meticulously defined, it was felt the standard operating procedures for this guide should be used as a model for all of the guides when designing the new system.
Network & Information Systems
So, what is the plan for the new web site?
Network & Information Systems
Planned Site for Online Guides• A standardized, user friendly, dynamic presentation to the public of all of the
existing online guides.• Keep the best features of the current sites such as the status of a system
being noted in the upper left hand corner of that system’s detail page, system listing layouts, etc.
• Retaining the search and keyword methodologies from the existing sites and supplementing with an advanced search tool.
• A user friendly administrative module allowing authorized TF13 members to perform all of the processes currently associated with the Gatekeeper with regard to submission, review and approval of systems. The need for a Gatekeeper will be eliminated.
• Simplification of processes through automation.• Security of data and control of review forums through verifiable logon ids.• Systems will be automatically “published” as soon as they are approved.• Data will be maintained historically, including earlier versions of systems
and related review comments. In addition, as much historic data from the current web sites as possible will be imported to the new site.

Planned Submission, Review and Approval Processfor the
All Online Guides(The Administrative Module)
• Simplification and standardization of the standard operating procedures through the automation at key points in the process of:
– The setting of system statuses.– Email notifications.– The creation and archival of system forums.– The automatic “publication” of approved systems.
• Offering the Review Group Technical Representatives ease of tracking the progress and status of systems under review, and communicating to TF13 as systems become ready for a vote.
• Voting on ready systems may be done online and thus independently of TF13 meeting schedules.
The processes for all of the online guides will be modeled after the Barrier Hardware Guide processes, with adjustments to take into account the individual characteristics of each guide.

On-Line Guides
Task Force 13 of the AASHTO-AGC-ARTBA Joint Committee maintains several on-line guides to a variety of highway products. The on-line guides that are available from the Task Force are listed at the left. The links at the left will take you to the particular guides where you can search for particular systems, view system details, download photographs and drawings, and see components. The "system" guides provide information about complete systems such as particular bridge rail systems, sign support systems and luminaire support systems. The component guide provides details about the parts used in the non-proprietary systems like botls, posts, brackets, guardrail sections, etc.
