The Problem
76.7% of residents living in Worcester have no educational experience beyond high school. This leads to a cycle that leaves children with limited opportunity to improve their lives.
Recent budget cuts in Worcester’s public school system has closed numerous extracurricular programs, leaving kids with few options that will help them develop.
The solution
Play It Forward will address these problems by providing the Worcester community with a program that uses academics and sports in unison to improve children's lives.
How It’s being done
Sports would include: soccer, basketball and volleyball
3-hour session every Sunday
1.5 hours doing schoolwork
1.5 hours doing sports, after schoolwork
Using sports and academics to encourage:
Happiness, joy, determination, structure and discipline
Kids + Sports = Opportunity
Short term goals:
Improve the lives of kids in the Worcester community through academic and athletic success
Incorporating student-athletes as role models
Long term goals:
Help to increase academic opportunities after high school
what would $3,000 do?
Expenses:
T-shirts for kids and staff
Soccer balls, basketballs, volleyballs
Hire orientation director to familiarize staff with the programs mission
