Well we have boats in the harbor and we are waiting for the weather to break. Seems we keep getting teased with fair weather only to be reminded that mother nature moves at her own pace! April showers bring May flowers blah blah blah!
Thanks to everyone who was able to attend the annual meeting and to the GIYC board, bridge, and com-mittee members for their reports.
Lady Tamara and I will be representing GIYC at the Wyandotte Yacht Club and Detroit Beach Boat Club in May.
Please mark your calendars and plan to attend this Year’s Past Commodores Auction on May 4th and remember these proceeds go back into the benefit of the club. Boating season will be within our grasp soon!!
We’ve received the following reciprocal invitations to date from Clubs in the area; • Perrysburg Boat ClubReminders: • May 1st- Club open Wednesday thru Sunday • Past Commodores Auction May 4th • Fitting out party May 11th • BOD meeting Monday, May 20th
Let’s look at some of the ways we can celebrate in May; • May 12 Mother’s Day • May 27 Memorial DayFor the interesting; • May 12 Limerick Day (Sharpen that pencil FC!)Limerick is a genre of poetry that traditionally has 5 lines and has an AABBA rhyme scheme. A rhyme scheme is the pattern of rhymes in a poem. To identify a poem's rhyme scheme, each line is designated with a letter. Lines that share a letter rhyme have words at the end that rhyme with each other. This means that in a limerick, which has an AABBA rhyme scheme, the words at the end of the first, second and fifth sentences rhyme, while the words at the end of the third and fourth sentence rhyme with each other.

Humorous SituationsTraditionally, the first line of a limerick introduced a person and a place and the rest of the poem described a humorous and often times obscene situation involving the subject or the place. How to Celebrate? • Celebrate Limerick Day by reading some of Lear's limericks. Also, check out other poets' limericks as well. • Write your own limericks and share them with your family and friends. • Did You Know…. ..that the oldest surviving poem, The Epic of Gilgamesh, is from about 2100 BCE
Please check the Spray calendar for other events at the club!Hoping to see you at the Commodore’s Ball June 1st. We are looking forward to celebrating with all of you.
As always, be well,Commodore Gary Dust GIYC

Okay, so April apparently doesn’t know the rhyme any better than March did. April showers are supposed to be rain showers not snow showers! I’m hoping by the end of the month we’ll be looking back on this and it will all seem funny. Floods, snow storms, tornados Tigers in the Woods, Oh My! Good for those few who dared to launch early, I hear Chris Conway was actually sailing on Reflex before Tax Day! Nicely done, Chris.
For those of you who didn’t make it to the Annual Meeting, we were treated to some good news, some visionary ideas, and got it all done in under two hours. See any one of the Bridge or Board for details. We will have a fun year with lots of entertainment and opportunities to grow closer together as a club.
Only a few weeks left before everything needs to be cleared off of Peek-a-boo in preparation for the Memorial Day Holiday, the official start of the boating season for the year. I’m sure our Fleet Captain, Rick Bohl, would appreciate everyone doing their part to help make launch go smoothly and see our harbor full once again.
Don’t forget to reach out to P/C Hartwell and pitch in to clean up the grounds and gardens. The club has never looked better and with your help it will continue to.
P/C Milkins has been hard at work getting the docks all back in shape after the ice did what it does and rearranged things a little bit. Oh yeah, you know those down boards that are attached to un-assigned wells or the main dock, get with Bruce and see what help he needs to get them all bolted down so the harbor looks ship shape. Grab a paint brush and some white paint. Let’s make the place look great.
Our first regatta of the year and first music on the patio will be held on Saturday May 25th. Come on down and join in the fun, watch the boats return to the club and enjoy the sunshine, warm weather and warm friendship that I’m sure is going to be there for us.
Great Friends, Great Lakes, Great Times.

what’s new!!!
The spring launching season has begun. Please refrain from parking on Peek-A-Boo. If you do, please leave your keys in your car so it can be moved if necessary. This gives the travel lift operators the ability to maneuver when launching boats. For members that are storing on Peek-A-Boo please keep in mind that you will need to launch by May 21-22, the weekend before Memorial Day.
Please be aware we launch in reverse order of when you were hauled out. If you were last out - you are first in. Be courteous to your fellow Peek a Boo and be ready to launch when it is your turn. All shoring materials will need to be removed from Peek-A-Boo by May 24th, the Friday be- fore Memorial Day.
There is a Harbor Map along with the Change of Well and Secondary Well Requests located in the glass case at the entrance of the club house. The map and waiting lists will be updated monthly or when chang-es are made.
As of April 22, 13 members have submitted second wells requests.
Please remember each member that berths their boat in the harbor or winter stores on Peek-A-Boo Island will need to provide a copy of their Boat Insurance Declaration page, which will need to match the vessels hull identification numbers. Proof of Insurance will also need to be provided for a second boat that is moored/stored.
Minimum liability coverage is $300,000 per boat
A copy can be given to me, dropped in my GIYC mail box or given to the manager. Proof of Insurance will be retained in your membership file. Each year when your insurance renews a new copy will need to be provided. Another option is to add GIYC to your insurance policy, then the insurance company will e-mail proof automatically to the Club upon renewal. Fleet Captain Rick Bohl
