WELCOME TO WEEK 10 AT ASHTONFIELD PUBLIC SCHOOL - Have you seen our new school sign yet? Thanks to our wonderful hard working P&C for the new school sign; it’s connected and up and running! It is another way you can stay informed with what is happening in our school.
STUDENT SUCCESS– Congratulations to Shay (Yr 6) for her inclusion in the Hunter PSSA Diving Team. Shay will be competing next week at the NSW Diving Championships – all the very best Shay! Best of luck to Shay’s brother Ethan (a former Ashtonfield student) who is also competing at the state competition in the older division; a true family affair!

Families/caregivers and friends are welcome to stay for a picnic lunch – there will be a BBQ sausage sizzle lunch available - $3.00 for a sausage sizzle. Please do not include any real eggs, egg shells, egg cartons or chocolate on the hats.

CYBER SAFETY TIPS FOR THE HOLIDAYS -
Cyber Safety is always important! Children of the 21st Century will be using technology and the Internet for the rest of their lives. Parents are in a great position to teach them to be safe and responsible.
Following are some simple steps to keep your kids safe.
· Supervise your children’s internet use. Keep the home computer in an accessible place where you can keep an eye on what they are doing.
· Set a technology curfew. Turn off the wireless as many hand held devices are quite capable of surfing the net.
· Discourage children under 13 years of age to be registering with Facebook. Be your teenagers friend on Facebook so you can keep an eye on their activities. Monitor closely the chat programs associated with iPods.
· Remind your child that not everyone tells the truth online. Be careful.
· If they receive a message or email that is rude or threatening they should Stop, Block, Tell!
· Encourage your child to talk openly about their use of the internet. Encourage them to tell you if there are problems and encourage them to use the internet responsibly.
When used well, the internet and social media are wonderful tools. When not
used well, they can be very upsetting and damaging. Teaching children to use
this form of communication properly is an important part of parenting in the
21st Century.
Have a great week, Deb and Staff.

P&C News
Thank you to everyone who attended last week’s meeting. As we miss April's meeting due to school holidays, our next meeting is Tuesday, 16th May. To coincide with the Easter Hat parade, our Easter Egg raffle is now going to be drawn on Thursday, 6th April. 1st prize will be an Easter egg basket to the value of at least $30. Thank you to all those who have donated so far. Our Mother's Day Stall is going to be held on Wednesday,10th May. Deliveries have started to come in, with some really lovely gifts for purchase. For those new to the school, we ask for volunteers to help set up our stall and sell gifts to the students. We will need helpers from 9am - 12pm, even if you can only spare an hour, it would be appreciated. (It's also a good way to ensure you get what you want if you're a Mum). New Canteen Policy If your child requires change of more than $5 or more they must wait for their change when placing their order OR collect their lunch and change from the canteen at lunch time.
