No.18. 13th June 2017
Dear Parents,
With several tired and ailing students at present, we hope that you enjoyed the long weekend and were able to ‘recharge the batteries’. Last week the Year 1/2 level enjoyed the whole day incursion which was the culmination of this term’s inquiry unit. The students were able to make moveable cars with friction gears, they all rose to the challenge, following the instructions, testing and trialling their creations. Also a big thankyou to all the parents and grandparents that helped on the day. Thank you to the families who attended the First Eucharist Family Night, last Tuesday. A very special evening was enjoyed. It is the ‘ultimate sacrament’ and the students are making their final preparations leading up to the First Eucharist Sacramental Mass, this Sunday at 2pm. We ask that you remember the following students in your prayers as they receive the sacrament for the first time: Alex A, Aaylah C, Cody H, Lachlan H, Ruby McC, Aliza J, Alexander McC, Thomas P, Alyssa T, William E, Raya S, James B, Sienna C, Ava E, Morgan F, Anna G, Emily R, James T, Jordan V, Brandan Z, Mitchell R.
Please also remember Riley L, Kaylee S and their family in your prayers as they mourn the loss of their beloved Grandfather.
Congratulations to all the students that competed at Yarra Glen today in Cross Country, well done to all of you, such a fabulous effort.
Congratulations to Hailey D from PR and her family on the safe arrival of baby Liam.
Grade 5/6C have set up a fundraiser as part of an action plan for the community for a Cure for Brain
Cancer and they would like to make a difference to the future of the disease by raising money to add to the cause. Thank you to our prep classes who have raised today $36.50.
Next week the year 3-6 students are invited to audition for this year’s School Production. All students are expected to participate, as the production is a major component of our Arts and Student Wellbeing programs. I would like to remind students that auditions are
‘super friendly’ and that we can accommodate all levels of participation.
Congratulations to our Students of the Week last week: Prep B: Jasmin S/Kaide T Prep R: Emmerson B 1/2F: Darcy S C/Ben G 1/2H: Emilia P/Natasha G 1/2P: Jackson W 1/2R: Kiara S 3/4R: Jayden G 3/4F: Mitchell Mcl/Cooper S 3/4G: Patrick O’B 3/4C: Tilly P 5/6B: Stella B 5/6F: Mathew V 5/6P: Flynt C 5/6C: Tamara B/Caleb H-N
My prayers and best wishes for the coming week Angela Glennie Acting principal
May all I do today begin with you, O Lord. Plant dreams and hopes within my soul, revive my tired spirit: be with me today. May all I do today continue with your help, O Lord. Be at my side and walk with me: Be my support today. May all I do today reach far and wide, O Lord. My thoughts, my work, my life: make them blessings for your kingdom; let them go beyond today, O God Today is new unlike any other day, for God makes each day different. Today God's everyday grace falls on my soul like abundant seed, though I may hardly see it. Today is one of those days Jesus promised to be with me, a companion on my journey, And my life today, if I trust him, has consequences unseen. My life has a purpose. "I have a mission... "I am a link in a chain, a bond of connection between persons. God has not created me for naught... Therefore I will trust him. Whatever, wherever I am, I can never be thrown away. God does nothing in vain. "He knows what he is about."

We have children attending our school with severe (life threatening) peanut allergies. As always, we are concerned for the safety of our children, and ask everyone to avoid bringing any items that may contain peanuts to
school, as the smallest amount of peanut or proteins of peanuts on benches, etc., can affect an allergic child. Whilst I can appreciate
that there may be children who just love to have their peanut butter sandwiches or bars, I am sure that if it was your child with the
allergy, you would also appreciate people helping out in this way

ST MARY’S CAR PARK RULES
For the safety of all our children we ask that driver courtesy,
patience and the utmost care is practised at all times.
No standing in the driveway or
roundabout areas unless
‘ALL’ parking spaces are taken.
DO NOT LET YOUR CHILDREN OUT
OF YOUR CAR ON THE INSIDE
(drivers side)
LANE OF THE ROUNDABOUT
We need access for emergency and delivery vehicles and buses. Blocking the driveway also means that others are unable to access available parking spaces and causes a
dangerous back up of traffic in Clegg Road.
Pick up and drop off on the roundabout only at the designated
place. Please ensure that your child can do up their own seat belt if
you are using this area, as this will ensure an uninterrupted flow.
If we all cooperate the car park does work. We find that generally, the car park is virtually cleared by 3.30pm. So it may be beneficial to come a
little later, rather than earlier.
The speed limit at St Mary’s is 5km
at all times in the Car Park

Fundraiser for a Cure for Brain Cancer I, Dale Carroll, have decided to set up a fundraiser as part of an action plan for my community from the grade 5/6 unit of work last term for a Cure for Brain Cancer. I chose this action because my Kioshi (Karate teacher) passed away last year from brain cancer and I would like to make a difference to the future of the disease. Our fundraiser is to create paper planes and fly them as part of a competition to win a bag of lollies, and all people who participate will also get a sticker as a thank-you. We would love if you would like to be a part of this fundraiser, to bring a gold coin donation on your level's fundraising day to help us find a cure. This fundraiser is an optional event and children and families are not obliged to participate if they do not want to.
The days for each level's fundraiser are: Thursday 15th June (This week!) - for the 1/2's Monday 19th of June - for the 3/4's Thursday 22nd of June - for the 5/6's The preps fundraiser was today with a fantastic turn out. Thank-you to all of those families who participated today and we hope to see lots of you during the next two weeks. Dale, Caleb, Willow, Ollie, Lachie and the 5/6 team.

WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK
All Parents and Friends visiting St Marys must have a ‘Working With Children Check’. These are available FREE to volunteers on line.
Child Safety Code of Conduct
St Mary’s endeavours to create and maintain an environment where child safety is paramount and there is zero tolerance of any form of child abuse.
What is the purpose of a child safety code of conduct? A child safety code of conduct is intended to promote child safety in the school environment. A child safety code of conduct spells out professional boundaries and acceptable and unacceptable adult/child relationships and behaviour.
It should be unambiguous, widely disseminated and supported by supervision, professional development and training. A child safety code of conduct helps schools, staff and volunteers to raise behavioural issues. It provides a reference point for discussion when there may otherwise be confusion, uncertainty, or a lack of confidence about boundaries for appropriate behaviour with children. The code specifies behaviour unacceptable for a professional relationship between a teacher and a student. All parents, relatives and caregivers
attending St Mary’s Primary School to help within the classroom must hold a current Working with Children Check and must have read and signed the Code of Conduct. Please go to our website for more information.
CHILD SAFETY CODE OF CONDUCTS CAN BE COMPLETED AT THE OFFICE
