PROCEDURE FOR APPLYING
Before applying, the candidates are advised to go through the admission notice
published in the press and the instructions given therein carefully. Fill in the application
form in accordance with the instructions given in this prospectus and the admission
notice. Please ensure that no column is left blank. Incomplete applications will not be
considered and no correspondence will be entertained.
a) Application for admission to the course is required to be submitted on the
prescribed form enclosed with this prospectus.
b) The application, complete in all respects accompanied with all the relevant
documents should reach the office of the Registrar, PGIMER, Sector-12,
Chandigarh on or before the closing date. The applications received after the
closing date will not be considered and no correspondence will be entertained.
c) The fact that an application form has been dispatched on a certain date will not be
accepted as an excuse for the late submission of the application. The dispatch of
the application form does not ipso-facto make the receiver eligible for admission to
the selection test.
d) Applications, on forms other than those prescribed for the purpose, will not be
entertained. If any candidate gets an application form for the course different
from the one asked for he /she may submit his /her application on the same
before the closing date. The application will be treated as advance copy. The
application on the prescribed form will be obtained later.
e) The candidate who applies for more than one subject will be required to apply on separate application forms.
PROCEDURE FOR APPLICATION FORM
1. After opening the PGIMER website i.e. www.pgimer.edu.in, the candidate will
open the Application Form available on the website and fill up various columns.
2. After filling up all the columns, the candidate will generate Challan Form and
deposit the requisite fee in any Branch of State Bank of India anywhere in India.
After that the candidate fill the Challan Form No./I-collect No. in the Application
Form.
3. The candidate will download/print the filled Application form and paste a
photograph on the available space and place his/her signature on the Application
Form.
4. The candidate will attach all the relevant certificates/annexures and Challan
Form with the Application and sent the same to the Registrar, PGIMER, Sector-
12, Chandigarh.
5. One envelop shall contain only a single Application form.

INTRODUCTION
The Government of India in the Ministry of Health set up a Committee known as the
“Health Survey and Planning Committee” on 12th June, 1959 to undertake the review of the
development that had taken place since the publication of the report of Heath Survey and
Development committee (Bhore Committee) in 1946 with a view to formulate further health
programmes for the country in the third and subsequent five year plan periods. The Committee
recommended the setting up of six Postgraduate Medical Institutions in the country one each at
Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Lucknow and Chandigarh to meet the increasing demand
of teachers for the rapidly expanded Medical Colleges, specialties services for Hospitals and need
of the Armed Forces.
The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and research, was conceived and
planned in 1960 to create in Chandigarh as Island of Excellence” providing physical and
intellectual milieu for young scientists working in multiple disciplines of medicines to advance
the frontiers of knowledge, to render human service to sick and suffering, to train Medical and
Para Medical Manpower. The Institute was established in 1962 by the erstwhile state of Punjab.
It was declared as an institute of National importance by an Act of Parliament (Act 51 of 1966)
with effect from April 1, 1967.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE INSTITUTE
Following are the aims and objectives of the institute:-
a) To develop patterns of teaching in undergraduate and postgraduate medical Education in all its branches, so as to demonstrate a high standard of medical education.
b) To bring together educational facilities of the highest order for the training of personnel in all important branches of health activity.
c) To attain self-sufficiency in Postgraduate Medical Education to meet the country's need for specialists and Medical Teachers.
ADMISSION TO THE COURSES
a) Admission to M . Sc. Pharmacology and M.Sc. Respiratory Care courses are being
conducted at the institute twice in a year i.e. January and July session every year. Master
of Audiology & Speech Language Pathology course conducted for January session only.
b) The admission to the courses imparted at the Institute is made on merit on all Indian bases by holding an entrance examination by the Institute, after issuing a country wide admission notice. The admission notice is published in leading English Newspapers of India usually during February/March for July session & Sept/Oct. for January session.

PROSPECTUS AND THE ADMISSION NOTICE PUBLISHED IN THE PRESS CAREFULLY.
DURATION OF THE COURSES
The duration of the courses is Two Academic Years.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS & METHOD OF SELECTION
1. M.Sc. (PHARMACOLOGY)
MBBS passed or its equivalent qualification from a University/Institute recognized by
the Medical Council of India or B.Sc (Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry taken together) or
B.V.Sc. or B. Pharma passed from a recognized University.
All candidates who fulfill the eligibility qualifications mentioned above shall appear
in a theory paper containing objective type of question. The duration of theory paper will be
one and half hours. The question paper will comprise 100 multiple choice questions relating
to fundamentals of Human Anatomy, Biochemistry, physiology, and Pharmacology.
Note:
The candidates applying for the above courses, the qualification possessed by them as
mentioned in the prospectus should have recognized by the Panjab University/UGC.
2. M.Sc. (RESPIRATORY CARE)
For General Candidate:
B.Sc. in Medical Laboratory Technology or B.Sc. in Nursing or B.Sc. Medical or Bachelor
of Physiotherapy from any University within India or equivalent degree from any other
recognized University/Institute with at least 55% marks.
For Sponsored Candidate:
B.Sc. in Medical Laboratory Technology or B.Sc. in Nursing or B.Sc. Medical or Bachelor
of Physiotherapy from any University within India or equivalent degree from any other
recognized University/Institute with at least 55% marks and at least 3 years experience in their
respective fields after obtaining qualification of B.Sc.
All candidates who fulfill the eligibility qualifications mentioned above shall appear
in a theory paper containing objective type of questions. The duration of theory paper will be
one hour. The question paper will comprise 50 multiple choice questions related to their
respective field.
3. MASTER OF AUDIOLOGY & SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY (MASLP)
For General Candidate:
B.Sc. (Audiology & Speech Therapy) or Bachelor of Audiology & Speech Language
Pathology from any recognized University/Institute with at least 50% marks and one year
internship after obtaining the qualification of B.Sc.
For Sponsored Candidate:
B.Sc. (Audiology & Speech Therapy) or Bachelor of Audiology & Speech Language
Pathology from any recognized University/Institute with at least 50% marks and at least 3
years experience in their respective field after obtaining qualification of B.Sc.

All candidates who fulfill the eligibility qualifications mentioned above shall appear
in a theory paper containing objective type of questions. The duration of theory paper will be
one hour. The question paper will comprise 50 multiple choice questions related to their
respective field.
Note:
i) Merit list of candidates based on their examination will be prepared separately for general
category candidates; and for those belonging to Schedule caste/Tribes. The General
category candidates who secure atleast 50% marks and who score 45% marks
candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes/Tribes/OBC wherever applicable) in the theory
examination will only qualify for admission. The candidates will be invited for interview
strictly in the order of merit based on their marks for the theory examination. The number
of candidates to be invited for interview will be three times, the total number of seats to be
filled in each category provided candidates fulfilling the cut off point mentioned above are
available. Candidates will then be interviewed by a Selection Committee appointed by the
Institute for the purpose which will select the candidates found suitable for
admission. The interview with the Selection Committee is mandatory and will not carry
any marks.
ii) There will be negative marking in the theory paper to the extent of 0.25 marks for
each wrong answer.
INTER-SE MERIT
If two or more candidates obtained equal marks in the entrance examination then inter-se-merit for selection to the course shall be determined on the basis of the following:
a) A candidate who has made more attempts in passing B.Sc. examination would rank
junior to the candidate who has made lesser attempts. b) If the attempts made in passing B.Sc. examinations are also the same then the candidate
who has obtained higher marks in the B.Sc. examination shall rank senior to a candidate who has obtained lower marks.
d) If the attempts made in passing said examination and the marks obtained in the
examination are also the same, then a candidate senior in age shall rank senior to a candidate who is junior in age.
NB: The admission to the course is initially made on probation for a period of three
months. At the end of 3 months, if the performance of the candidate is not found to be satisfactory, his/ her admission may be cancelled.
RESERVATION OF SEATS
Seats are reserved for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes/Tribes/OBC in accordance with the decision of the governing Body of the Institute. No emoluments /scholarship or any other financial assistance is provided by the Institute to the candidates admitted to M .Sc. courses The candidates selected for admission to M. Sc. courses are required to make their own arrangements for stay during the period of their studies.

LEAVE
During the period of studies, 30 days leave for a complete one year will be admissible in addition to weekly “Off Days”. No portion of leave can be carried over the next year.
THESIS/ DISSERTATIONS
The candidates are required to submit a Thesis / dissertation in accordance with the rules governing the course

The following fees etc. will be payable by each candidate.
a) Registration fee : Rs. 500/-
b) Tuition fee : Rs. 350/- per annum Note: The first installment of fee for 6 months is required to be paid at the time of admission. The balance is to be paid half yearly in advance.
c) Laboratory Fees : Rs. 900/- per annum
d) Security : Rs. 1000/- (Refundable) to be deposited by every
candidate for the recovery of any breakage loss of the Lab.

e) Amalgamated Fund : Rs. 60/- p.m. (payable half yearly)
The dues are required to be paid half yearly in advance.
1. Fee and other charges once paid shall not be refunded in any case including that a candidate leaving the institute before the completion of the term or not joining the course for any reason.
2. Security will not be refunded to those who do not join. The refund of the security must be
claimed within three years of the date of completion/discontinuation of the course, failing which the amount will be forfeited.
3. A fine of Rs. 5/- per day upto maximum 15 days will be charged for late payment of dues.
After 15 days the name of the candidate who does not pay the dues will be removed from
the roll. If such a candidate applies for readmission a sum of Rs. 500/- will be charged
as re-registration fee in additional to the fine. Such a candidate shall have to repeat the
days of his / her training for which he / she remains off the rolls.
JOINING TIME
Selected candidates must join their respective courses on the prescribed date, as indicated in their admission letter. The selection of those who fail to join by the specified date shall automatically stand cancelled.
Under exceptional circumstances, a candidate may be allowed to join late upto 31st July on the condition that he / she will have to make up the deficiency by working for the same number of days by which he / she joins late, after the date on which his / her period of training would have otherwise been completed but for his / her late joining. The admission will close on 31st July each year.

MEDICAL EXAMINATION
Medical fitness will be a pre-condition for registration for all candidates. The candidates will be medically examined by a Medical Board, constituted by the Institute for this purpose to determine their medical fitness.
GENERAL INFORMATION
1. The candidates will fill his application form available on the PGIMER website and will also
take out a print of Challan form (triplicate) and application form and deposit the
application fee in any State Bank of India branches all over the country. Those candidates
who have SBI account can also pay their fee through i-collect service of SBI. In that case the
INB reference No. will be generated and will have to be mentioned instead of Challan No. as
reflected in the application form. The Challan form is needed to be filled up in the name of
Director, PGIMER, Chandigarh (Examination) in the Power Jyoti Account No.
32211613319 and those candidates who have SBI account can also pay their fee through
i-collect service of SBI. They have retained a copy of Challan with them and another copy of
Challan deposited with the bank is attached with the application form sent to Registrar PGI,
Chandigarh.
2. Candidates must note that no other form of payment of application fees like Demand Draft,
Banker Cheque, Money Order, Postal order etc will be accepted under any circumstances
and without Challan copy will be rejected without any further correspondence with the
candidates.
3. The candidates are not permitted to bring the mobile phone/ pager / any other electronic
devices to the examination hall and the candidates with these items will not be permitted
to enter in the examination hall.
4. All the examination centers have been instructed to carry out the frisking of all the
candidates at the entry of the examination hall/ premises. Hence, the candidates shall co-
operate with the examination centers/ staff for such frisking.
5. The candidates are not allowed to bring any piece of paper or pen or pencil in the
examination hall. All the candidates will be provided with the pen / pencil at the
respective examination hall.
6. The complete application (i.e. Accompanied with all documents etc.) must reach the
Registrar, PGIMER, Chandigarh either by post or by personal delivery at the counter on or
before the closing date. Applications may please be sent preferably by registered post for
facility of candidates, the closing date receipt of applications has been mentioned on the
application form. The counter for receipt of applications to be delivered personally will
close at 4.00 p.m. on the closing date and no application will be received thereafter. The
Institute will not be responsible if application is delivered to any other quarters. The fact
that the application registration No. has been issued to the candidates, does not mean that
the application is complete in all respects and has been accepted by the Institute.
7. Application received after the closing date is not considered. The Institute takes no
responsibility for any delay in the receipt or loss of application/ prospectus in transit.
8. Incomplete applications are not entertained and no correspondence will made in this
respect. All particulars in the application form must be written carefully and legibly. All
claims made in the application must be supported with documentary proof.
9. The candidate who applies for more than one subject will be required to apply on separate
application form.

10. Candidates who have obtained MBBS degree from the Medical College/Institute/
University which are not recognized by the Medical Council of India are not eligible to
apply.
11. Candidates should sign all the documents forming enclosures to the application and also
put date.
12. Candidate should enclose with his/her application three stamped, self addressed
envelopes of size 23 x 10 cms with a postage stamp of Rs. 10/- on each envelope. These
envelops will be used for sending Roll number, selection letter, etc. Therefore, the address
on the envelope should be legible, neat and complete, preferably typed.
13. No request for a change of the subject / course or the category applied for entertained
after the submission of the application to the Institute.
14. The decision of the Director of the Institute in the matter of selection of candidates
for the various courses shall be final.
15 The candidates invited for the selection may have to stay at Chandigarh for 2-3 days. No
TA/DA is admissible to them for the purpose.
16. Any attempts on the part of candidate to influence directly or indirectly will be treated as
disqualification.
17. Selected candidates shall have to pay the fees etc. on the same day failing which his /her
selection will be treated as cancelled and the seat will be offered to the next on the waiting
list in the order of merit.
18. Private practice in any form during the course is prohibited.
19. The Institute is well equipped and staffed by faculty recruited from all over the country.
20. There is a well stocked and upto date library and large number of professional
journals and periodicals are subscribed to for use by the faculty and the residents/
students.
21. The period of training is strictly full time and ordinarily continuous at the Institute.
22. The candidates selected for the course shall have to furnish the migration certificate
from the university / Institute from which they passed their last examination t the time of
their joining along with all other certificates in original in support of their qualification,
experience etc.
23. If the closing date fixed for the receipt of applications by the Institute is declared as a
holiday or half holiday by the Chandigarh Administration, then the Immediate next
working day shall be the closing date for receipt of application.
24. The rules are subject to change in accordance with the decision of the Institute from time to
time.
25. If any entrance examination / Interview are fixed for any course there will not be change
in the date and the examination / Interview will be held as per schedule even if the day is
declared as a holiday or half holiday by the Chandigarh administration.
26. If any candidate does not receive the Admit Card, he/she can also download the
same from the PGIMER website.
27. In case of any dispute the same shall be settled with the jurisdiction of Chandigarh.
28. The Ragging is banned in the Institute. Ragging is cognizable offence. Strict action
against the offenders shall be taken. Any one indulging in ragging will be punished
appropriately, including expulsion from the Institute and / or imprisonment upto 3 years
and/or fine upto Rs. 2500/-.

PROCEDURE TO BE FOLLOWED FOR THE ENTRANCE EXAMINATION
1. All the candidates are required to bring their Admit Card.
2. No candidates will be allowed to take the examination without producing the Admit Card.
3. They are required to be seated on their respective seats 15 minutes before the commencement of examination.
4. Videography/Still Photography will be done during the examination, whereas Biometric finger print capturing will be done during examination, at the time of counseling and at the time of joining the course.
5. No material/paper including the envelope of the Admit Card is allowed in the examination hall.
6. Mobiles, Pagers or Calculators are strictly prohibited in the examination hall. Please arrange to keep them outside.
7. All the candidates are advised not to copy any question on a piece of paper / hand etc. if found copying down the questions from the question paper, the candidates will be booked under the UNFAIR MEANS CASE and his examination will be cancelled.
8. If any candidate is found guilty of any breach of the rules mentioned in the prospectus or guilty of using UNFAIR MEANS, he/she will be liable to be punished by the competent authority.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PHOTOGRAPHS
1. One recent clear passport size coloured photograph with light background is required
to be pasted on the application from at the space provided. Polaroid photographs are
NOT acceptable.
2. Photograph MUST be snapped on or after 1sr September, 2014.
3. Photograph must be taken with name of candidate (as in application) and date of
taking photograph as per the example given below:

4. Photograph should not have cap, or goggles etc. Spectacles are allowed.
5. Photograph should be pasted (NOT stapled) on application Form Use good quality
adhesive to paste the photograph.
6. The photograph on the application Form should be unattested.
7. Application not complying with these instructions or with unclear photograph will be rejected.
8. Keep a few identical photographs in reserve for use at the time of Entrance
Examination/ Admission.
9. Any deviation or discrepancy between actual appearance at the time of
examination and facial appearance in the photograph pasted on the application
will make the candidate liable for rejection.
IMOPORTANT NOTICE
In case any candidate is found to have supplied false information or certificate etc. or is
found to have concealed or withheld some information in his /her application form, he /she
shall be debarred from admission. Any other action that may be considered appropriate by
the director of the Institute may also be taken against him/her which may include criminal
prosecution also
