4:00pm Sing Sunday
¶ We Gather for Worship
Welcome and Announcements
Opening Sentence
We meet in the presence of God who knows our needs, hears our cries,
feels our pain, and heals our wounds.
Opening Prayer
Loving God, we have come to worship you.
Help us to pray to you in faith, to sing your praise with gratitude,
and to listen to your word with eagerness; through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Hymn
Majesty, worship his majesty,
unto Jesus be glory, honour and praise. Majesty, kingdom authority
flows from his throne unto his own, his anthem raise.
So exalt, lift up on high the name of Jesus;
magnify, come glorify Christ Jesus the King. Majesty, worship his majesty,
Jesus who died, now glorified, King of all kings.
Words & Music: Jack W Hayford (b 1934) © Rocksmith Music (The Source – 346)

¶ We Say Sorry to God
Prayer of Penitence
We come to God as one from whom no secrets are hidden,
to ask for his forgiveness and peace.
God of mercy,
we acknowledge that we are all sinners. We turn from the wrong that we have thought and said and done, and are mindful of all that we have failed to do.
For the sake of Jesus, who died for us, forgive us for all that is past,
and help us to live each day in the light of Christ our Lord.
Amen.
May God our Father forgive us our sins and bring us to the eternal joy of his kingdom,
where dust and ashes have no dominion. Amen.
The Collect
Almighty and everlasting God, by whose Spirit the whole body of the Church
is governed and sanctified: hear our prayer which we offer for all your faithful people,
that in their vocation and ministry they may serve you in holiness and truth
to the glory of your name; through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ,
who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Hymn
1. Thine be the glory, risen, conquering Son;
endless is the victory, thou o'er death hast won; angels in bright raiment rolled the stone away,
kept the folded grave-clothes where thy body lay.
Thine be the glory, risen conquering Son, Endless is the vict'ry, thou o'er death hast won.
2. Lo, Jesus meets us, risen from the tomb; lovingly he greets us, scatters fear and gloom;
let the church with gladness, hymns of triumph sing; for her Lord now liveth, death hath lost its sting:
3. No more we doubt thee, glorious Prince of life;
life is naught without thee: aid us in our strife; make us more than conquerors through thy deathless love;
bring us safe through Jordan to thy home above:
Words: A toi la gloire, O Ressuscité, Edmond Budry (1854-1932), translated by Richard Birch Hoyle (1875-1939)
Music: Maccabaeus, George Frederick Handel (1685-1759) (Ancient & Modern – 218)
¶ We Hear the Word of God
Reading – Psalm 77.1-2,11-20
I cry aloud to God; I cry aloud to God and he will hear me. In the day of my trouble I have sought the Lord;
by night my hand is stretched out and does not tire; my soul refuses comfort. I will remember the works of the Lord and call to mind your wonders of old time. I will meditate on all your works and ponder your mighty deeds.
Your way, O God, is holy; who is so great a god as our God? You are the God who worked wonders and declared your power among the peoples.
With a mighty arm you redeemed your people, the children of Jacob and Joseph. The waters saw you, O God; the waters saw you and were afraid;
the depths also were troubled.
6
The clouds poured out water; the skies thundered; your arrows flashed on every side;
The voice of your thunder was in the whirlwind; your lightnings lit up the ground; the earth trembled and shook.
Your way was in the sea, and your paths in the great waters, but your footsteps were not known.
You led your people like sheep by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.
Hymn
1. Before the throne of God above
I have a strong, a perfect plea, a great High Priest whose name is Love,
who ever lives and pleads for me. My name is graven on his hands,
my name is written on his heart; I know that while in heav’n he stands no tongue can bid me thence depart,
no tongue can bid me thence depart.
2. When Satan tempts me to despair,
and tells me of the guilt within, upward I look and see him there,
who made an end to all my sin. Because the sinless Saviour died,
my sinful soul is counted free; for God, the Just, is satisfied to look on him and pardon me,
to look on him and pardon me.
3. Behold him there! the risen Lamb,
my perfect, spotless Righteousness; the great unchangeable I AM, the King of glory and of grace!
One with himself I cannot die, my soul is purchased with his blood;
my life is hid with Christ on high, with Christ, my Saviour and my God,
with Christ, my Saviour and my God.

¶ We Affirm our Faith We say together in faith
Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God almighty, who was, and is, and is to come.
We believe in God the Father, who created all things:
for by his will they were created and have their being.
We believe in God the Son, who was slain:
for with his blood, he purchased us for God, from every tribe and language,
from every people and nation.
We believe in God the Holy Spirit:
the Spirit and the Bride say,‘Come!’
Even so come, Lord Jesus! Amen. cf Revelation 4.8,11; 5.9; 22.17,20
Hymn – My God loves me
1. My God loves me.
His love will never end. He rests within my heart
for my God loves me.
2. His gentle hand he stretches over me.
Though storm-clouds threaten the day he will set me free.
3. He comes to me
in sharing bread and wine. He brings me life that will reach
past the end of time.
4. My God loves me, his faithful love endures.
And I will live like a child held in love secure.
5. The joys of love as offerings now we bring.
The pains of love will be lost in the praise we sing.
Words: v 1 anonymous, vv 2-5 Sandra Joan Billington Music: Plaisir d’amour, Johann Martini (1741-1816)

¶ We Pray to God
Prayers of Intercession
Blessed are you, eternal God,
to be praised and glorified for ever.
Hear us as we pray for your holy catholic Church:
make us all one, that the world may believe.
Grant that every member of the Church may truly and humbly serve you: that the life of Christ may be revealed in us.
Strengthen all who minister in Christ’s name: give them courage to proclaim your Gospel.
Inspire and lead those who hold authority in the nations of the world:
guide them in the ways of justice and peace.
Make us alive to the needs of our community:
help us to share each other’s joys and burdens.
Look with kindness on our homes and families: grant that your love may grow in our hearts.
Deepen our compassion for all who suffer from sickness, grief or trouble: in your presence may they find their strength.
We remember those who have died:
Father, into your hands we commend them.
We praise you for all your saints who have entered your eternal glory: bring us all to share in your heavenly kingdom.
Hymn
1. For the beauty of the earth,
for the beauty of the skies, for the love which from our birth
over and around us lies,
Lord of all, to thee we raise
this our sacrifice of praise.
9
2. For the beauty of each hour
of the day and of the night, hill and vale, and tree and flower,
sun and moon, and stars of light:
3. For the joy of human love, brother, sister, parent, child,
friends on earth, and friends above, pleasures pure and undefiled:
4. For each perfect gift of thine,
to our race so freely given, graces human and divine,
flowers of earth and buds of heaven:
5. For thy church which evermore lifteth holy hands above,
offering up on every shore this pure sacrifice of love,
Words: Folliott Sandford Pierpoint (1835-1917)
Music: England’s Lane, English melody adapted by Geoffrey Turton Shaw (1879-1943) (Ancient & Modern – 537)
The Lord’s Prayer
We praise the Father,
and pray in the words of Christ himself.
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
Hymn
1. Jesus is Lord! Creation’s voice proclaims it,
for by his power each tree and flower was planned and made. Jesus is Lord! The universe declares it,
sun, moon and stars in heaven cry: Jesus is Lord!
Jesus is Lord! Jesus is Lord!
praise him with Alleluias, for Jesus is Lord!
10
2. Jesus is Lord! Yet from his throne eternal
in flesh he came to die in pain on Calvary’s tree. Jesus is Lord! From him all life proceeding,
yet gave his life a ransom, thus setting us free:
3. Jesus is Lord! O’er sin the mighty conqueror, from death he rose; and all his foes shall own his name.
Jesus is Lord! God sends his Holy Spirit to show by works of power that Jesus is Lord:

¶ The Conclusion Concluding Prayer
Cast your burden upon the Lord:
he will sustain you.
Create in us clean hearts,O God; renew a right spirit within us.
Cast us not away from your presence;
take not your Holy Spirit from us.
Give us the joy of your saving help; sustain us with your life-giving Spirit.
Blessed be the Lord day by day:
the God of our salvation, who bears our burdens.
The Blessing
May God keep us in all our days.
May Christ shield us in all our ways. May the Spirit bring us healing and peace.
May God the Holy Trinity drive all darkness from us and pour upon us blessing and light.
Amen.

Hymn
1. Forth in thy Name, O Lord, I go,
my daily labour to pursue; thee, only thee, resolved to know
in all I think or speak or do.
2. The task thy wisdom hath assigned, O let me cheerfully fulfil;
in all my works thy presence find, and prove thy good and perfect will.
3. Thee may I set at my right hand,
whose eyes mine inmost substance see, and labour on at thy command,
and offer all my works to thee.
4. Give me to bear thy easy yoke, and every moment watch and pray,
and still to things eternal look, and hasten to thy glorious day;
5. For thee delightfully employ
whate'er thy bounteous grace hath given; and run my course with even joy,
and closely walk with thee to heaven.
Words: Charles Wesley (1707-1788) Music: Song 34 (Angels’ Song), melody & bass by Orlando Gibbons (1583-1625)

Faculty Applications
Oakham PCC have applied for
permissions for two projects to be undertaken in the autumn.
A. A development of the memorial garden on the south side of the
church: Following a generous offer from Oakham in Bloom, it is proposed
to replant the south side garden as a memorial space. We are grateful for all who, up to now, have kept this area
looking so beautiful, particularly, particularly Graham Scothern for his
recent work, and we are sure that this new scheme will only enhance this
area of the churchyard. B. Proposal for the replacement of the
boiler: A new boiler is proposed to be installed in the upstairs parish office.
Public notification was displayed on Wednesday. Parishioners have 28 days
from then to lodge any objections. More detailed plans are available for
inspection in the parish office or on the website.

Unfortunately, Langham Lunches at
the Noel Arms will be discontinued with immediate effect, but the monthly

Bereavement Support
Group
For the last 3 years we have been running a Bereavement Support group
in the Parish Hall. It has been for people of all faiths or none, for those
recently bereaved or those who are still aching after many years. However,
particularly since Hildred left, it has become clear that we are not meeting people’s needs, so the meetings on the
first Thursday of the month in the Parish Hall will now stop. We are
planning to re-launch the service in the autumn, in a different format. To help
provide something useful, we have drawn up a short questionnaire to ask
those who are bereaved what would help.
If you have lost a loved one – recently or further back, please fill in one of
the Questionnaires which will be at the back of Oakham Church, or from
the website. Sian Cheverton.
