You have just purchased a PEUGEOT scooter. Thankyou for the confidence that you have shown in ourcompany.This guide describes how to control, use and perform basicmaintenance on your new PEUGEOT scooter. As with allhigh technology machinery, you will find it easier to controland you will obtain the best results from your SCOOTER ifyou use it and maintain it with care and attention. Yourdealer will advise and inform you and use his experience tostrictly respect the maintenance plan this is essential tokeep your scooter in perfect working condition. Your PEU-GEOT dealer knows all your scooter�s special features. Hehas PEUGEOT original parts and special tools to performstandard maintenance on your scooter under optimum con-ditions.
Safety recommendationsThe safety of a scooter depends on the care taken by itsdriver.Excessive speed is a decisive factor in many accidents.Respect speed limits and never go faster than is safeunder the road conditions. Take care not to skid on roadmarking lines. Always do a general check before usingyour scooter to make sure that it can be used safely.Traffic rules require that the driver and his passenger weara helmet. It is also recommended that you wear gloves, aneye protection and bright and visible clothes to increasesafety. A new Scooter driver should become familiar withhis scooter before starting to drive in traffic. A scooterdriver must signal his presence to other users by:
- Avoiding driving in places in which he is not visible toother vehicles
- Driving carefully- Taking special care at intersections, car park entrances
and exits, and slip roads.Your scooter is designed for town use on the road only.Optional luggage and briefcase carriers are designed totransport lightweight objects. Make sure that the weight isdistributed evenly and that loads are securely fastened :Maximum Loads : 3 kgYour scooter is designed to satisfy legal requirements,please do not make any modifications to it particularly tothe exhaust.Use only petrol, oil and lubricants tested and recommendedby PEUGEOT .
Maintenance recommendationIn order to keep your scooter in a safe and reliable ridingcondition, do not modify it and only use gennine PEUGEOTparts for maintenance and repair. Use of other spare partsmay detrimentel to your vehicleIf your scooter is involved in a crash, have the main partschecked carefully, for example all parts making up theframe,suspension and steering system. This inspectionwill help to restore essential safety conditions.It is recommended that you make a general check afterstoring your scooter for an extended period of time .To avoid injury, always make sure that the engine isswitched off and the scooter is stable on its stand ona flat surface before performing any maintenanceoperations.Take your scooter to a Peugeot dealer to do any repairwork, checks, tune-ups, maintenance or to obtainrecommendations for use.The bodywork is made of plastic parts coated with specialpaints making it easy to keep it looking as good as new.Cleaning consists of washing dirty parts with soapy wateror with a mild detergent, rinsing frequently with clean waterand drying with a chamois leather.In general do not use high pressure cleaners or solventssuch as petrol or highly alkaline detergents.You can always call a Peugeot dealer if in doubt. He willadvise you about how to use maintenance products or torepair scratched or grazed parts.
Prolonged immobilisationIn the event of prolonged immobilisation of the vehicle,(longer than 1 month), it necessary by precaution to :
- Remove the battery and to store it in a horizontalposition in a dry and cool place, recharge it (see page 6)before and after storage if necessaryStart the engine after storage :If the vehicle has been stored for more than 1 month,drain the fuel tank and fill with new fuel.Once the engine has started, gradually accelerate whilebraking until the engine warms up (the time to reach thetemperature depends on the time the vehicle has beenstored). The engine will provide optimum performanceonly after running a certain time, depending on theexternal temperature.

Protection of the environment
General points- A worn spark plug, an incorrectly fixed
interference suppresser, a clogged up air filter, apoorly adjusted carburettor are all potentialsources of problems which may lead to a signifi-cant reduction in the life span of the catalyticconverter and the exhaust system.
- In the event of dismantling, check the tight-ness on the cylinder end after reassembly (it isessential to replace the seal).
- Any changes made to engine specifications(ignition, carburation, timing, ...) is likely to lead tothe rapid destruction of the exhaust system.
Fuel / Lubricant- Use only unleaded fuel- Avoid to run out of fuel while driving- Use only the recommended lubricants- Don´t use any additives for fuel or lubricants
Ignition- In case of misfiring or loss of power, slow
down and cut off the engine as described.Contact your local dealer when the problemspersists
Cutting off the engine- Switch off ignition only when the engine
runs at idle speed
Starting the engine- In case of problems when starting the
engine, contact your dealer to have it checked
Using your vehicle- Avoid driving or stationing your vehicle on
flammable underground (e.g. dry leaves)

Oil warning light*

- The warning light goes on when the ignition is turned on, and shallremain lit as long as the engine is not running.

Either the power of the electronic box is faulty.- Do not start the engine to avoid damaging it and go to a

Note
- If the warning light goes on or flashes when riding, you muststop the vehicle and turn off the ignition. Always make sure thatthe traffic conditions allow you to stop safely and always respectthe road traffic regulations.- In normal riding conditions, if the warning light goes on and offonce in a while, this means that there is not enough oil (thewarning light will flash more often as the oil level goes down). Topup with oil as soon as possible before the system gets out oforder and before the engine breaks.

SaddleOpening
- Insert the ignition key in the lock at the back of theleft side, rotate it a quarter of a turn towards theright and lift the saddle.The seat storage compartment gives access to :

- Oil levelCheck the oil level regularly.For proper engine lubrication you must use :
- Semi-synthetic oil for 2-stroke engines withseparate lubrication
Important
Top up with a recommended oil.Use of other types of oil may cause an exces-sive build up of carbon in the engine and inthe exhaust system, resulting in loss of powerand damage to the engine.Do not overfill your tank. Oil must not reachthe neck of the filling orifice. Make sure thatthe filler cap is well closed after filling.If your oil tank has been completely emptied,this may cause damage to the engine whenyou start it; please take your vehicle to a PEU-GEOT dealer so that he can carry out theessential operation of purging the lubricationcircuit. Transport the vehicle to a PEUGEOTdealer to carry out the vital restarting of thelubrication circuit.
- PetrolFor best operation of your engine, use non-leaded petrol 98 or 95.Do not allow water or any grit or particles to enterthe tank when filling.Do not use an oil and petrol fuel mixture.
Warning
Petrol is an extremely inflammable substancethat can explode under some conditions. Fillup with petrol in a well ventilated location withthe engine switched off. Do not smoke, donot allow flames or sparks close to the scooteror close to the place in which the petrol isstored.Do not overfill your tank. Petrol must not reachthe neck of the filling orifice. Make sure thatthe filler cap is well closed after filling.Petrol is a dangerous substance and can befatal if swallowed.Avoid repeated and prolonged contact withthe skin and do not inhale the vapors. Keepout of reach of children. Do not cause vomitingif petrol is swallowed. Call a doctor immediately.
Checking the coolantlevel*
(Frequency : see maintenance booklet)
DangerNever remove the plug fromthe expansion vessel whenthe engine is hot. Thepressurised coolant mightbe projected and could causeserious burns.It is essential that the usedcoolant be deposited at arecycling point.
Warning
Do not use the vehicle :- If the coolant level is lower than the
minimum level- If there is a leak- In the event of high consumption of
coolantIn all cases, you will cause irreversibledamage to your vehicle.Contact a Peugeot dealer for maintenanceand repair.
Checking the level of coolant is carried out withthe engine cold and at a standstill.- To top up :
- Put the vehicle onto its central stand onlevel ground
- Remove the protection flap- Loosen the plug on the expansion
vessel- The coolant level must always be above
the minimum level- If necessary, top up with a similar coolant,
making sure that there is always a summer andwinter protection
- Retighten the plug of the expansionvessel
- Replace the protection cover

BatteryMaintenance free batteryA maintenance free battery must never beopened. Never add coolant or electrolyte
Traditional batteryBattery electrolyteCheck and keep the level between the «upper» (maxi-mum) and «lower» (minimum) marks.Use demineralized water or special lead batterywater only for your battery; tap water will reduce itslife.When you replace the battery, make sure that the airvent hose is properly in place and is not blocked orpinched. Please call a PEUGEOT dealer if you haveexcessive electrolyte loss.Connections to battery wires :
- Connect the red wire to the battery's (+)terminal,
- Connect the green wire to the battery's (-)terminal.
- Charging the batteryThe level of battery liquid must always bechecked before charging.The charge must be carried out with a suitable batterycharger with a maximum output of 0.4 to 1 ampere; we recommend that this operation is done by adealer.Note : you can damage the battery if thebattery charger that you use is too powerful.
Danger
The battery contains sulphuric acid. Avoidcontact with the skin, the eyes or clothing.1st reaction :
- External : rinse with water and see adoctor immediately.
- Internal : do not drink or inducevomiting. Call a doctor immediately or thenearest antipoison centre.
- Eyes : rinse with water and see adoctor immediately.The battery releases explosive gases. Do notbring sparks, flames or cigarettes close. Whencharging or using in a closed location, makesure that the ventilation is good. Protect eyeswhen working close to a battery.Always keep batteries out of children�sreach.A used battery must always be taken to acertified recycling point.

Lighting and signallingLighting and signalling equipment in goodworking condition is essential for safety.Check the various lamps from time totime before starting and whenusing your scooter to make surethat they are working as they should.

See your dealer or distributorimmediately if one of the lamps is notworking properly.
- Changing the bulbs
FRONT :- Take the 6 screws out of the
front panel- Pivot the fittings over- Change the bulb
To adjust the headlight : adjust thescrew to vary the vertical angle.
Indicators :- Remove the screw and the
lens
AT THE BACK :- Remove the two screws and
the lens- Change the bulb Indicators :- Remove the screw and the

Starting the engine
For safety reasons :- Put the scooter on its central stand
Keep the throttle closedTo start the engine :
- Grip the brake lever
- Kick start- Turn the ignition key : ON
position- Press the kickstart sharply and
continually
- Electric starter *- Turn the ignition key : ON
position- Raise the stand- Press the starter button- Release the button when the
engine starts
Precautions
Never run the engine in a closedroom. Exhaust gases contain carbonmonoxide and toxic gases.
Stopping the engine andparking
With the engine running at idingspeed
- Put the ignition key to- Put the vehicle on its stand- Turn the key to the position
(locking the steering) in order to avoidrisk of theft
- Remove the key to prevent risksof theft- Parking on the stand
- Avoid driving or parking oneasily inflammable materials (eg : dryleaves, �)The stand is fitted with a lever to parkthe scooter easily.
- Move to the left side of the scoo-ter
- Hold the scooter by its handlebarand the grab handle at the back of thesaddle
- Push the stand lever with yourright foot while pulling the scooterbackwards with the handlebars and thesaddle's grab handle
CautionMake sure that the vehicle is stableon its stand so that it cannot fall overand possibly cause any body woundor any damage to the scooter.

Driving
- Running inRunning in has an essential influence on correctoperation, power and long life of your engine.During the first 500 kilometers, never run yourvehicle at maximum speed, particularly whencold or going down hill.- DrivingWith the engine running on its stand :
- Keep the left brake lever tightened- Do not open the throttle- Push bike off centre stand- Get onto your scooter- Release the brake lever- Accelerate to start (turn the throttle
gradually)- Turn the throttle in the opposite direction to
decelerate.
Caution
You must stop the rear wheel spinning beforeyou push bike off centre stand (apply rear brakelever)If the rear wheel is turning you could losecontrol of the scooter when it touches theground.
- Do not accelerate roughly (quicklyopening and closing the throttle)
- Do not leave your scooter unattendedwith the engine running.
Maintenance andadjustments
(Frequency : see maintenance booklet)- Spark plug resistiveIt is advisable to respect strictly the assemblyrecommendations given by PEUGEOT.Fitting of a spark plug other than thatrecommended or failure to tighten itproperly will lead to the destruction of theengine and the electronics.- Go to a Peugeot Motocycles dealer for alloperations on the vehicle.
- FuseA fuse protects the electrical equipment againstshort circuits or circuit overloads.It is located in a fuse holder at the side of the battery.It melts and breaks the circuit if there is a fault in theinstallation.
Precaution
The fuse only burns out if there is a fault in theelectrical circuit.Please call a PEUGEOT dealer.Only use standard fuses.Replace a burnt out fuse by a fuse of the samecapacity.Replacing a fuse with an inappropriate fusecan cause irreversible damage to theequipment and can even cause safety faults,placing the user at risk.

Warning
Use of a single brake reducesbraking efficiency.Excessive force applied to a singlebrake may cause thecorresponding wheel to lock,causing you to lose control of thevehicle and come off.When driving down a steep slope,drop back the throttle and use bothbrakes in order to reduce yourspeed, enabling you to maintaincontrol of the vehicle. Avoidconstantly applying the brakes asexcessive heating will reducebraking efficiency and may causean accident.

Tyre inflation pressure
Check the tyre pressure frequentlyand adjust it if necessary.Observe the following specifications :

Incorrect tyre pressure will causeabnormal wear of the tyre tread and willreduce riding safety.It is both dangerous and illegal to drivewith worn tyres. Worn tyres have anadverse effect on steering, braking,traction and road holding ability andmay cause an accident.
- WheelsThis scooter is fitted with tubeless tyres. Tubelessis marked on the tyres' sivewall and on the rims toshow that they are specially designed for use withoutan inner tube.Appropriate valves are fitted in rims.When replacing them, use tyres and rims markedtubeless only.
- Entrust tyre repairs and replacements toa PEUGEOT dealer or a specialist.
Danger- Inner tubes should not befitted on Tubeless tyres norshould a Tubeless tyre befitted onto a standard wheelrim as the risk of the tyrebursting or coming off therim may cause an accident.- For an optimum result, Peu-geot Motocyclesrecommends you to respectthe original assembly tire.
Anti-theft device *
- Removal of anti-theft device- Put the key into the lock, turn it, andpull the protective flap in order to removethe anti-theft device.
- Locking the anti-theftdevice(the key must be in the lock).- Unclip part from its housing,slide it along the cable, wrap the cablearound a fixed point (metal post, 2-wheeler parking stand, ....)- Turn the key and insert part intopart ,- Turn the key, remove it and make surethat the protection flap is correctlyin position.
- Storing the anti-theft device- Put the key into the lock, turn it andseparate parts and .- Slide part along the cable and storeit away in the housing of part .- Push the whole unit until it is positionedin the rear part of the scooter.- Withdraw the key and make sure thatthe protection flap is closedcorrectly.
Advice
- When the scooter is parked, avoidleaving the anti-theft device in contactwith the ground.- When cleaning the scooter, avoidpointing the water hose into the lock.- Maintenance of the tube : use a plasticsiliconed cleaning product.
Caution
Do not forget to store the anti-theftdevice carefully in its housing beforeusing the vehicle.Placing the theft protection devicearound the rear wheel may damagethe number plate.

Transponder*
The ignition keys are equippedwith a TRANSPONDER which isan electronic component builtinto the key�s plastic part.
This anti-theft system allows therider to start his scooter thanks toan «ANTENNA» which surroundsthe key and recognises thetransponder ELECTRONICALLY.
All the elements required forstarting the engine are conditionedby the recognition of anELECTRONIC CODE generated bythe (red) key, called the MASTERKEY, which means the scooter cannot be used simply by changing theignition key.
A LED warning light blinks on theinstrument panel to show that thesystem is actuated (dissuasiveeffect).To save the battery, this LED stopsblinking after 48 hours, although thesystem is still operational.
ReminderWe advise you not to use theMaster Key (key red) foreveryday use but to keep itin a safe place with thenumber of the keys.Only the transponder can beused to reprogram your theftprotection system : if it islost, the whole system willhave to be replaced and isnot covered under theguarantee.The master key will beuseful for the dealer wishingto operate on the system.
