Principal: Mr. David Moorthy Vice-‐Principal: Mr. Tim Bonnar Administrative Asst: Mrs. Sonya Ouellette Counsellor: Mr. Mark Greenshields November 15, 2016 Dear Parkside Families, It has been a busy last month at Parkside with a lot of wonderful experiences and learning. It is always exciting to walk the halls and visit the classrooms at Parkside because students are engaged in learning and excited to be here. Reading groups are discussing stories, kids are playing math games, students are learning about how to be good friends, and so many other positive things are happening as well. One of the highlights this past week was our Remembrance Day ceremony. As we took a few moments together to remember the sacrifice of our soldiers, it was obvious that students of all ages understood the importance of this day. The Parkside choir sang beautifully about the value of peace and some of our Parkside leadership students provided thoughtful contributions. Staffing Update Many of you have noticed that our office team looks a little different right now. Unfortunately, both Mr. Moorthy and Mrs. Ouellette have been off for the last few weeks on medical leaves. It was a difficult decision for both of them to take time off, but it was important to do so. We wish each of them good health and good spirits. I know they miss the Parkside community and we definitely miss them here! In the meantime, we have a temporary secretary, whose name is Ms. Astoria. Thank you for welcoming her to Parkside. Questions or concerns that would normally go to Mr. Moorthy should go to me (Mr. Bonnar) instead. My door is open and you are welcome to stop in or to phone me at the school or to email me ([email protected]).
Dress for the Weather Now that we are well into November, the weather is often rainy. As much as possible, we have “Outside Recess” at Parkside, because students benefit from the fresh air and exercise. We do go out for recess even if it is raining, though we stay inside during heavy rains. Students should come to school prepared for the wet weather with coats and boots! While at school, students should stay out of the puddles. We recommend that parents send an extra set of clothes to school with younger children (K – 3) in case their clothes get wet or muddy. Food for Thought
A nutritious breakfast and lunch are an important part of the day for all kids. A healthy body makes it easier for young minds to learn. At Parkside, we are generously supported by a number of community groups whose goal is to help provide nutritious food to students who need it. We would like to thank the following organizations for their support:
• Breakfast for Learning & the President’s Choice Children’s Charity • Firefighters – Snack program • Sources Food Bank • Starfish Backpacks – organized by the Aldergrove Rotary with support from numerous
corporate and community sponsors (http://aldergrovestarfish.ca/thankyou/)
Please feel free to ask for more information about any of these programs!
