Dhanmondi Plaza – Recommendations
On-Street parking should be banned and provision of off-street parking.
(Policies on Parking Regulation)
Total 15 parking bays should be provided in the underground.
Deterrent parking charge (50 taka for 10 minutes) for on-street parking
(Policies on Managing Parking Demand)
Underground parking provision - parking charge (30 taka for 1 hour) to bear
the maintenance cost and to discourage long term parking.

18
Illegal on-street parking reduces the effective carriageway width.
(33’-0” reduces to 29’-0” : Field Survey)
Total capacity of the underground parking provision is 28 vehicles. (Field Survey)
Highest combined demand will be 31 vehicles/15 minutes. (Parking Accumulation)
Combinedly 95% of the capacity will be; Presently used 55% .(Parking Index)
Spillover likely to occur in peak period.
(11.00 AM – 12.30 PM and 3.00 PM – 4.00 PM : Parking Spillover)
On-street parking - dominated by the short term parking characteristics
Off-street parking - dominated by the longer parking duration.
(Vehicle-Hours of Occupation)
Momtaz Plaza – Recommendations
19
On-Street Parking :
- Strictly prohibited through law enforcing agencies. (Policies on Enforcement of Regulations)
- Alternate option : shifted and encouraged towards off-street parking through
regulatory sign and low parking charge (10 taka/hour).
- Variation in parking charge : peak hour (30 taka/hour); off-peak (10 taka/hour);
to manage the parking demand with respect to the available capacity.
(Policies on Managing Parking Demand)
Parking area should be improved in terms of ventilation and maintenance by
the local authority with the revenue money collected in the form of parking
charge. (Policies on Operation and Maintenance of Parking Facilities)
