First five weeks
We began by discussing our own knowledge and interest in the arts.
What we likedour Previous experienceArts venues we’d been to Arts organisations we were aware ofWhat we thought of Manchester’s Art Scene
A mentor is someone who will listen....
Mentoring is about helping us reach Our full
potential
A mentor might coach, guide, advise,
inform, and motivate. A Mentor should not
judge me.
Mentoring should
encourage action, steps
towards reaching our
goals….
..A Mentor can share their
experience with us…
In the following weeks we explored ‘Mentoring’ and what that meant to us. We also learnt Mentoring Skills.
workshop six
Its OK guys its not your
fault...
We looked at examples of graffiti art and how that could be incorporated into the Map of Manchester.
ok everyone lets work in sketchbooks
After learning about mentoring and discussing Art opportunities we would like to investigate…. the fun part began
We discussed our final art piece – a huge graffiti map of Manchester City that would inform others about arts opportunities about town
please try and Use all the media to work with
No say sherlock
I want to include some of my poetry into my work
before this project I had no idea about all
the dance schools and organisations in
Manchester
we came back again........
We blew up the map of Manchester and selected a section to work with.
The Map was used as a tool to identify the areas of Manchester where we needed to do further research into arts opportunities.
the weeks continued...
We worked individually on our own sections of the map of Manchester, identifying and symbolising our own interests in the arts in Manchester and adding our individual styles.
We practiced on paper before moving onto canvas. This gave us the opportunity to put all the sections of the map together to see what worked and what didn’t work so well.
I understand
what mentoring is
and how it works
I feel more confident
Bronze Arts Award
so how's the work for the arts award looking for
you....
i have been working on dance and Done loads of research
into dance opportunities
We could take a Bronze Art Award and gain advice throughout the project.
Approaching the final weeks.
We had prepared our sections of the map on card and we had made stencils by cutting out the roads. We pinned The Stencils onto each canvas..
Now we were ready to Spray paint!
do you think we have enough drawing pins
"i'm loving this and
don't want it to end"
Winston Carrington joined us to film the Spraying of the Canvas and the final part of our project
So what is Mentoring All about?
Mentoring is about encouraging someone to explore their options and take the most appropriate action to get to where there want to be. A good mentor will motivate, advise, teach, coach, inform and share experiences…..
its graffiti time yeah!
i'll put mine just here
Hurry up peter, My Canvas is waiting
for me
Now for my final
Masterpiece.
Woops! i nearly stood
on Raza's work.
to get to where you want to be in the arts you've got to work your
butt off and take on every challenge as it comes
its getting a bit misty in
here
finally we finished all the
sraying
after finally spraying the canvases, we left to recovER from the blue spray ! .......
Working together makes it easier to come up with
solutions, it's better than working things out on your
own
After the canvas dried the group painted their designs onto each canvas……..
i listen more to other people and
their ideas
I have been looking into
performance art and musical
theatre
i have learnt about other
peoples interests
There are more art opportunities in Manchester than I thought – our
canvas will let other people know about all the art stuff…..
i am not just a pretty face, i can
help other people.
When are we all going to the theatre?
I've started getting more
creative
This is my section of the canvas
painting on canvas can be so
relaxing and absorbing
My interest is creative writing, mainly poetry. I’ve been
researching Arts Organisations in Manchester.
I’ve been reading my poetry at the Greenroom.
When we had finished painting our designs onto canvas we then removed the stencilled roads. All the Canvases were put together.
from looking back to the beginning of the project, i
can't believe how far we've all come....
I now know where the
Corner House is
Before this project, I did not
know Central Library had a
theatre.
I went to the Urbis for
the First Time
We all visited the Science and Industry Museum
Contact Theatre has plenty of
things going on
I’ve made contact
with Sunshine Studios
And the Bronze
Art Award has been wicked
we were now ready to attach information on all the Arts Venues and Organisations we had researched, we hope this will let others know about the variety of Art Opportunities available in Manchester – We will be exhibiting our work at arts venues and schools in Greater manchester
