The book of Samuel recounts for us today the anointing of David as king of Israel. It was the elders of Israel who declared David king that day, but it was God who called David to shepherd Israel. Thus mandated by the citizens of his kingdom and by his God, David took his place in a long line of kings.
The apostle Paul speaks to us of kingship as well, but on a much higher plane: the kingship of Jesus our Lord. As great as David was, he and all earthly monarchs who came before and after him in their kingdoms around the world are minor kings by comparison to the true King. And lastly, we hear the story of that true King in perhaps his weakest moment: near death, hanging on a cross, taunted by a common criminal and by the world at large. Peace, Fr. Frank

LITTLE BELL RINGERS NEEDED FOR COLOR BELL CHOIR
Do you have 3-7 year-old children who enjoy mak-ing noise? Here is a great opportunity to make the best of their talents this Christmas Season! The mu-sic ministry would like to invite 3-7 year-old chil-dren to join our "little bell ringers" ensemble. The
requirement is simple: they need to be able to read letters A-G and color codes. There will be three rehearsals before performing at our annual Christmas Concert. The rehearsals dates are Novem-ber 13, 20 and December 4 at 12:30pm. If you have any ques-tions, please contact Stacie at [email protected] or 201-398-0235.

There will be two different designs: one of the Nativity Scene in the Church and the other will be a spiritual theme of the Trinity. The price will be the same as last year: $10 per box of 10 cards. Please do your part to help support St. Gabriel’s Knights of Columbus, as well as, spreading the beauty of St. Gabriel’s Church.
BOX TOPS FOR ST. MICHAEL’S
St. Gabriel's continues to collect Box Tops for St. Michael's School in Newark. The Box Top program is one of the nation’s largest school fundraising loyalty programs and has been helping schools succeed since 1996. With over 250 participating prod-ucts, it’s an easy way for schools to earn cash for the things they need. Each Box Tops coupon is worth 10¢ and they add up fast! The coupons are on products we buy at our local supermar-kets everyday. St. Michael's will be able to use the Box Tops cash to buy whatever they need most, from books to supplies and other school programs. So please look for these coupons on your groceries and start to clip. There is a collection box display in the lobby of the church. As always, thank you for your support of St. Michael's.
Dear Parishioners, On November 2, the generous donation of canned meats and fish, tuna salad packs, energy bars, dried fruit, and other nutritious and convenient snacks were delivered to the Unilever warehouse in Cresskill for shipment to our deployed troops. The items from our church filled an SUV to the roof and front passenger seat. When it arrived at Unilever, the response was "Wow! This is some great stuff from St. Gabe's". The cost of shipping was borne by Unile-ver, so 100% of our efforts go to the troops. We learned a few days later that our donations filled eight boxes and were sent to Green Beret troops in Syria and Afghanistan. The exact locations are top secret as are many of the places where our donations are sent. Some items are shared with our Kurdish allies who fight with our troops in Syria and Iraq. Past shipments were also sent to air bases and ships at sea. The feedback is that our soldiers, sailors, Marines, airmen are very appreciative of these gifts and letters. Our efforts bolster their morale, especially as we enter the Christmas Season. As thank you emails start coming in, they will be posted on the bulle-tin board in the church lobby. Gratefully, John Grisoni

YOUTH GROUP NEWS
As we begin this new year, members of the St. Gabriel Youth Group would like to invite all high school aged parishioners to check out the Youth Group! Our mission is to grow closer to the Lord and one another through prayer, service, discussion, and plenty of fun. Know
that you are welcomed and encouraged to join us at our Sunday night meetings throughout the year. “Dear young people, the happiness that you search for has a name and a face: Jesus of Nazareth.”
-Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI
CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD
Most Sundays until June we offer the children of ages 4-6 (including first graders) the oppor-tunity to have the readings of the Mass ex-plained on their level during the 10:00 AM Mass. They are dismissed during Mass to the cry room with either Sr. Esther or Mary Lee Costello who will teach the lesson. You are
encouraged to be faithful in coming to Mass regularly so that your children have a continuous progression of instruction. The children return to their parents during the Preparation of the Gifts.
OPT OUT OF THE CHRISTMAS CRAZINESS Catholics eagerly anticipate Christmas as a holy day, but the practical aspects of holiday preparation can rob us of the peace we want to enjoy. Try these suggestions for managing the Christmas Craziness: Plan perfection. Write down your idea of a perfect holiday. List everything: food, events, gifts. Is it reasonable? If so, your plan can proceed. If not, seeing it in black and white can help you pare down your expectations. Shrink your shopping list. Focus on giving to loved ones and opt out of gifting at work or to casual friends. Cook ahead. Don’t spend the holidays cooking and baking when you would rather be with those you love. Prepare simple dishes that you can prepare ahead and freeze. Decorate slowly. Advent is a quiet time of anticipation. Wait to put up Christmas decorations during Christmas Week or deco-rate a little at a time to build anticipation. Push Back. Feeling pressured to have a particular kind of holiday? Decide what is best for you and stick to it.
