Our Mission Prayer Heavenly Father, grant that we may be more closely united to you in charity. By the help of Sacramental graces, may we come
to imitate more fully the virtues of Jesus Christ and be conformed to His image. Draw us by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit into a greater zeal for the mission of making you
known. Give us the courage to offer generously of ourselves in time, talent and treasure. That, as we consecrate ourselves as stewards of all your material and spiritual gifts, we may share
them generously with others for your greater glory. Amen.

Pastor’s Corner At the end of last weekend’s Pastor’s Corner, I began showing the devastation perpetrated in the world in two realms, sexual abuse and abortion, when God and his commands are abandoned. Many more problems can be shown stemming from “progressivism”. These call for profound prayers of reparation. What I propose is not to delve and dwell on these too much
here, or the other multitude of problems either directly or indirectly related. Rather, it is better in these times to concentrate on the remedy, as given to us in the Gospel. This remedy is given to us as individuals, primarily and foremost, but also communally for the healing necessary to bring souls to heaven. The words from Leviticus sum up nicely what is needed. “The LORD said to Moses: Speak to the whole Israelite community and tell them: Be holy, for I, the LORD your God, am holy.” There is a repetition of this by Jesus in the Gospel – a fulfillment of what the words from Leviticus pronounced. Again, Jesus begins with “You have heard that it was said …” The fulfilment Jesus demands is not simply a limit on retribution, as the precepts of murder put forward. Jesus demands that we love those who persecute us – even to the point of loving those who have abandoned the law of God seen in the atrocities promoted by “progressivism”. This kind of love is demanded of us to become holy as our Heavenly Father is holy. Our desire, with respect for every person, good or not so good, should be for their salvation. Prayer should not devolve into a continual plea for the salvation of every soul we know, however good that might be. The proposal is rather to pray in such a way that we have a deeper relationship with the God who makes us Holy as He is Holy. With my prayers, Fr. Kent

St. Mary’s Cross Café Ministry has Significant Impact
Since October, 2018, St. Mary’s Cross Café has been providing free refreshments, support and resources for the approximately 30 families living in poverty who are served
each week by Mildred’s Food Pantry and also for anyone who walks in from the community. The Café provides a place for parishioners and patrons of Mildred’s Food Pantry (also a
St. Mary’s Ministry) to informally draw near and encounter one another so as to grow
relationships for accompaniment and to provide a place where resources can easily be accessed.
Over the past year, (March, 2019-February, 2020), the Cross Café had 740 visits,
logged 722 volunteer hours (all but one volunteer is a parishioner), held two parishioner
Poverty trainings, and trained 15 parishioners to serve individuals living in poverty. Feedback from café patrons demonstrates that the Café is both providing a space to
grow relationships and is providing helpful resources for people living in poverty:
Among visitors who completed feedback forms:
48% visited to get information to help them solve a problem they were experiencing; 24% visited to take some time to get to know other people
96% said the friendliness of volunteers was Excellent or Above Average 93% said the helpfulness of information provided at the Café was Excellent or Above
Average
93% said the helpfulness of emotional support provided by Café volunteers was Excellent or Above Average
Thank you to Cross Café volunteers for your beautiful witness to
Christ through this ministry!
St. Mary’s Cross Café is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-11am in St. Anthony’s Hall. The Café serves both community members and food pantry patrons looking for a place to sit and connect with others.
