Diary of our excursion to admire the
migration of the birds of prey
through the Beigua Park
Class 2C Arenzano (Italy) 21 March 2013
During the whole spring and the early
autumn, Beigua Park is "visited" by
thousands of Birds of Prey; the sight is
simply great. The diurnal birds of prey
and the storks are the animals which
mainly strike the collective imagination,
but the protected area is also
interested by a considerable flow of
passerines. In these periods, dozens of
bird watchers go to “Valle del Lerone”
to admire the migration of birds of
prey.
Our excursion began on a hill
chosen by bird watchers as location
to observe the migration of Short-
toed Eagles, in the locality Agueta,
on the heights of Arenzano.
In that place there are
the best conditions to
observe the movements
of many species of birds,
such as birds of prey,
common birds. etc.
…but are they
arriving?
Mr. Baghino, our guide,
began to show us the spots
of passage of birds of prey
and he completed his lesson
on the migratory routes (he
started his lesson on short-
toed eagles at the school)
We started scanning the
sky, waiting for you could
spot the birds…..
……and finally we began to sight the first
short-toed eagles
We were lucky because it was a
beautiful day, warm and windless
so we could see a ten short-
toed eagles and two honey
buzzards.
Short-toe eagle It was not like going to
the zoo, because we
have been able to
observe the animals in
their habitat, in fact, the
birds appeared at
irregular intervals.

The thing that struck me
particularly was seeing pass
short-toed eagles at a
height so high and see so
many of them.
Carlotta
I noted that to
carry out this
activity you need
to have so much
patience and
perseverance.

This structure is situated in Località Vaccà
and offers multimedia systems giving the
visitors the opportunity to watch
documentaries and interact with the
extraordinary world of birds.
… Then we went to the..
Ornithological and
Environmental Education
Center
This plastic model shows the protect area where you can
observe the passage of birds of prey
We concluded our tour
by looking at some
nests, patterns of birds
that live in the Park and
a collection of pens.
