IBM Cloud: Think it. Build it. Tap into it.
SoftLayer infrastructure provides the ideal platform to build scalable, available, reliable OpenStack clouds
Acquire hardware you need, when you need it
Scale in hours, not day or weeks Have an immediate global presence Low latency, high-speed connectivity
using SoftLayer’s dedicated private fibernetwork
Choose the model that works for youbring your own OpenStack or use ours, you manage or we manage
Why deploy OpenStack on SoftLayer?
Powerful Customizable On-demandEntry-level single proc servers to GPU-powered workhorses
Fully customize RAM, SSDs, HDDs, and network uplinks
bare metal server can be provisioned in 2–4 hours

SoftLayer integrates three distinct and redundant gigabit network architectures—public, private, and data center-to-data center management—into a network-within-a-network topology.
Any device at any time can have any of three types of connections: Public network: Connection to public Internet Private network: unmetered bandwidth usage between servers and data centers Management network: Out-of-band management through an unlimited VPN connection

My Experience building a cluster and scaling globally – multiple regions with single, shared Keystone and Horizon services
Region 1 - San Jose (2x) Virtual Machines = 3 minutes (3x) Physical Machines = 90 minutes Copying and pasting from OpenStack Documentation = 4 hours Troubleshooting Neutron issue (no DHCP to guests) = 3 more hours
Region 2 – Singapore (2x) Virtual Machines = 3 minutes (1x) Physical Machines = 90 minutes Copying and pasting from OpenStack Documentation = 2 hours Troubleshooting Neutron issue (no outside access) = 6 more hours
Total elapsed time: ~ 9 hours (ignoring neutron debug)
