SUMMARYAdjacent to the San Gabriel River and close to the Whittier Narrows Park, the landscape
character of the station borrows from the informal and lush materials of the river’s edge
and basin. This creates a strong visual relationship from the station to the recreational
network along the San Gabriel River. It is supported by secure walkways for pedestrians
and bicyclists alike. The station is also situated across Peck Road to creating a unique
“gateway” between the cities of South El Monte and Whittier.

PECK ROAD
STATION CONCEPTSCreate Community Identity• The Peck Road station is situated across Peck Road with access from both sides using
the station itself as a “gateway” between the cities of South El Monte and Whittier.
• The landscape character for the station design is unique to its relationship with the San
Gabriel River and Whittier Narrows. The station proposes to integrate and enhance
landscape features found in the river and park.
Integrate Station to Integrate Existing Land Uses and Future Opportunities• The station integrates itself into a unique location and takes advantage of the right of
way along the SR 60.
• It maximizes its staging areas for park-n-ride facilities by balancing the parking load
between the two sites.
• Neighborhood services are proposed to benefi t the station’s users.
• The station could provide for future modifi cation to the park-n-ride facility for direct
access to the SR 60.
Create Accessible “Multi-Modal” Stations• (1) Primary pedestrian fl ow comes from the station, park-n-ride facilities, bus stops and
drop off . Full access is provided on both sides of the station.
• (2) The bicyclist has enhanced access to the San Gabriel River recreational system and
to the local road network. Bicycle rack and storage are provided on both ends of the
platform adjacent to the station entry.
• (3) Bus stops are provided on both sides of the station directly adjacent to the station
entry. Drop-off zones for shuttle busses are provided for service to Rio Hondo College.
• (4) Private Vehicle Drop-off areas are provided on both sides of the station with kiss-n-
ride zones within line of sight of station entry as well.
Create a Safe and Secure Environment• The station design incorporates enhanced pedestrian crossings and intersections at
Peck Road and Durfee Avenue.
• A future modifi cation to the pedestrian bridge may connect directly from the park-n-
ride facility to the station’s mezzanine level above the freeway’s on and off ramps.
• Decorative fencing may be provided at grade level to prevent access across the
freeway on and off ramps encouraging use at the pedestrian crossing.
• The station and plaza to be well lit and programmed to encourage public safety at
night.
Integrate Sustainable Measures• Permeable paving is designed in the surface lots to maximize its relationship to the
natural character of the river.
• The station design to incorporate best practices of sustainable design.
Amenitize the Station• Reinforce the connectivity with Whittier Narrows and the San Gabriel River by
providing a unique link between mass transit and a recreational network.
• A high volume park-n-ride facility is provided with potential development
opportunities for commuter oriented services. FINAL URBAN DESIGN CONCEPT REPORT

WASHINGTON BLVD. LRT ALTERNATIVEWHITTIER BOULEVARD
SUMMARYCreates a southern terminus to the “greenway” of Garfi eld Avenue and presents the
opportunity for a signature gateway to the Whittier Boulevard Commercial Corridor. As
part of the “greenway” concept, the station and guideway columns should accommodate
for planting materials to break down the scale of the structure and create a softer feel
along Garfi eld Avenue. Highly connected with existing bus lines and surrounding
neighborhoods, the station itself is uniquely integrated into its neighborhood context.
WHAT WE HEARD:
Montebello City Comments, Individual City MeetingsHighlights• Provide adequate plaza space for the station
• Enhance intersection of Whittier Boulevard and Garfi eld Avenue
• Create an entry point into the City of Montebello
Stakeholder Preference Survey and Station Map Group DiscussionsHighlights and Summary• Land Use: liked mixed-use development with commercial and residential
patterns
• Station Integration: dislike for the at-grade, open space station design
• Streetscape & Safety: liked streetscapes with ample pedestrian access
• Connectivity: liked tree-lined pathways and access for pedestrians and bicycles
• Parking: disliked at-grade parking
• Good location for bus connectivity and relationship to neighborhood and commercial
