OPC Foundation Liaison
with TR-50
OPC Foundation Liaison with TR-50
• OPC Unified Architecture for the Internet Of Things_0.00.01
• We've recently executed a cooperation agreement with TIA. • We have reviewed and are very interested in your recent publication TIA-4940-005,
and quickly recognize the value that this potentially brings to the industrial automation space.
• OPC Foundation and the OPC Foundation members are very interested in contributing to the development of standards with respect to TR – 50. I understand initial liaison opportunity with the OPC Foundation would not provide voting rights, but ultimately by participating and attending consecutive meetings, we would be able to elevate our status to being a core member with full voting rights.

OPC Foundation : Who we are!
• The OPC Foundation, dedicated to interoperability in automation and enterprise computing, is an independent, non-profit organization that comprises leading manufacturers and solution providers in factory and process automation as well as enterprise solutions. The OPC Foundation's charter is to develop worldwide industry standards for data transfer offering multivendor interoperability and seamless connectivity of devices, systems, networks and enterprise computing solutions. Development of specifications is undertaken by volunteers from over 450 members worldwide.
3
Members of OPC
• Members include: technology providers, which develop OPC-compliant products; end-user companies, which are consumers of OPC technology in the form of OPC-compliant products; and non-voting members, which are universities, government, research institutions, and non-profit organizations.
4
Markets
• The key markets for OPC technology include: – Industrial Automation – Building Automation – Embedded Devices– Energy Management (Smart Grid)– Manufacturing Enterprise Management– Cloud-based Computing– M2M– And many more ….

OPC UA Products Embedded• PLC
– PLC integrated OPC UA servers available– PLC vendors released embedded
UA servers
• IEC 61131-3 vendors
– IEC 61131-3 system vendors tested embedded UA servers
– Integration into runtime IEC 61131-3 runtime systems
• Embedded HMI
– Windows CE based HMI vendors implementing OPC UA clients
• OPC Unified Architecture on a chip !
– Opportunities to expand into other domains, like security and building automation
• Communication Gateway– Wireless sensor gateways with OPC UA server– Field bus gateways with OPC UA server

OPC UA Products SCADA Level
• Device OPC Server– Existing OPC Server migration to OPC
UA– Many vendors including Iconics,
Yokogawa,, MatrikonOPC and Siemens provide UA interfaces for their PC based OPC device server suites
• SCADA– OPC UA server and client– SCADA systems have integrated UA– JAVA based SCADA systems adopt UA
• LINUX / UNIX– LINUX and UNIX based automation
systems are integrating OPC UA– Replaces external OPC interfaces on
Windows based systems
