ACHA Examining Committee:
I enthusiastically support Omri [Ken] Webb’s application for ACHA membership. I have knownKen for many years since his admission into the Graduate Program in Architecture + Health at Clemson. While at Clemson he was an exceptional student known for design excellence and an intense work ethic. Since his graduation from our program, I have monitored his growth and development into an accomplished healthcare architect at several of the leading healthcare design firms in the nation including Kaplan McLaughlin Diaz, RTKL and now as a Vice President at HKS.
Ken’s work in healthcare architecture at Clemson was always of the highest quality. He distinguished himself as one of the best students in his class because of the caliber of his work and the rigorous process of design inquiry he employed here. I have received numerous reports on his work from his superiors at several of the firms he has worked for since graduation, and without exception, they have indicated his professional work continues to be of the same high caliber. In addition to practice, Ken was involved with the AIA Academy of Architecture for Health on the Charrette Task Force for several years. I believe his experience and knowledgecombined with a vibrant enthusiasm for this area of professional practice will not only enable him to continue developing into a distinguished healthcare architect, but he has also nurturedthe development of future generations through his work in the Academy.
I am convinced that Ken will continue to have an increasingly significant impact in the field of health facilities planning and design. I am certain that Ken Webb is worthy of ACHA board certification, and am absolutely confident about his ability to continue to develop as a national leader in the specialized field of healthcare architecture. I look forward to Ken becoming amember and colleague in the American College of Healthcare Architects.
Sincerely,
David Allison, FAIA, ACHAProfessor/DirectorGraduate Studies in Architecture + Health

American College of Healthcare Architects Att: ACHA Application Review Board P.O. Box 14548 Lenexa, KS 66285
Re: Application for Certification – O. Kenneth Webb, IV
To whom it may concern:
I have known Kenneth Webb over the course of 6 years now. During two of those years he worked under my direction. I know Ken to be a fine architect with a deep knowledge of healthcare facilities and their operational requirements. Ken is equally adept at planning healthcare facilities and providing architectural basic services for those projects.
During his time with Perkins+Will he worked on several complex projects that included intensive care nursing units, imaging suites with multiple modalities and a large medical office building. He demonstrated the knowledge to lead the user groups through the key issues and build consensus.
Ken’s background includes a Masters in Architecture from Clemson University with a specialty in healthcare as well as a decade in the field working for several leading healthcare design firms. He is also an active participant in our professional network including the AIA Academy on Architecture for Health.
I give my highest recommendation to the college to allow Ken Webb to complete his certification for membership to the American College of Architects.
Sincerely,
James A. Godfrey, AIA, ACHA. LEED AP Principal Perkins+Will

The fourth hospital in the Palmetto Health System, Parkridge Hospital is concentrated solely on serving the unique needs of the Irmo community. Utilizing many of the system-based support services located off-site, the Phase I, 224,000-square-foot, 76-bed hospital is focused on patient care areas. By minimizing walking distances and maximizing efficiencies, these areas are planned to increase the time caregivers spend with patients to create a guest-centered care experience. A totally electronic hospital, the comprehensive healthcare facility is planned for growth in 50 to 100-bed increments up to 300 beds.
Stemming from the desire to be a special place that is unique and to be remembered, the hospital’s design represents the Palmetto tree and the system brand. As the Palmetto tree is indicative of strength, fortitude and nurture, these ideas inspire the form, function and material applications used to create the five-star facility.
Role and ResponsibilityAs a Vice President and Senior Designer and Lead Medical Planner Kenneth was responsible for the team leadership in the development of the design and planning of the Parkridge Hospital Campus. He wass responsible for planning team leadership and design oversight throughout masterplanning and Design phases. He served as Lead Medical planner during user group meetings, as well as, being intimately involved in the development of design presentations to senior leadership.

The University of Alberta is one of the leading medical centers in Canada and widely considered to be the leading Cardiovascular Program in the country. In 2000, the system decided to construct a major addition to house and showcase the service line, as well as, provide enough bed capacity to decompress the inpatient hospital and consolidate all levels of cardiac patients.
The solution was a large, 10-story addition to the University campus that would house an entry lobby for patients and students, an education center, outpatient services down low and state-of-the-art inpatient procedure units on the upper levels.
The building conformed to a tight site, and provided a new image to the front of an aging facility, by extending to the campus edge and curving back towards the University, establishing a stong icon that is now the face of the program.
Role and ResponsibilityAs an Associate and Lead Medical Planner, Kenneth was responsible for the planning of multiple major departments, including patient floors, administrative and diagnostic imaging floors. Lead for managing and conducting user group and consultant coordination meetings from master planning through design development.

An expanding market in Saudi Arabia is the need for specialty medical center to meet the needs of a fast-growing, more demanding population. The OSH is a specialty Orthopeadic Center of Exellence housing both inpatient and outpatient services in a comprehensive envrionment offering medical services, education and related support. The site was very tight and generated a high-rise development solution due to a high water table, the building is zoned to support OP services low, ancillary in the middle and inpatient services high in the tower to afford views of the Red Sea. Designed to be more “hotel” than hospital, this facility seeks high-end clients and a spa-type atomsphere.
Role and ResponsibilityAs a Principal, designer and Lead Medical Planer, Kenneth was responsible for the team leadership in the conceptual and schematic development of the design and planning for the Orthopedic Hospital. Lead responsible for parti and schematic presentations to senior leadership, as well as, the overall leader of the team and guardian of the parti development and design intent.

The Campus Revitalization Project for Ascension Health System’s St. Agnes Hospital is a $176 million project encompassing a new 192,000 SF bed tower for the campus, an existing bed tower renovation, and the renovation and expansion of an existing Cancer Center and Central Plant. A new 800-car parking garage is included in the project, as well as, numerous site improvements that will prepare the campus for the eventual phased replacement of the existing hospital. All of the additions and renovations are being planned so that the hospital can remain fully operational throughout the project.
Beyond the building additions and renovations, the design will revitalize the campus by creating new entries, adding walkways, and converting much of the space currently taken up by parking lots into buildings and small, park-like areas. The new patient tower will tie into existing bed tower and provide a new main entry and lobby for the entire hospital. It will house 120 private patient rooms as well as new operating rooms, new same-day surgery rooms, and a new outpatient surgery waiting area.
The renovation of all patient floors in the existing tower will convert semi-private rooms to private rooms to achieve the hospital’s goal of transitioning to an all-private-room model.
A comprehensive cancer center addition and renovation will allow a multi-disciplinary team to administer care in clinical treatment areas which have been integrated into the surrounding exterior gardens. The 18,000 SF addition to the Cancer Center will provide a new Infusion area and accessible cancer garden and a new lobby with reception, registration/scheduling, and waiting spaces. Clinical and administrative areas will be revitalized in the 17,000 SF renovation of the center.

Lancaster General Hospital, a tertiary facility located in central Pennsylvania, required a series of internal renovations and shell build-outs to bring the facility up to par with their competitors and to provide a physical plan that supported their operational objectives.
Over a period of five years, the team master planned a series of projects to help Lancaster support a more patient-focused model. This included developing more point-of-care outpatient centers, such as the Breast Center, and redeveloping their patient units to support state-of-the-art technology and family support services.
The main public and semi-public zones of the hospital were refashioned with family alcoves, consultation centers and staff support zones.
Role and ResponsibilityAs a lead designer and Medical Planer, Kenneth was responsible for the team leadership in the development of the design and planning of multiple projects for Lancaster General Hospital. Responsible for user group leadership during SD and DD, as well as, the lead of design presentations to senior leadership.

The West Expansion project for Caromont Health is located at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia, North Carolina. The project includes the development of a new combination Outpatient and Women’s drop-off, entry and lobby, Women’s birthing Center, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Chemotherapy Unit, Resource Center, Gift Shop, Public Education Center, Surgical Waiting and On-call suites. A partially underground, three level parking structure is designed below the patient care areas. The facility is connected to the existing hospital via a three-level structure that contains both public and service connections. The design is the analytical result of regional market indicators, recognition of staff stress and importance of recruitment and retention levels, and patient care environmental research. This analysis indicated a need for a family focused, developmental care model. The facility design features a 52-bed universal room obstetrical suite combined with an innovative operational model Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The NICU features all private patient rooms with overnight family accommodations, sky lit staff work areas, and state-of-the-art technology to control noise and lighting levels based on current developmental research.
Role and ResponsibilityAs an Associate and Medical Planner, Kenneth was responsible for the planning of multiple major departments, including LDRP patient floors, administrative and diagnostic imaging floors. A responsible team member in conducting user group and consultant coordination meetings from master planning through design development.
