Understanding Costs...
★ Costs quoted are zero VAT due to partnership working with Argyll and
Bute Council
★ Costs quoted include;
○ Equipment & installation
○ Safety surface & installation
★ Costs quoted are not necessarily ‘best price’ as this will not be known
until we enter the full procurement process with Argyll and Bute
procurement team and playpark suppliers.
★ Costs quoted are based on a quote from Wicksteed, which was used in our
grant applications. These are just a guide, not the final design.
★ Different suppliers have provided cost estimates and designs in
various levels of detail, which have been on display in Atlantis since 2012.
★ When selecting our final design, we score each design on 90% play value
and 10% cost.
Phase 1 - 5 to 15
year olds design
ideas…..
£100k+
How about a sperm whale as a big centre piece?
Oban was a base in the 1930’s for flying boats (yes we know this is a
Spitfire!) Maybe we could have a plane for imaginative play?
£55k excluding surfacing
single zip £22k
Pirate Ship + Tower £67k
Rope Swing £12k
An idea of how play equipment could fit together...
£12k for 3m high
There are many options for this type of climbing tower… but the higher you
go, the higher the price as you need different surface finish for fall heights
of 3m+
£25k - £36k for 5m high
£11,000
This swing take up a large footprint but is very popular with children...
These unusual swings rotate too...
£14,500
£8k
You can’t have enough swings! This set includes a multi user basket
which most kids can use safely.
£7k
See the next slide for an all abilities swing seat which can easily be
included in this swing set...
An all abilities swing seat,
tested by 7 year old Alex
in Rouken Glen, East
Renfrewshire
£4-9k
Here’s an example of a wide slide...
Here’s another example of a slide, with a grass
mound...
This design has the wheelchair accessible wide
slide right in the middle of the action. No mound
means more space for other play equipment.
A lighthouse could be an alternative to a boat, however
to prevent ‘mischief’ it’s best to avoid enclosed spaces.
£21k
Here’s a high rope bridge...
What about something to climb on?
Formed rock is easier to install than
‘real’ rock.
£26k
Single or multi use buddy board
develops balance and surf skills.
£3.5k
Plus we’ve budgeted £8k for bins, fences, signage, seating
Could you use this ‘lean’ seat for
outdoor boot camp exercises?
Do we want a shelter?
It’s our park, let’s
look after it and keep
it litter free!
Phase 2 Multi-
sensory garden
ideas….
Some mirror panels hidden in the
multi-sensory garden?
The panels can be any colour.
Robust musical equipment for the
multi sensory garden.
No plastic and if beaters go missing,
you can always use your hands or
whatever else you want to use!
Natural hand carved
seating and
characters...
What about a story teller chair for visiting
nurseries, pre-schools and schools?
Plus we’ve budgeted £8.5k for a wheelchair
accessible path for the multi sensory garden.
This is our community playpark and we need your
feedback...
What’s important to you?
Have we missed anything?
