Visiting teams weren’t too friendly totheir hosts at the Oakville Hornets’ annu-al girls’ house league hockey tournamentlast weekend.

The Blue Lightning tykes were the lonelocal team to win a championship at thetournament, completing a 5-0 showing atthe competition with a 4-1 win over theBurlington Pirates in the final.

Leah MacSween scored four goals inthe final to pace the Blue Lightning. Alsocontributing to the championship withstrong two-way play were Brooke Belzar,Samantha Ecclestone, Olivia Hledin,Olivia Hunt, Reichen Kirchmair, KylieLandau, Rachael Mariott, Tatum Martino,Patyon Masse, Katie Panizza, Danielle

Pelletier, Stephanie Stainton and AthenaVasdani.

Scott Hledin, Blaine Belzar and MattStainton coach the Blue Lightning. TanyaPelletier is the trainer and Joanne Hunt isthe team’s manager.

Two other Oakville teams reached thefinals of their divisions. The Blue Shirtsfell 2-0 to the Niagara Falls Wolves in theatom final, while the Stingers were defeat-ed 5-0 by the Mississauga Tigers in thepeewee championship game.

Local semifinalists included the OrangeStarbursts and Green Gators (tyke), Tigers(novice), Light Blue Sharks (atom),Orange Flames (peewee) and Blu-pers(ladies).

LIGHTNING STRIKES: The Oakville Blue Lightning tyke squad earned distinction as the loneOakville Hornets girls’ house league hockey team to win its division at the association’s annual tour-nament last weekend at Joshua’s Creek Arenas.
