Introduction India has had one of the worlds fastest-growing
economies. In India there are number of factors which led to the
situation of energy crisis. There has been sharp rise in the
consumption of energy in India since the last decade of 20 th century. The year 1991 unlashed the forces of liberalization,
privatization sector and accompanying rise in energy, tidalenergy etc.
These resources have failed to fill the gap of demand andsupply of energy due to variety of reasons. Hydroelectricityis a cheap source of energy but is inflexible in terms of location.

Major causes of energy crisis in India
Hydroelectricity is inflexible in terms of location.Displacement of tribals and submergence of forestare other factors concerning hydroelectricity.
Non renewable resources - Soaring internationalprices of crude oil entails heavy outflow of foreignexchange and there is omnipresence of energyinsecurity in the event of disruption in supply.

Nuclear energy is being offered aspanacea for energy crisis beingfaced by India. Nuclear energy islocation independent sources of
energy i.e. a unclear reactor can beset in any locality to supplyelectricity. Further nuclear fuel ischeaper than the petroleum.

The nuclear energy program faced problem of nonavailability of natural uranium for rapid expansion of nuclear energy in country.
Natural uranium occur in small quantities in India andIndia can not import natural uranium from outside as it is not
a signatory to NPT and as a consequence NSF refuse to exportany nuclear energy related material and technologies to
India.

light of the projected benefits of nuclearenergy. July 18 deal envisages that USwill co operate with India for thedevelopment of civilian nucleartechnology and NSG rules are modified ina way so that India would be able toreceive natural uranium as well asadvanced nuclear technologies forcivilian use. The deal in turn obliges Indiato demarcate its civilian as well asmilitary establishment under IAEAregime.
