November 2014 Stated Meetings 3rd Tuesday 7 pm jbcovertlodge.com 848 Clough Pike
One of the most important duties that the Master of a lodge faces is that of preparing his officer line to move up and be assured that they are ready to take over and lead the lodge after his term is completed. His true goal should always be to insure that his successor has a better year than he did. In my case these are the easiest and most rewarding tasks that I have had to deal with in my year as Master. Brother Daniel Campbell and his exceptional officer line are going to have an OUTSTANDING year. If you have not been coming to lodge for a while then you owe it to yourself to recommit yourself to attending lodge and to see the quality of work that Daniel and his officer line are going to do in the upcoming year.
Our tradition at J. B. Covert dictates that no man serves as Master more than once. As my year comes to a close I look back on a long but very rewarding journey. I began my trip through the officer line as a steward and have been honored by the brothers of this lodge to be elected to serve in every chair in the progressive line. I have had opportunities to skip chairs along the way but I chose not to do so. I wanted to be able to serve the lodge in every chair. I think that it made the journey that much more rewarding for me.
I hope to do credit to the title of “Past Master of J. B. Covert Lodge”. It is a very honorable title and one that I will do my best to be worthy of. Many great men and great Masons bear that title and I am grateful for the opportunity to count myself among them. I want to thank you Brothers for the chance that you have given me to serve you and our wonderful lodge. Nearly four years of sitting in the East of various Masonic bodies can take its toll and I am not ashamed to say that I look forward to
June when I will become Past Illustrious Master of my Council. It has been a rewarding ride but I am looking forward to letting someone else have a turn at driving the train.
Our lodge had a good year and I have received much undeserved recognition asa result of the actions of others. One of my favorite quotes just happens to be perfectly suited to this occasion: “If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants”. I can’t think of a more appropriate description of my year as Master of J. B. Covert Lodge. I will close by saying thank you to each and every one of you who continue to make J. B. Covert Lodge a premier showcase of Freemasonry in Ohio. My biggest regret this year has been that Diana has not been here to share my year as Master with me. Hopefully, she will be home soon.
As you interact with our new brothers and look for new candidates for our lodge I leave you with the words of Plutarch: “The mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be lighted”. Go out and help someone to light the fire of Masonry in their mind. God Bless you all.

Trustee Project UpdateThere has been considerable activity on the part of the Trustees since their election in November of 2013. This report to the Lodge is a brief recap of the year’s projects:
Lighting Upgrade- taking advantage of a rebate program offered through Duke Energy all of the fluorescent lights in the building have now been upgraded to the latest more energy efficient ballasts and T8 lamps. All emergency lights were also upgraded during this project.
During this project we discovered a serious electrical issue on the second floor and were able to solve it with the assistance of members of the Lodge and a local electrician.
Duct Work Retool-Working with a Brother from Blanchester Lodge who donated his time and tools 16” flexible duct work was installed in both the cold air return and supply lines to the Lodge room which have made for significant improvement in the efficiency of the operation of the two HVAC units that control that space.
3 Phase Power Transformer Moved- Working with Duke Energy the 3 phase power transformer that supplies the building was replaced. This included a week long power disconnect from the building and Trustees coming in and out throughout the day and night to run a generator to keep the sump pump working.
Signage- Two full color 24” x 24” PVC signs have been added to the East and Dining Room Doors welcoming visitors to J. B. Covert on behalf of the Lodge, Eastern Star, and Commandery. The signs were donated.
