Diary Dates 2019

From the Principal – Katherine Holman

What a great week it has been with the Concert,

Graduation and end of year parties. The effort that

classes, the choir and the rock band had gone to was

terrific. The weather is always a concern with outside

events and this year we had fantastic weather. The BBQ

was a huge success and a big thanks to all the volunteers

who helped cook up the food. The talent we have at

Salisbury Heights never ceases to amaze us. The

confidence our children display is exceptional. Well

done to our staff for continuing to develop these

important life skills. Thanks to all staff for the team

work in preparing the students for these events.

Year 7 Graduation

This was another terrific night where our Graduating

Year 7’s were able to showcase the skills they have

developed over their time at Primary School. This year

students compered the entire show and the number of

children who were able to speak confidently in front of

the audience was amazing, a tribute to them and all the

staff that have worked with them. Many parents said

how nice the ceremony was and how talented the

children were.

The students looked great, were dressed appropriately

and were very confident. Thanks to the teachers, SSO’s

and everyone else involved in organising the Graduation.

We are very proud of our students and wish them all the

very best for the future.

Farewells

Good luck to the children and families that are moving

house and schools and thank you for your contribution to

our school community.

On behalf of the staff at Salisbury Heights Primary we

wish all of our families the very best for the festive

season and look forward to working with you again next

year. Enjoy your break and stay safe.

Holiday School Watch

On behalf of our school community I’d like to thank

those friends and neighbours who keep a caring eye on

our school property after school hours.

During the Christmas vacation no one should be within

the school fence enclosure except students attending Out

of School Hours Care – Vacation Care Program. At

times OSHC may have one of the fence gates open to

access the oval. This does not mean that other people are

welcome to enter and be around the school buildings. If

anyone has concerns regarding the behaviour of people

on the school premises or notice any damage to property,

please notify.

Grow wellbeing program We welcome Dr Dianne Wepa again to Salisbury

Heights in 2020. Dianne has joined us this year in terms

2, 3 & 4 and is from Grow Wellbeing. This year Dianne

worked with students whose parents had received mental

health care plans for students and she did home visits,

one to one and group sessions.

Dr Dianne Wepa works for Grow

Wellbeing and is an Accredited

Mental Health Social Worker.

Dianne has worked as a social

worker and family therapist for over

20 years in New Zealand. Dianne is

working with families that have

mental health care plans for an initial

period of 6 weeks and the plans can

be reviewed after this time frame.

The service assists families and

students work

through a variety of issues such as:

- including school refusal and attachment /

separation issues

-parenting issues

To be eligible you must see a GP and get a Mental

Health Care Plan. Please bring that into the front office

and collect the forms from Grow Wellbeing – no child

can be seen without these. We welcome Dianne back to

Salisbury Heights Primary School in 2020 and make sure

you say hello if you see her in the school.

Diary date 2020 – the carly ryan foundation Just a reminder for Week 4 2020 we have been

fortunate enough to book in times for our students and parents with the Carly Ryan Foundation. Students will

work with the foundation during the day in Online

Safety sessions and we will hold a Parent Information

session in the evening.

These sessions are sought after and extremely beneficial

for parents and students in this ‘online world’.

Leadership attended the sessions at one of our

partnership schools and we managed to get this on the

calendar for early next term. Although confronting the

information, helpful hints to family and the relevance to

our school community was clearly evident.

We will send notes out and get RSVPS early next term

but please keep the following evening free:

Week 4, Tuesday 18th

February 2020 . This will be on

the AGM night. More information to come out week 1

term 1.

would like to wish everyone in our community a safe, happy and restful holiday and our best wishes

for a very Happy Christmas and safe New Year. We look forward to seeing you all again in 2020

South Australian Chinese Awards On the 29th November 2019, Amelie McArdle from room 28 has been nominated to receive the Chinese Language Award from CLTASA. This is an annual award organised by CLTASA and made possible by the generous sponsorship of Australian Chinese Medical Association (ACMA) and the Confucius Institute of the University of Adelaide. Each participating primary and secondary school selects an enthusiastic and successful learner of Chinese as a second language from each primary and secondary school to attend a ceremony and receive a prize and certificate.
