Dear Parents,
It is hard to believe that it is already the month of May! Crestwood Primary had a fantastic turn out for our Earth Day
celebration. A big thank you to all the families that helped to make this event a success! The month of May will be very
busy at Crestwood Primary School including field trips and the special field day which is Friday, May 24, planned by
Mrs. Doneyko, our physical education teacher. We hope many parents can volunteer to help with this wonderful event.
As we end our school year I would like to thank each family for all the support of Crestwood Primary School this year. I
truly believe in the African proverb: “It takes a village to raise a child.” The Crestwood Primary Staff is very proud of
the wonderful accomplishments of the Preschool through grade 2 students in our building. Your child has grown in read-
ing, writing, math, science, and social studies because of the collaboration with the school. I am continually amazed at
the tremendous growth of the Crestwood Primary students. I thank you for sending your child to Crestwood Primary
School where children are our first priority!
Sincerely,
Beth Trivelli, Crestwood Primary Principal

In first grade, students are busing learning about recy-
cling and doing various Earth Day related activities.
Our Flat Stanleys’ are coming in from all over the
country (and the world!-France, Mexico and Dubai to
name a few). In math, we are learning about graphing
and data and starting geometry! All classes are getting prepared for their “Parent” by making items for their parents. Our “in house field trips” teach us about chemistry and bubble making. Hopefully, if we have nice weather, we will be outside by the new pavilion
at the Intermediate School!
KindergartenKindergartenKindergartenKindergarten
The Kindergarten Informational Night was held on April 11 and the teachers shared some very valuable
information about Common Core Curriculum. The kindergarten students should also be working nightly on
sight words and reading fluency. The goal is that every kindergarten student leave kindergarten on an In-
structional Level D. Students are working on addition in math and building a good foundation on number
sense and fluently adding to 5. The students made Earth Day grocery bags that will be distributed in local
stores in Mantua. Every student in Kindergarten will be going on a field trip on May 30th. Mrs. Dean and
Mrs. Stamm will visit Hiram Bio-Station and Mrs. Reese, Mrs. Curfman, Mrs. Griffith and Mrs. Brug-
manns' classes will visit Wagon Trails Animal Park.
Second GradeSecond GradeSecond GradeSecond Grade
Currently, the 2nd Grade students are learning about measurement
in Math and government in Social Studies. In Mr. Booher’s class,
the students are writing penpal letters to Ms. Gottschalk’s 3rd
Grade class in Bend, Oregon. The students will apply all of the
skills that they learned in Social Studies class to complete the city
project. The Social Studies skills include History, Culture, Eco-
nomics, Geography and Government. The second grade students
are exploring Earth Day and recycling through various activities -
stories, poems, and even finding the recycling number on empty
plastic containers to help them choose what new product the old
plastic should be made into.

All over-the-counter and prescription medications must be picked up by parent/guardian by
June 10, 2013. Any medication not picked up will be discarded. By law, students may carry
asthma rescue inhalers and epipens. If you do not pick these up by the last day of school, we
will send them home with the student unless you call and advise us that you will be coming in
for the medication.
If you think your child might need to use an inhaler, epipen, over-the-counter, or prescription
medication next school year, please pick up the appropriate authorization for prescription medi-
cation. Only parent permission is needed for over the counter medicine given per label direc-
tions for child’s age/weight. Please keep in mind that all medicine including cough drops, Ty-
lenol, Advil, Benadryl, prescriptions, etc. must be brought to school by the parent/guardian, be
in the original container and have the appropriate signed permission form.

Our 9th annual Earth Day Celebration was held on Friday, April 26, 2013. The event began with a wonderful assembly planned by Mrs. Gilles with songs from
our second grade enrichment choir.
We had 22 hands on learning stations planned for kids and families to enjoy. We had over 400 people attend this fantastic event. We appreciate all the volunteers and community agencies that helped to
make this evening a success!
