CommServe Server and MediaAgents Can Be a Virtual Machine You can use virtual machines instead of physical clients for the CommServe server and MediaAgents. Virtual
machines must meet the same hardware specifications as physical clients, such as CPU, RAM, IOPs, and network requirements.
We recommend that you manage extra-large backend data (up to 400 TB) with a single extra-large
MediaAgent using two DDB (deduplication database) partitions. For more information, see Hardware Specifications for Deduplication Extended Mode.
For other information about CommServe server and MediaAgent sizing, see the following topics:

Backup Agents
Incremental System State Backup Operations Incremental system state backup operations back up only the system-protected files that were modified after the most recent backup operation.
Key Features
Incremental system state backup operations have the following advantages because they back up only a few files:
System state backup operations are faster.
The backed-up data consumes less space on the media.
Applicable Agents
Windows File System Agent

Oracle 12 Multitenant Support Through Pluggable Database Tracking Oracle has introduced the Multitenant feature for Oracle 12c. There are 2 main databases that are part of
the Multitenant feature:
The container database (CDB): This database contains the files that the database needs to run, such as
the control file, the dictionary, and the redo logs. A CDB can contain one or more pluggable databases.
Pluggable databases (PDB): The PDBs contain data files and tablespaces. They do not contain any
control file because they use the CDB control file. Each PDB has a unique database ID.
If you have Oracle 12c, then you can unplug a PDB from one CDB and plug it into a new CDB to simplify
software patching and maintenance. When you move a PDB to a new CDB instance, Oracle prunes the
database backup information from the original CDB instance and does not update the new CDB instance with the backup information. The Commvault Oracle Agent software tracks the PDB and its container
database at a specific point in time so that you can identify the CDB for any point-in-time restore operation.
The Commvault software includes the PDB database ID in backups. You can run a script from the command
line that displays the following PDB information:
The client name where you ran the backup
The Oracle instance name
The Oracle PDB name
The backup creation time

The backup end time
The PDB database ID
After you have this information, you can use RMAN scripts to plug the PDB into a new CDB, or to clone the PDB.
Applicable Agents
Oracle
Setup Requirements
You must have an Oracle 12c environment that has Container Databases and Pluggable Databases.

Oracle E-Business Suite Migration - Early Release Feature You can use the Commvault application migration feature to move your on-site Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) to Oracle cloud storage.
Use the application migration feature in the following scenarios:
When you want to clone your Oracle EBS
When you want to move your production Oracle EBS to the cloud
Oracle EBS Tiers
Oracle EBS has three tiers that can contain multiple servers (also called nodes):
Database Tier: The server set that runs the Oracle database application
Application Tier: The server set that runs the business logic applications such as form services
Desktop Tier: The server set that runs web browsers
How Commvault Software Moves Oracle EBS to the Cloud
The Commvault software moves Oracle EBS from the nodes to the cloud by automatically performing the
following operations:
Provisioning the compute nodes (VMs) on the cloud for the Database Tier node and the Application Tier
node.
Provisioning the compute node storage to accommodate the Oracle EBS data and the application.
Configuring the data protection software on the source and the destination to handle the application
data movement to the cloud.

Replicating incremental changes when needed. For example, the software replicates any changes that
were made after the start of migration.
Validating the data after migration.
More Information:
Oracle E-Business Suite Migration
Setup Requirements:
The Commvault software supports the following configuration:
Oracle EBS version 12.2.2 or higher
A single-node Database Tier
A multi-node Application Tier
You must install the Commvault Oracle Agent software on the Database Tier node, and the Commvault File
System Agent software on all Application Tier Nodes.

IntelliSnap Backup Support
Support for Network Shares, Virtual Server Agent for Microsoft Hyper-V, and Virtual Server Agent for VMware on the EMC Unity Storage Array The Commvault software provides the IntelliSnap technology to manage snapshot operations, without the need for custom scripting, for many applications and storage platforms.
IntelliSnap already supports snapshot operations on LUNs on the EMC Unity storage array. With this service
pack, IntelliSnap also supports CIFS- and NFS-based file-system shares on the Unity storage array.
In addition, IntelliSnap now supports both the Virtual Server Agent for Microsoft Hyper-V and the Virtual
Server Agent for VMware on the Unity storage array.
Applicable Agents
All file system agents that are under NAS clients in the EMC Unity storage array
Virtual Server Agent for Microsoft Hyper-V

Virtualization
Convert a VMware Virtual Machine to an OpenStack Instance When restoring a VMware virtual machine from backup, you can restore the VM as an OpenStack instance.
This option is available if you have configured a virtualization client for the KVM hypervisor in your
Commvault environment. The conversion creates cinder volumes for all VM disks and launches an instance using the bootable cinder volume.

CDMI is an industry standard that defines the interface for applications to access and manage data objects
in cloud storage.
Key Features
The CDMI APIs are implemented as a REST service that is hosted on the Web Console.
Applications can access the ObjectStore using the existing infrastructure for CDMI servers.
Setup Requirements
Configure an ObjectStore.
Give the CDMI user edit access to the ObjectStore repository.
