Healthy Living Week has been a roaring success this week. On my travels around school my
olfactory glands have been tempted by healthy frittatas on Wednesday and on Thursday by delicious
granola bars being baked for the Healthy Bake Sale today. We are so lucky to have a school kitchen
and I know how much the children enjoy their cooking. It is a really good opportunity to use key
mathematical skills such as estimation and measurement. It’s also a great chance to use kitchen
equipment safely and to enjoy working in small groups.
With so much going on at Atwood at this time of year, it’s hard to choose my favourite bits of the
week- but I am going to pick Tuesday’s Nursery and Reception New Parents’ Evening and then
Thursday’s Dads and Male Carers’ Breakfast. Both events provided an opportunity for parents to
hear about the work at Atwood and build up a sense of community. On that note, back by popular
demand is the Dads’ Football Competition on Saturday 7th September from 9.45am at the Postal
Ground. We are looking for an 11 a side team from each year group to play in a competition. This
year, T10 will be at the event offering the chance for the children to get involved and may even field
a team themselves. The FOAP are supporting the event in a number of ways, including running the
BBQ. Drinks can be purchased from the Postal Ground bar. Monies raised will go to the FOAP
which in turn supports the children at Atwood.
Fingers crossed on the weather next week for Sports day and the Family Picnic. According to the
BBC weather app, next Thursday is looking fine, with sunshine and temperatures of 25 degrees. Will
summer finally make an appearance? Whilst we are on a sporting theme, the annual Croydon
Athletics championships take place next week, over 3 nights, culminating in the finals on
Wednesday. The competition is always of a really high standard and so good luck!

The children have had a lot of fun during Healthy
Living Week. Not only did they get to wear their
own clothes all week, but they’ve been taking part
in lots of activities, such as walking or running the
Daily Mile, to really get them thinking about what
being healthy means.
Many of the children have taken part in healthy
cooking too, concocting recipes such as vegetable
frittatas, smoothies and healthy granola bars. The
week culminates in the Year 5 Bake Sale, where
everyone has the chance to sample some delicious
(and healthy) treats.
HEALTHY LIVING WEEK
As part of our quest to become more environmentally responsible here at Atwood, we have made
the decision to ask parents not to send their children’s packed lunches in plastic bags when they go
on school trips. Instead, could we ask that you provide the children with a small rucksack or
drawstring bag that they can easily carry themselves? This will enable us to reduce the amount of
waste we are producing and help support the work of the Green Team. Thank you!
Lego Fundraiser
FOAP are again taking part in a Fab-Bricks fundraiser, where children
have the chance to order a personalised Lego minifigure or keyring, £1
from every order going to the school. Your child should have come home
with an order form already, and if you would like to purchase anything,
please visit:
https://www.tickettailor.com/events/foap/266694
You should then return your completed form to the school office by Tuesday 25th June.
Raffle Tickets
Raffle tickets are now on sale – your child should have come home with a book already. Please do
consider asking friends and family to buy some – there are some great prizes on offer and the money
raised goes towards FOAP’s fundraising projects. If you need some more tickets, please pop into
the office where there are plenty of spares.
Ice Lolly Sales
