Juniors reach out to the community
Xavier’s BPA team competed in Chicago at the Business Professionals of America National Leadership Conference, from April 25-19. The students qualified for the National Conference by placing at the state conference. Xavier has competed in a total of four BPA National Conferences and has brought home a national award each year.

students typically compete in each event, with the top ten students from that event receiving Finalist medals. In addition, first through third place finishers receive a plaque.
Xavier students who received finalist awards include: juniors James Krouse, Jacob Wallerstedt and Alex Tietz, and senior Collin Neuhaus, in Financial Analysis teams; Krouse in Administrative Support Concepts and Insurance Concepts; junior Sarah Chicchelly in Legal Office Procedures and
Marketing/Management Human Resources; and senior Rachel Sigmon in Fundamental Word Processing. In addition, Krouse received a third place award in Financial Math and Anaylsis.

On Friday April 27, the junior class participated in a community-wide service day retreat. Before groups set out to their assigned locations, Mass was held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Some of the locations juniors participated at included Meals on Wheels, Urban Farm, the Metro Catholic Outreach, the local parishes, and ReStore. Juniors also raked leaves and did other various yard work for parishioners in the area.
The retreat was led by senior Sam George for his service project for the class Ministry and Service. “The juniors did anything from talking to the elderly to manual labor,” George said.
The junior retreats includes a service component unlike the retreats for other grades. “It was an
eye-opening experience because I was able to do service with my classmates instead of just people from my church. I went to Metro-Catholic Outreach and enjoyed organizing canned goods. I could see how it was benefiting people of the community,” junior Maddie Myers said.
George was happy with how the retreat ran and he utilized senior classmates to facilitate each small group. George said, “The retreat was very successful because everything ran smoothly and went well.”
