It’s a New Year and it’s always about this time we start to re ect on the
days that have passed and, of
course, our resolutions from last year.
What were your New Year’s resolutions from
2011? Did you make any? It is said that over 50 percent of people make weight loss resolutions from year to
year. Were you one of those people? If so, did you reach your goal?
Imagine that you were able to reach your weight loss goal you set last year. Take a moment and think it over. Would your cho-lesterol be lower? Would you be o blood pressure medicine? Could you keep up with your kids or even your grand kids? Would you be wearing your favorite pair of jeans?
Weight loss is a bigger picture than making it to the gym a couple times a week. What about the other 23 hours in a day? How do you
make sure you’re successful during your time outside of the gym?
Ontological Life Coach-ing has helped millions of
people to achieve their best lives through one-on-one coaching sessions, which provide ac-countability, motiva-tion, structures of support, and keep you focused on your
goals. rough coaching, you
can have the energy to keep up with your kids, t into your skinny jeans, and feel and look better than you ever have before. We’re here to make sure you don’t lose
sight of your biggest dreams and desires both in the gym, as well as at home.
You are the most impor-tant person to take care of this year, what have you done for yourself lately?

It’s New Year’s Resolution time. Do you have your resolutions yet?
Many business owners I know say, “ is year I am going to be more organized. is year I am going to keep up on my accounting. is year I am going to keep my o ce clean.”
We try. But quickly, customer service and care gets in the way of our organizational plans. e ling, accounting, and other o ce tasks become low priority. Next thing we know, it’s June and we haven’t done any of the
o ce work yet. Frustra-tion sets in.
“Maybe next year I’ll be more organized.”
I have lived this for years. I get it!
I set out to really resolve this. To really nd out “what is wrong with me!”

resolution last year to read one book a month.
I started the year with “People Are Idiots and I Can Prove It” by Larry Winget.
One tip I took out of that book was, touch a piece of paper only once. What a great line. If we are trying to be more organized and save time in our businesses this seems key. Deal with things as they come. Example: You get the mail. You ip through it looking for checks and then put the rest on the desk. Later you look for a proposal on your desk so you ip through the mail and move it to the other side of the desk. en you clean your desk so you move the mail to the cabinet. Later you clean the o ce so you toss the junk mail and put the rest in the in-box. And so on and so on …
e time spent moving the mail around could have been spent just opening the mail and dealing with each item. Not only do you waste time moving mail around, you also carry in the back of your mind another thing you still have to deal with.
I also read “ e Success Principles” by Jack Can eld. is book is lled with many valuable pieces of informa-tion. Jack states, “ e circum-stances you complain about are, by their very nature, situ-ations you can change — but you have chose not to.”
He continues, “Making a change might take e ort, money and time. It might be uncomfortable, di cult, or confusing. And so, to avoid risking any of these uncomfortable feelings and experiences, you stay put and complain about it.”
Getting organized might take e ort, money and time. All things we feel we don’t have enough of as business owners. Who has time? Who has money? Who thinks they have more e ort to give? We are exhausted. But maybe getting organized will free us
in ways that will give us more time, e ort and money.
I am nishing the year with “ e 7 Habits of Highly E ective People” by Stephen R. Covey. Covey quotes Aristotle: “We are what we re-peatedly do. Excellence, then is not an act, but a habit.”
Basically, Covey is teaching us that everything we do is habit. We can create habits and we can break them. But it takes a great deal of strength and awareness to change those habits. Awareness is key. Once we start to see, be aware of our bad habits we can begin to change them, break them. As we move the mail stack around the o ce we need to pay attention to that. Break that habit. Deal with the mail and then on to more important things.
As you set your New Year’s resolutions this year, aim high. Happy New Year Kirkland!

[ BUSINESS from page 6]
What is it with New Year’s resolutions that make them so prone to failure, it’s almost ludicrous to think of making another one? You know how it goes: is year, it will be di erent! I will stick to my plans and see them through, no matter
what! And then, a few weeks later, things fall apart again and everything is back to “normal.”
If this scenario sounds familiar to you, you are not alone. Just one week into the new year, a quarter of resolu-
tionists will have given up,
according to Tom Connel-lan, author or the “1 Percent Solution – How to Make Your Next 30 Days the Best Ever.” In his estimation, about 90 percent of all the promises people make to themselves are forgotten as time moves on.
So, let’s be honest: New Year’s resolutions may be a time-honored tradition, but
you shouldn’t take them too seriously. Old habits don’t break easily. One of the main reasons why our best inten-tions o en fail is we rely too much on our own resolve, says Connellan.
