ARTIST & INFO
The Cure evolved into one of the most visionary, creatively satisfying and influential groups to come of age in the 1980s.From dreamy pop to moody expressionism, their signature sound is adventurous, hypnotic, and beautifully melodic.
It all started in 1976 as 'Easy Cure', formed by Robert Smith (vocals, guitar) along with schoolmates Michael Dempsey(bass), Lol Tolhurst (drums) and local guitar hero Porl Thompson. They began writing and demoing their own songs almost
immediately, playing throughout 1977 in Southern England to an ever growing army of fans. In 1978 the 'Easy' wasdropped, along with Porl, and an eager trio now known simply as The Cure were quickly signed to Chris Parry's newFiction label.

Recorded with , (The Used, Panic at the Disco) who acted as much as a friend and mentorDescription: John Feldmannas he did producer, debut is the most aggressive album Owens has made in hisDestroy Rebuild Until God Shows'musical career, yet it still retains the keen sense of melody that has helped him become one of today's most celebratedfrontmen. he explains, "I "It was so cathartic making this record because music is my form of therapy," can't wait to get out
he says.there and play these songs live because it'll get all those feelings out,"
From the electro-tinged anthem "If You Think This Song Is About You, It Probably Is" - which alternates between tunefulchoruses and double-bass fueled breakdowns - to metallically charged arena-ready rockers like "The Only Thing You TalkAbout," is teeming with sonic surprises that will undoubtedly satisfy Owens' legions ofDestroy Rebuild Until God Showsdedicated fans.
"These songs are so heavy that it's disgusting. Vocally it's melodic because as I grow older, I know I don't want to be a 30 Owens explains, adding that despite its electronic flourishes, year old screaming... that's just not who I am," Destroy
is more of a rock band than any project he's ever previously played in. He's also quick to clarifyRebuild Until God Showsthat despite the success of his various side-projects, such as Cinematic Sunrise and Isles & Glaciers, Destroy Rebuild
is a full-time project for everyone involved. Until God Shows "This is the only band I'm in and I've quit everything else that He continues, I've worked on previously." "Everyone's wrapping up their past with their old bands, and we're going to move
forward with this and not look back."
Lyrically, sees Owens at his most vulnerable. Instead of concentrating on wordplay asDestroy Rebuild Until God Showshe's done in the past, this time around, he tried to be as open and direct as possible. "I stripped away all the metaphors
he states. and fanciness here so there was more substance," "With this album and this band, I am being absolutely 100 Owens stressespercent honest; I'm not trying to outsmart or outwit anyone. It's just a chronicle of what I've been through."
that the band's title is also part of that same underlying theme. "People stereotype the name and react a certain way whenthey first hear it, but the actual name for me is more about the acronym; it's about how your entire life can change in oneday and you can destroy everything but you can also rebuild it."

Blessings often come in disguise, and the formation of is a perfectDestroy Rebuild Until God Shows (D.R.U.G.S.)example of how the ending of one experience can be a transformative stepping-stone toward something greater. Case inpoint: When front man Craig Owens was let go from the Michigan based post-hardcore band he'd fronted since 2001, hewas faced with an uncertain situation. Instead of dwelling on it, he turned that energy into the motivation to create a newproject that would eclipse anything he's done in the past. "Over the last 12 months I've done a lot of growing as a human
he explains. being, as far as figuring out who I am," "The idea for this band stemmed from the fact that I wanted to do this right; I wanted to make the biggest band I possibly could, and that's exactly what I've done here."

insists Jessica Lea Mayfield. "Description: "I'm actually really shy," Not musically, but personally."
This uncommonly mature 21-year-old singer-songwriter's Nonesuch debut balances the warm-hearted with thecold-blooded. is a stunningly forthright 11-song set that addresses late-night longing, serial heartbreak, andTell Meintoxicatingly dangerous liaisons conducted in dimly lit barrooms or roadside motels. By the end, the only heart intact isMayfield's own. It's as if she'd stripped the sentimentality and ruefulness from a bunch of classic country songs, leavingonly stark emotion. The Black Keys' singer and guitarist Dan Auerbach, who produced and engineered at his EasyTell MeEye Sound System studio in Akron, Ohio, matches Mayfield's candor with eerily minimal, brilliantly constructed tracks thatkeep her mesmerizing, unadorned voice front and center.
ARTIST & INFO
Kent, Ohio native Mayfield, at least as she portrays herself on record, could have walked out of a darkly dramatic BlackKeys murder ballad like "Ten Cent Pistol." In fact, many of the duo's fans first learned of Mayfield through a soulful duetwith Auerbach, "Things Ain't Like They Used To Be," that memorably closed the 2008 Black Keys disc, Attack and Release.
Auerbach discovered Mayfield through her 2005 EP , self-pressed in a single run of 100 copies, that she'd cut atWhite Lieshome with her brother, David. Auerbach was impressed enough with this bedroom recording to contact Mayfield via herMyspace page, leaving a simple message: "Hi, my name is Dan, and I play with a band called The Black Keys out of
Together, they embarked on recording Mayfield's bare-bones first album, the independently released Akron." With, which garnered an 8.2 rating on Pitchfork and uniformly enthusiastic reviews elsewhere.Blasphemy So Heartfelt
NPR's World Café declared she has while the New York Times"a mature sound that seems evolved beyond her years,"added that her sound is "guarded, insinuating, mesmerizing...music that lets you hear all its details."

Description:
Live In Marciac, a two-CD/one DVD set, is pianist and composer Brad Mehldau’s second collection of live solo recordings, joining in his Nonesuch catalogue. This engrossing set, from a summer festival in Marciac, France, featuresLive In Toykoboth Mehldau originals and his ruminative explorations of material from such artists and writers as Nick Drake, Radiohead,John Lennon and Paul McCartney, and Kurt Cobain, along with American Songbook classics from Cole Porter (“It’s AllRight With Me”) and Rogers and Hammerstein (“My Favorite Thing”).
The accompanying film offers a beautifully rendered, piano’s-eye view of Mehldau from this French performance, anextraordinarily up-close opportunity to observes his hands—and mind—at work. As London’s has noted, “He’s aTelegraphpianist who has it all, technically speaking, and he also has a fabulously well-stocked brain that can mingle differentmusical traditions. He can turn a standard with consummate musicianship and real swing, he can mine the depths of ablues chord sequence, he can summon a rock-anthem ecstasy. And lurking in the background is a fascination withclassical music, revealed in the way inner parts surge and pluck at the main melody.”
The release of this live set caps a remarkable year for the pianist, who just celebrated his 40th birthday in August. Mehldauwas awarded the prestigious Richard and Barbara Debs Composers Chair at Carnegie Hall for the current season, inrecognition of his “sensuous, cerebral, and incandescent” work. Through spring 2011, he is serving as an artist inresidence at Carnegie Hall, programming concerts—including the recent live premiere of his latest original work, Highway
—and conducting master classes, as well as collaborating with other artists, such as mezzo soprano Anne Sofie vonRiderOtter, with whom he will perform an expanded version of his . This honor marks the first time the chair hasLove Songsbeen given to a jazz artist and, as magazine put it, not just any cat—a pianist with broad influences and aNew Yorkcerebral style.”
Highway Rider, released on Nonesuch in March, has been universally acclaimed. Naming it one of the best jazz releasesof 2010, NPR declared, “With producer Jon Brion lending a hand, Mehldau has put forth a double album of entirely originalmusic that shows how much he's grown as a composer, and not just a renowned pianist. “ The Los Angeles Timesconcurs: “Full of unexpected twists and lush, evocative detours, is most definitely a trip, and one well worthHighway Ridertaking.”

Jazz pianist Brad Mehldau has recorded and performed extensively since the early 1990s. Mehldau's most consistentoutput over the years has taken place in the trio format. Starting in 1996, his group released a series of five records onWarner Bros. entitled The Art of the Trio. Mehldau also has a solo piano recording entitled , and a recordElegiac Cyclecalled that includes both solo piano and trio songs. and might be called "concept" albums.Places Elegiac Cycle PlacesThey are made up exclusively of original material and have central themes that hover over the compositions. OtherMehldau recordings include , a collaborative effort with the innovative musician and producer Jon Brion, and Largo
-a trio outing with bassist Larry Grenadier and drummer Jorge Rossy. His first record for Nonesuch, Anything Goes Brad, was released in 2004. After ten rewarding years with Rossy playing in Mehldau's regular trio,Mehldau Live in Tokyo
drummer Jeff Ballard joined the band in 2005. The label releasesd its first album from the Brad Mehldau Trio-Day is Done-in 2005.
Mehldau's musical personality forms a dichotomy. He is first and foremost an improviser, and greatly cherishes thesurprise and wonder that can occur from a spontaneous musical idea that is expressed directly, in real time. But he alsohas a deep fascination for the formal architecture of music, and it informs everything he plays. In his most inspired playing, the actual structure of his musical thought serves as an expressive device. As he plays, he listens to how ideas unwind, and the order in which they reveal themselves. Each tune has a strongly felt narrative arch, whether it expresses itself in abeginning, an end, or something left intentionally open-ended. The two sides of Mehldau's personality-the improviser andthe formalist-play off each other, and the effect is often something like controlled chaos.
Mehldau has performed around the world at a steady pace since the mid-1990s, with his trio and as a solo pianist. Hisperformances convey a wide range of expression. There is often an intellectual rigor to the continuous process ofabstraction that may take place on a given tune, and a certain density of information. That could be followed by a strippeddown, emotionally direct ballad. Mehldau favors juxtaposing extremes. He has attracted a sizeable following over theyears, one that has grown to expect a singular, intense experience in his performance.
In addition to his trio and solo projects, Mehldau has worked with a number of great jazz musicians, including a rewardinggig with saxophonist Joshua Redman's band for two years, recording and concerts with Charlie Haden and Lee Konitz, and recording as a sideman with the likes of Wayne Shorter, John Scofield, and Charles Lloyd. For more than a decade,he has collaborated with several musicians and peers whom he respects greatly, including the guitarists Peter Bernsteinand Kurt Rosenwinkel and tenor saxophonist Mark Turner. Mehldau also has played on a number of recordings outside ofthe jazz idiom, like Willie Nelson's and singer-songwriter Joe Henry's . His music has appeared in severalTeatro Scarmovies, including Stanley Kubrick's and Wim Wender's . He also composed an originalEyes Wide Shut Million Dollar Hotelsoundtrack for the French film, . Mehldau also composed two new works commissioned byMa Femme Est Une ActriceCarnegie Hall for voice and piano, and which were performedThe Blue Estuaries The Book of Hours: Love Poems to God,in the spring of 2005 with the acclaimed classical soprano, Renee Fleming. These songs were recorded with Fleming andreleased in 2006 on the record; simultaneously, Nonesuch released an album of Mehldau's jazzLove Sublimecompositions for trio entitled .House on Hill

Buying time and thwarting bootleggers, Nirvana and DGC released the rarities compilation Description: Incesticidetoward the end of 1992. Like any odds'n'sods collection, this is uneven, but that's its charm since it captures Nirvana'scharacter better than any official album. After all, this was a band that was born equally from '70s sludge metal, bubblegumpop, post-punk artiness, and indie rock inclusiveness, each of which are apparent on this collection. There are somenon-entities here, particularly on the second side, but the plodding sub-metallic grind was part of their identity, one part oftheir multi-faceted character.
Nirvana meant everything to everyone, from the jangle pop veterans to the garage rock ravers that worshipped theStooges to stoner metal fetishes and indie rock bed-sits that adopted Sebadoh just as they outgrew Morrissey - everybodyloved Nirvana, and there's something for every kind fan here, thanks to murky sludge, Devo and Vaseline covers, BBCsessions, instrumentals, and limited-edition singles, plus sub-Melvins goop, everything visceral where Bleach was tame.
doesn't capture this freewheeling indie spirit but does, piling on some essentials in the meantime -Nevermind Incesticidethe pummeling "Dive," the childhood snapshot "Sliver," the terrific forgotten indie pop tune "Been a Son," and "Aneurysm,"perhaps the greatest single song the group ever recorded. Yeah, there's some filler here, but this is the sound of whatNirvana was actually like.
ARTIST & INFO
Nirvana popularized punk, post-punk, and indie rock, unintentionally bringing it into the American mainstream like no otherband to date. While Nirvana's ideology was indie rock and their melodies were pop, the sonic rush of their records and liveshows merged the post-industrial white noise with heavy metal grind. And that's what made the group an unprecedentedmulti-platinum sensation.

ARTIST & INFO
ZZ Top an American blues rock band, formed in 1969 in Houston, Texas. Comprising of Billy Gibbons (lead vocals, guitarand harmonica), Dusty Hill (vocals, bass, and keyboards), and Frank Beard (drums and percussion), ZZ Top was rankednumber 44 on VH1's "100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock.". The trio's original lineup has been intact for over 40 years. ZZTop retained the services of the same manager, Bill Ham, until September 2006.
The bandmates' image has been as unchanging and memorable as their music. Their signature style of dress andaccessories are hard to miss. Gibbons and Hill often use the same synchronized dance moves while performing onstage, and with few exceptions appear in public wearing sunglasses. The pair favor wearing similar black clothing (usually bikerleathers) and various headgear which often include cowboy hats, baseball caps, and bandanas. Gibbons and Hill, whoappear as twin frontmen wear chest-length untrimmed beards, although drummer Frank Beard has only a trimmedmustache. In 1984, the Gillette Company reportedly offered Gibbons and Hill $1 million each to shave their beards for atelevision commercial. They allegedly declined, saying "We're too ugly without 'em.
ZZ Top was inducted by Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 15, 2004.Cub Koda wrote, "As genuine roots musicians, they have few peers; Gibbons is one of America's finest blues guitaristsworking in the hard rock idiom ... while Hill and Beard provide the ultimate rhythm section support."

ARTIST & INFO
Hometown: Los Angeles
It's better if you don't understand; just listen and have a good time. That's the response Bruno Mars will give you with asmile when asked to describe his sound and music. He would much rather sing, perform, and write his songs than talkabout them, but that is becoming more and more unavoidable these days. It might seem that Mars appeared out ofnowhere, co-writing, producing and performing on B.o.B's #1 "Nothin' On You" followed by Travie McCoy's chart-climbing"Billionaire", but he makes one thing clear: "It's not an overnight success".
Mars is a multitalented singer, songwriter, producer and musician who feels most at home when he's performing. Born to amusical family in Honolulu, Hawaii, he was practically raised on the stage. His father, a Latin percussionist from Brooklyn, organized a Vegas-style revue that featured the entire family, including his mother, a talented vocalist. When afour-year-old Mars observed his family performing Motown hits, doo-wop medleys and impersonations for enthusiasticcrowds all over his native Waikiki Beach, "I was jealous!" says Mars with a laugh. "My dad put me on stage and Iremember singing an Elvis song and that was it. Ever since that moment, I've been addicted."
As soon as he graduated high school, Mars left Hawaii for Los Angeles with dreams of launching his career as aperformer. Those dreams got put on hold, however, when The Smeezingtons, the songwriting/production team he founded

with Philip Lawrence and Ari Levine, suddenly took off. The pair has crafted major hits for a diverse roster of talent, including Flo Rida's "Right Round", Travie McCoy's "Billionaire", Brandy's "Long Distance" and K'Naan's "Waving Flags",which is the theme song for the upcoming World Cup.
On the heels of "Nothin' on You" and "Billionaire" and as a preview of what's to come from Bruno Mars, Elektra Recordsreleased a 4-song EP aptly titled "It's Better If You Don't Understand". The title is taken from a lyric to "The Other Side";one of the songs included that features Cee-Lo Green and re-teams Mars with B.o.B. The EP has gone on to sell over20,000 units to date.
In preparation for his full length debut, Bruno recently released his first single "Just The Way You Are". The single isalready in heavy rotation across Top 40 stations nationwide and has sold over 200,000 units to date.
Although he's incredibly proud of the recordings, Mars feels the best way to experience the sound is to see him performlive with his band. "That is what I'm most excited for - taking these songs and traveling them around the world." The onlyplace he would rather be than in the recording studio, is with his band on stage - where he grew up. "I think people arereally going to gravitate towards the live show. We turn it into a party."
Bruno will have this opportunity as he gears up for his first sold out NYC show at Bowery Ballroom later this month and afall tour with Maroon 5 in October.
