A Summary Information Flow Chart of the IB Programme for Grade 11 and Grade 12
IB is a rigorous two-‐year programme, primarily aimed at students aged 16 to 19.
These are two ways students can be involved in the IB Diploma Programme. They can earn the:
IB Courses
One or more subjects can be selected (max of 6 subjects)
at Higher Level at 240 hrs each
or Standard Level at 150 hrs each
Community Service
Minimum of 24 points required to receive the IB Diploma
Maximum score is 45 points inclusive of 3 bonus points
IB Diploma and American Diploma
Minimum of 4 is required per subject to receive an IB course
in each subject
External IB examinations in all subjects in Grade 12
External IB examinations in all selected subjects in Grade 12
American Diploma and IB Courses
Complete Courses in all subjects
IB Diploma
Six Subjects 3 Higher Level at 240 hrs each
3 Standard Level at 150 hrs each 6 Subjects (3 or 4 at HL, 3 or 2 at SL)
Satisfactory completion of all components

Choosing Subjects for an IB Diploma
The IB Diploma student is required to choose at least one subject from each group totaling 6 subjects (3 or 4 HL or 2 SL respectively) with the following exceptions:
1. Group 2 ‘Language Acquisition’ may be substituted with an additional language from Group 1 ‘Studies in Language and Literature’ (Bilingual Diploma). 2. ‘The Arts’ group may be substituted with an additional subject from any of the other groups.
At JKS, the following subjects are offered in each group:
1. Group 1 ‘Studies in Language and Literature’: • Arabic A Language and Literature HL/SL • English A Language and Literature HL/SL
2. Group 2 ‘Language Acquisition’: • Arabic B HL/SL • Spanish Ab initio SL • French ab initio SL
3. Group 3 ‘Individuals and Societies’: • Economics HL/SL • Business and Management HL/SL • Psychology HL/SL
4. Group 4 ‘Sciences’: • Biology HL/SL • Chemistry HL/SL • Physics HL/SL
5. Group 5 ‘Mathematics’: • Mathematics HL/SL • Mathematical Studies SL
6. Group 5 ‘The Arts’: • Visual Arts HL/SL
