Scouts:
Our Girl Scout Troop will resume having meetings this month. Our Boy Scout Troop is
still hanging on, hopefully the one scout will finish his requirements for his Eagle that's why the
troop re-chartered for 2017. Our Scoutmaster and few remaining scouts are helping him as much
as possible but the scout needs to "earn" it himself.

The Cape Atlantic Detachment again was able to make available the total sum of three
thousand dollars to be awarded to relatives of the Cape Atlantic Detachment through the Dan
Ball Memorial Scholarship Fund. Part of that three thousand included one thousand dollars from
Dan Ball's daughter, Kathleen Snore. This is the second year that Dan's family has donated this
amount for the scholarship fund. Three one thousand dollar scholarships were awarded in 2017
Phil Uecker's granddaughter Annaleisse Lowe and New Jersey Marine Corps League State

Hurricane Harvey
Marines there are several ways you can help Marines affected from Hurricane Harvey.
This most likely will be expanded to help with relief efforts in Florida from Hurricane Irma:
September 1, 2017
The Marine Corps League Foundation has set up a special account with its financial
institution, Wells Fargo, to where anyone wishing to make a donation to this fund can go into
any Wells Fargo branch and make a donation into the MCL Foundation Inc. Disaster Relief
account. The account number is 2844006086. These donations will be immediately available in
the assistance efforts. If there is no Wells Fargo branch available, donations can be sent to the
Marine Corps League Foundation President at Gregory Hunt, President Marine Corps League
Foundation, 130 Beverly Drive, Franklin, North Carolina 28734. Please indicate in the

New Jersey Run for the Fallen
To all,
The Detachment will participate again this year in the "Run For The Fallen" 2017.
The annual "Run For The Fallen" will be in our area Friday, September 22. I would like to have
2 or 3 League members at each site that honors a fallen Marine. There are 4 sites, details below.
The preferred uniform of the day is red MCL polo shirt, black trousers (khaki if don't have
black), and red MCL cover.
Site #1: time 0821, location Shore Road (US Army Reserve Bldg, 133 Shore Road, Northfield),
Hero Marker #207, Marine, SSgt Anthony L. Goodwin
Site #2: time 0918, location Route 9 (Absecon Veteran's Park, 167 New Road), Hero Marker
#212, Marine, LCpl Donald S. Brown
Site #3: time 1014, location Route 9 (Intersection @ E. Somerstown Lane, Galloway) Hero
Marker #217, Marine, Sgt Brian D. McGinnis
Site #4: time 1036, location Route 9 (at Galloway Elks Lodge) Hero Marker #219, Marine,
Lance Cpl Luke C. Yepsen and Army Specialist Simeon Hunte
For those not familiar with this event here's a little info.
One Mile, One Flag, One Hero
In an apolitical reflection of remembrance a team of 24 military personnel from Joint Base M
cGuire-Dix-Lakehurst and other bases across the country will come together to embark
on a 190+ mile run that honors every NJ service member killed in support
of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom, Operation
New Dawn and all Wars and Conflicts. Each mile of the
run is dedicated to a NJ Hero and their Gold Star family. The run team will
stop at each Hero Marker presenting a flag and personalized biographical
card to waiting family members, friends and comrades. With the goal of creating a 190+ mile
memorial trail through New Jersey. Below is taken from the Run For The Fallen website
their Purpose and Mission Statement.
Purpose:
Although we visibly run one mile to honor and remember each fallen hero from the current
conflicts, the total run represents every service member from New Jersey who laid down their
lives for freedoms cause. Thousands have sacrificed to preserve our way of life and as you give
tribute to a particular hero please remember others who have given the ultimate sacrifice
throughout history. New Jersey being rich in the foundation of this country has given 16,408
of her sons and daughters.

Regardless of war or conflict, branch of service or method of death, we ultimately run for
them all, honoring their service and sacrifice, and remembering that they each gave up a
future so that we could have ours. We give tribute to them by name wherever possible and to
the sacrifice of the families they left behind.
Mission Statement:
"The New Jersey Run for the Fallen is an organization of runners (all active duty military)
and support crew whose mission is clear and simple: To run one mile for every New Jersey
service member killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom and New Dawn. Each
mile of sweat and pain and each flag saluted, is to pay homage to one service member’s life
and their family.
The last Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday of September, we run across New Jersey to
raise awareness for the lives of those who fought and died, to rejuvenate their memories and
keep their spirits alive, to support organizations that aid the families of those killed, and to aid
in the healing process for the native New Jersey residents whose lives have been affected by
the war.
We refuse any political affiliation or agenda, but simply honor those who have fought, and
those who have fallen under the American flag."
(Note...the above mission statement was written by MSGT Bubba Beason on 10/23/2010 whilst
he was deployed in Afghanistan)
Please let me know if you plan on attending and what site you'll be at ( [email protected] or
call my cell 609-432-2985). Please be in place ahead of time (approximately 30 minutes) since
the road will be congested with runners and support vehicles. So far I have the following signed
up:
Site#1: Jim Dickson, Joe Patrick
Site #2: Bill McGinley, Phil Uecker
Site #3: Bill McCrudden, Bob McCarty
Site #4: Mo Loveland, Jim Dunbar
Semper Fi,
