Brad T. Stilwell I do not believe it is necessary to always require the use of a dirt trap. For instance
there could be single nozzle, single bottle systems where the pipe run is kept to a
minimum and the dirt trap would make the system installation difficult and add no
benefit.
W. David Hoffman The solution of adding dirt traps is addressing a problem that does not exist. There
is a current requirement for pipes to be cleaned and swabbed which has proven to
be effective. Additionally, "...the end of each pipe run." is too broad and would
create confusion.

Thomas J. Wysocki Overall, I believe this in an improvement to the standard's treatment of pipe
hangers. I am concerned about mandating that hangers be in accordance with
B31.1 primarily because I am not thoroughly versed in the B31.1 hanger
requirements - further study would be appropriate before making B31.1
mandatory. I vote affirmative so the overall improvement can go through to the
Public Comment stage.
Negative 3
Brad T. Stilwell Requiring pipe supports to meet ASME B31.1 will create an unnecessary
Engineering task to system owners. Currently the FSSA handbook provides
adequate information on pipe support.
W. David Hoffman ASME B31.1 does not address the issue as it applies to clean agent systems.
Kevin Murray I believe ANSI B31.1 could require much more than necessary for a clean agent
installation. The FSSA Piping Design Guide already covers pipe fittings & hangars
without adding the complexity that ANSI B31.1 could do.
Abstain 2
Paul E. Rivers Clarification is needed regarding how B31.1 and the FSSA guide correlate with
respect to hanger design.

John C. Spalding Fire Suppression Systems Association is abstaining on First Revision 31 until its
Technical Committee has an opportunity to evaluate the correlation of ASME
B31.1 with the "FSSA Pipe Design Guide for Use with Special Hazard Fire
Suppression Systems." A review is necessary to ensure that there is no conflict
between the two documents. Further, it may be suggested to eliminate the
reference to ASME B31.1 from 4.2.3 and let stand the asterisk reference to Annex
A.4.2.4.

Kevin Murray I believe 4.3.1.1.2 is not needed or a scenario we should support. (If the
configuration of multiple control units is listed for releasing device service, and if a
trouble condition or manual disconnect on either control unit causes a trouble or
supervisory signal, the initiating device on one control unit shall be permitted to
actuate releasing devices on another control unit in lieu of 4.3.1.1.1. [72:23.11.9]) I
also want to make sure the wording does not preclude a Building Fire Alarm
Control Panel that is Listed for Releasing from protecting a room inside the
building.

John C. Spalding Fire Suppression Systems Association agrees that 4.3.1.1 needs additional
information for defining and clarifying the arrangement of the Suppression System
Releasing Control Panels). However, the nomenclature of NFPA 72 should be
modified to clearly differentiate the Suppression System Releasing Control Panel
from the protected premise (Building) fire alarm system. 4.3.1.1.2 is confusing
and, in fact, should be eliminated.

Paul E. Rivers Agree to move this FR forward, but note that the table references IPCC 2013, and
all but FIC-13I1 are included in the table in IPCC 2013. Suggest that FIC-13I1 be
removed from the table and consider removing the agent from the standard this
cycle.
