Last season Matthew Anchel appeared with Germany’s Leipzig Opera as Alaska Wolf Joe in Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny and Harasta in The Cunning Little Vixen. He has also appeared with the Los Angeles Opera as a Domingo-Thornton Young Artist as Count Ceprano in Rigoletto and a Noble in Lohengrin. Other roles include Horaste in Walton’s Troilus and Cressida and the First Soldier in Salome with Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Ferrando in Il Trovatore with Opera San José, and Henry VIII in Anna Bolena with dell’Arte Opera Ensemble. He has won prizes from the Palm Beach Opera Competition, Opera Index, Loren L. Zachary Competition, and George London Competition. (Eastern Region)
Matthew Anchelbass (new york, new york)age 25
Michael Brandenburg studied voice while completing his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Aquatic Biology at Ball State University. He was a 2010 semi-finalist in Chicago’s Bel Canto Foundation Competition and a 2010 Indiana District winner in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. This spring, he was featured in recital with baritone Timothy Noble. Currently pursuing a performer diploma at the Jacobs School of Music, he recently made his operatic debut as Prince Charming in Massenet’s Cendrillon with Indiana University Opera Theater, where he is a Jacobs Fellow. Tracy Cox is currently in her third year in the Domingo-Thornton Young Artist program at the Los Angeles Opera where she made her professional debut as Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro and has also sung Pisana in Verdi’s I Due Foscari. Last summer she made her international concert debut at Moscow’s Vishnevskaya Opera Center. She received her master’s degree from UCLA and was a 2012 winner of the Marilyn Horne Song Competition. Next month she appears in recital in Santa Monica as part of Horne’s On Wings of Song series. Upcoming appearances include Female Chorus in The Rape of Lucretia and Debussy’s La Damoiselle Élue at the Cincinnati May Festival, and Alice in Falstaff with the Wolf Trap Opera. (Western Region)
Tracy Coxsoprano (dallas, texas)age 27
Brandon Cedel is currently a student at Curtis Institute of Music where he will receive his master’s degree this spring. He has sung with the Opera Company of Philadelphia, Curtis Opera Theater, Opera Santa Barbara, Music Academy of the West, Opera Orchestra of New York, and at the Castleton Festival, Oman’s Royal Opera House, and Chautauqua Festival. He has also worked with orchestras including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Harrisburg Symphony, Hershey Symphony, and Marina Del Rey Symphony. He was the 2012 winner of the George London Award, Sullivan Foundation Award, and recipient of the Sara Tucker Study Grant from the Richard Tucker Foundation. (Middle Atlantic Region)

A graduate of the University of Cape Town, Musa Ngqungwana has sung Antonio in Le Nozze di Figaro, Leporello in Don Giovanni, Dulcamara in L’Elisir d’Amore, Don Profondo in Il Viaggio a Reims, and Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro with the University of Cape Town Opera School, the Innkeeper in Manon with ArtsCape Opera House, Ping in Turandot with Verona’s Teatro Filarmonico, and the Priest in The Cunning Little Vixen with ArtsCape Theater. Other Roles include the Governor’s Servant in Garwood’s The Scarlett Letter with Merriam Theater, Talpa in Il Tabarro at the Kimmel Center for Performing Arts, Count Waldner in Arabella with the Helen Corning Warden Theater, the Commendatore in Don Giovanni at Rutgers, Lorenzo in I Capuleti e i Montecchi and Zuniga in Carmen with the Crested Butte Music Festival, and the Four Villains in Les Contes d’Hoffmann with Philadelphia’s Academy of Vocal Arts. Sydney Mancasola is currently a resident artist at Philadelphia’s Academy of Vocal Arts where she has sung Adina in L’Elisir d’Amore, Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Mélisande in Pelléas et Mélisande, and Antonia and Stella in Les Contes d’Hoffmann. She is the recipient of the Judith Raskin Memorial Award and has also received awards from the Sullivan Foundation, Gerda Lissner Foundation International Vocal Competition, Liederkranz Foundation Competition, George London Foundation Competition, and Houston Grand Opera’s Eleanor McCollum Competition. This spring she joins the Fort Worth Opera as Young Alyce in Tom Cipullo’s Glory Denied. Richard Ollarsaba is a recent graduate of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts where he earned a post-graduate certificate and a master’s degree. While at UNCSA he was heard as Cecil in Maria Stuarda, Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte, and Falstaff in The Merry Wives of Windsor. He earned his bachelor of music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music and has appeared with North Carolina’s Piedmont Opera as Ferrando in Il Trovatore, Masetto in Don Giovanni, and Reverend Hale in Robert Ward’s The Crucible. This past summer he attended the Tanglewood Music Center where he sang Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy, which was also broadcast on PBS’s Great Performances series. He will be a member of the Lyric Opera of Chicago’s Ryan Opera Center and is currently a resident artist with Minnesota Opera (where he is heard this season as the High Priest in Nabucco, Lord Rochefort in Anna Bolena, and Timur in Turandot). Rebecca Pedersen is a sophomore at Brigham Young University and is a resident artist at Dolora Zajick’s Institute for Young Dramatic Voices. She recently appeared in concert with the Utah Symphony, conducted by Thierry Fischer, and was the 2010 and 2012 winner of the Utah Salute to Youth competition. As a freshman, she won both the BYU Singer of the Year Award and the Concerto Competition. She also maintains a close working relationship with the Utah Lyric Opera, where she has appeared in recent productions of La Traviata and La Bohème. She has also sung Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte for BYU and Genovieffa in Suor Angelica for Utah/Idaho Performing Arts Company. (Rocky Mountain Region)

Recent performances for Efraín Solís include the title role of Eugene Onegin in Philadelphia with the Russian Opera Workshop and Guglielmo in Così fan tutte, Dr. Falke in Die Fledermaus, Matthew in Thomas Pasatieri’s La Divina, and Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro with Italy’s Rome Opera Festival. At the San Francisco Conservatory of Music has sung Guglielmo and the title roles of Don Giovanni and Gianni Schicchi. This spring he joins Opera Santa Barbara as a part of their Studio Artist Program and this year also becomes a member of the San Francisco Opera’s Merola Opera Program where he will sing Junius in Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Chapman University’s Conservatory of Music and is currently a candidate for a master of music degree at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. (Western Region)
