The critical cross-field outcomes cut across all qualifications and you need to prove to your assessor that you have these skills. You do not have to give extra evidence – simply cross reference these CCFOs to evidence already in your portfolio.

Section 11: Knowledge questionnaire
VDQ RPL Template Portfolio of Evidence Final 09.05.2017 (1)
Knowledge questionnaire
This is an open book assessment, and you can make use of any relevant text books or documents to assist you to complete the questionnaire.
It is recommended that you type your answers directly after the questions below.
If you leave out the question, due to a credit, please indicate this next to the question i.e. N/A – Credit: COP or Exemption: Matric
If you elect not to do this, please reproduce the question so that the assessor can see which question is being answered.
The Knowledge questionnaire is structured according to the clusters. If you find
the unit standard number in cluster 3, your question will be in that section.
This knowledge questionnaire must be completed by all RPL candidates
regardless of whether they submit naturally occurring evidence or they complete the assignment.
Knowledge Questions for Cluster 01
Section 13: Observation Evidence
Some unit standards require that you are OBSERVED by an assessor or Evidence Facilitator in a practical situation. For this qualification the unit standards that must be observed are:
8974: Engage in sustained oral communication and evaluate spoken texts
8979: Use language and communication in occupational learning programmes (specific Outcome 5: Lead and Function in a Team)
If you do not have a credit for these standards your RPL Adviser will take these
forms from you during the Preparation Session and complete them. You must get them back from your assessor and insert into your Portfolio here. If you don’t get
them back – email [email protected] and they will find them for you.
If you have a credit for these standards, you can leave the forms blank – and
write ‘refer to standard 10 (Grade 12) certificate on pages 12’.

Section 15: Appeal Form The ETQA ensures that an Appeals Procedure is in place, i.e. an appeal against an assessment decision. Candidates should be secure in the knowledge that they can appeal against an unfair assessment. The provider must develop an appeals procedure in line with the requirements of the ETAQ. Appeals can be brought against:
Unfair assessments
Invalid assessments
Unreliable assessments
The assessors’ judgement, if considered biased
Inadequate expertise and experience of the assessor if it influenced the assessment
Unethical practices The VDQ RPL Committee Appeal Procedure
You must appeal in writing – write to The Assessor Manager: Appeals; P.O. Box 3957, Dainfern, 2055.
Complete the attached RPL form. You will be required to pay R350 for your appeal. This will be returned to
you if the original decision is changed.
You must appeal within 7 days of receiving feedback from your assessor.
Your assessor will meet with you. You will explain your appeal to the assessor, who will re-evaluate his/her
decision considering your appeal. The assessor will give further feedback to you. If you are still not satisfied
with the outcome, inform your assessor immediately. You will be asked to return your portfolio of evidence.
Your assessor will communicate your escalated appeal to the Assessor Manager at VDQ RPL Committee
Support Centre. The Assessor Manager will discuss your appeal with the Moderator. Your portfolio of
evidence will be re-assessed by the Moderator and Assessor Manager and one other independent Assessor.
You will be informed of the outcome of your appeal in writing within 14 days of it being referred to the
Assessor Manager.
