OLD MANSION – ANY ERA.
‘MAYHEM & MURDER AT THE OLD DOOM MANSION.’ (6-9 GUESTS ELECTRONIC VERSION.)
Dr. Larry Doom - the heir of the Doom estate and famous chemist - led a troublesome life full of misery, lies, and deceitful practices. After receiving some bad news from his doctor that he wasn’t as healthy as a horse anymore…he reflected upon the past and of all of the evil things he had done to those close to him over the years. In a fit of regret, he begged Miss Crimson - his niece and the only one left in his good graces - to host a dinner for him at the Doom Mansion so he could resolve all the differences with those he had wronged in the past. The guests accepted the invitation and the colorful cast of characters arrived at the mansion in style and ready to enjoy a delectable dining experience and to hear what Dr. Doom had to say. However, to everyone’s shock, Dr. Doom was found murdered and the guests quickly rallied together to investigate whodunit, their motive, and how they did it before the police arrived. The guests did take a few breaks from the investigation to dine on a tasty dinner and play some amusing games as investigations are hard work! Then, while relaxing and savoring some yummy hot chocolate and desserts, they came to a final conclusion of the mysterious death of Dr. Doom. It appeared to the group that Dr. Doom probably should have made amends with at least one of the guests long ago. The moral of the story is…never waste time turning your enemies into friends…it could end up being a deadly mistake!

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE HOST Thank you for purchasing ‘MAYHEM & MURDER AT THE OLD DOOM MANSION’ game from mymysteryparty.com! This mystery party is light-hearted and a moderate sleuthing mystery that enables the party guests to play the role of an interesting character while solving the entertaining mystery. The party can be a huge success as long as you and your guests relax and let the mystery unravel during each round. The mystery game pack (this document) needs to be printed in advance of the party. Cut out the clues and stuff them into envelopes labeled with the appropriate round and character for each round of the party. It is optimal to choose different colored envelopes for each round. For a more economical route, you can simply fold the clues and label the appropriate character name and round on the outside. the party, your job as the host is to ensure that the envelopes are given to the guests at the appropriate times, the props are in place, and the food and drinks are served, and most of all – that you and your guest are having a blast!! Depending on the mystery, there might be a few props you will need to collect in advance and plant at certain places and times during the party (see below for the list). Make sure to read the host instructions for each round prior to the party to ensure that you have everything in place for the big day! This mystery comes with 9 written characters. Do not cast Dr. Doom as a character – he is only in the story line. (During round two, you can place a sheet on the floor and pretend his body is lying there.) Only 6 of these characters are required with the other 3 being optional characters. If you do not have guests for these 3 characters, simply omit the clues of these guests. If you need to have unique characters added, contact us at [email protected] and we can accommodate your request for a $15.00 fee per additional character. Since you have elected to have this mystery sent to you electronically, simply copy this file out of the PDF, and transfer to any word processing program and delete the clues or references to the omitted character in the other characters’ clues before you print the mystery. To view a pdf file, you will need the free software, Adobe Reader – this can be downloaded at www.adobe.com. You will need the full version of Adobe Acrobat to cut and paste sections out of pdf file. We also offer party ready packs where we prepare the materials for you. If you decide you want us to prepare your game, there is a reduced charge (the party ready pack price minus the cost of the game) of $72.00 on the mymysteryparty.com website under ‘mystery upgrades.’ Purchase the party ready pack upgrade and place your original order number in the custom comments section. Please note that at this time, we can only ship within the United States. We are researching for methods to make shipping economical outside of the US and for this; we sincerely apologize to our International customers. You will need to gather the following items in advance of the game:
• The printed clues for each round (by printing this document, you will have these). • Envelopes for the round clues for each character / each round. It is easiest if the envelopes are in separate colors
for each round. • OPTIONAL: the cut out squares for the ‘How Did I Die’ game (page 12) with tape affixed to the back of the
squares. • OPTIONAL: the ‘Mystery Scramble’ sheets for each team (page 19; by printing this document, you will have
these). • A pen/ pencil for each guest. • Murder Mystery Investigation Sheets for each guest (page 26+; by printing this document, you will have copies for
all guests). • OPTIONAL: The cut out squares for ‘Catch me if you can’ (page 35; by printing this document, you will have this).
These squares should be folded and put into any container. • OPTIONAL: slips of paper with the topics for the charades game (page 37) written on them, folded and put into a
container. • OPTIONAL: host supplied prizes for the winners of the challenges and for the winners - who guess the murderer,
motive and weapon correctly. If you do not want to know the solution, do not view the final round of clues. For a complete surprise, you can elect the pre-printed ‘party ready’ party pack option from the mymysteryparty.com site and we will send you the clues in sealed envelopes –‘ready to go’ (this is an additional charge and at this time is only available within the U.S.).

The rounds are designed as follows: PRE-GAME: these pre-game clues are to be delivered to each guest before the party or give them to the guests as they arrive. All pre-game clues are optional and do not alter the mystery, and are intended to enhance the pre-game build up for the event. These clues are not vital to solving the mystery. The following is a suggestion on how to host your mystery, but it is only a suggestion, it can be played in any way that you prefer. APPETIZER HOUR / ROUND ONE: Deliver these clues as your guests arrive. Serve appetizers and yummy drinks (i.e. fruit juice mixes, milkshakes, etc.). Make sure the ‘Guest Instructions’ and the ‘List of Characters’ are available for your guests to read when they arrive. DINNER HOUR / ROUND TWO: Deliver these clues while you serve dinner to your guests. DESSERT, HOMEMADE HOT CHOCOLATE AND SOLUTIONS: Deliver these clues with homemade hot chocolate and dessert. HOW TO PLAY A MURDER MYSTERY
Guest Instructions Professional actors are great for mysteries but do not worry because you do not have to be a good actor – or an actor at all – to play a murder mystery! The only quality that you need to possess is the ability to have a blast! The mystery party is separated into 3 rounds. During the party, you will be handed an envelope that contains the clues necessary for your character for the round. The clues will provide everything that you will need to solve the mystery. However, during the investigation segment of the game, you will need to ask the right questions and pay close attention to other guests’ clues to be able to get the whole picture of what has happened. In each of your clue cards, there will be some information that you can reveal in casual conversation with other guests. You can elect to have some of those clues as information that you should be ‘asked’ by other guests in order to reveal. You can hide the truth but do not lie and make up clues. This could alter the mystery for the other guests. Some of the information in your clue cards might be for actions to perform during certain rounds or to personal information to explain to you how your character feels about certain issues involving other characters or situations. These types of clues do not need to be revealed to the other guests. Most of the party play will involve mingling with the other characters and finding out about each other's characters and about the clues you all have received. As the game progresses, you should have quite a bit of information to filter through to figure out the motive and the murderer! You will be asked to submit a guess of ‘whodunit’ and why they did it at the end of round two. From this point forward, you are to remain in character until the mystery is solved. If you are playing a ‘green alien from Mars’, then that is who you are until the end! Undoubtedly, your host has cast you into a character that you are comfortable playing. There are some characters that are designed to be played more reserved than other characters that should be played more boisterous. Feel free to play your role however you feel comfortable. Feel free to embellish your character’s personality if you would like. However, if you are feeling more reserved tonight, you can opt to allow the other characters to approach you or you can simply listen in on others’ conversations to get your information. Not everyone needs to or should have the spotlight!

OPTIONAL PRE-GAME ROUND Host Instructions: Before the party, encourage your guests to view this mystery on the www.mymysteryparty.com website or use the party invitations provided by the www.mymysteryparty.com website. These items include the murder mystery description as well as a character list. This way, before the party, they can get familiar with the other characters that will be at the party. This optional pre-game round is to be implemented approximately one week before the party. Please note that this round is to generate pre-game excitement and is not necessary to solve the mystery. The ways to deliver these clues are as follows:
Cut and paste the clues from the PDF file into an email and send them to your guests (you need the full version of Adobe Acrobat in order to do this – with the free software Adobe Reader, you can only print the document – not manipulate it).
Print these clues and send them to your guests via snail mail - USPS.
You can hand these to your guests as they arrive before you give the round one envelopes.
PRE GAME CLUES: The following clues can be emailed by cut and pasting from this document – (Adobe Acrobat is necessary to manipulate a pdf file) or can be mailed to the party guests ~1 week in advance of the party or put into sealed envelopes labeled with the appropriate character and round (pre-game) and immediately handed to the party guests as they arrive at the party.

ROUND ONE – APPETIZER HOUR THE INVITE LIST IS UNVEILED! Host Instructions: Round one – appetizer hour begins as the guests arrive. Create a haunted hotel ballroom ambiance with classical music playing softly, low level lighting and formal, Gothic or Victorian décor in the party room. Appetizers / snacks should be served and the round one envelope should be handed out to each guest. Make sure a copy of the guests’ instructions (page 5) and a list of character descriptions (from the free printable invitations) are available for the guests to review. You can also creatively display the clue-containing envelopes on a table for the guests to locate their own character names. Instruct the guests to mingle with each other and get to know each other’s characters by using the information on the character list and on their round one clue cards. Tell them to feel free to ‘gossip’ about each others’ characters as they find interesting information out about each other. OPTIONAL: At the conclusion of this round, the ‘How’d I die’ (pages 11-12) game can be played. PROP LIST: These are props needed for this round. Collect these items in advance and have them ready. If the optional game ‘How’d I die’ is played, the causes of death sheets (page 12) will need to be printed, cut out, and tape will need to be affixed to the back side of them. OPTIONAL ACTIVITY AT THE CONCLUSION OF ROUND ONE: The ‘How’d I die?’ Game!

ROUND ONE CLUES – CUT OUT, STUFF INTO ENVELOPES AND LABEL WITH THE APPROPRIATE ROUND AND CHARACTER Handing the clue envelopes to the guests will start round one.
ROUND TWO – DINNER HOUR Host Instructions: Pair the guests into teams of 2-3. Facilitate the ‘Mystery Scramble’ (page 19+) game while you serve dinner (optional). After about 10 minutes, take up the ‘Mystery Scramble’ Guess Sheets from your guests and score them using the ‘Mystery Scramble’ Answer Key (page 19). Pass out the envelopes for round two to the guests and encourage them over the next thirty minutes to investigate the murder of Dr. Doom. Tell the guests to turn in their Mystery Investigation Sheets (page 26+) when they feel they have the solution. Be sure to mark the time that each guests turned in their sheets as in the case of a tie, the first one to turn in the correct solution will be the winner. Once everyone has investigated the murder, announce the winners of the ‘Mystery Scramble Challenge.' At the conclusion of this round, give all of the guests a time period in which to fill in their final guesses as to whodunit on the 'Murder Mystery Investigation Sheet' Once the last guest has turned in their Mystery Investigation Sheet, the round will end and proceed to the final round. Prop list: These are props needed for this round. Collect these items in advance and have them ready!
• The Mystery Investigation Sheets (page 26+). • The ‘Mystery Scramble Challenge sheets – one for each team of 2-3 guests’ (page 19+). • Answer key for the ‘Mystery Scramble Challenge’ (page 19).
DR. GRAPE– ROUND ONE. CLUES TO REVEAL DURING THIS ROUND During this round, mingle with the other guests to discuss the following with whomever you choose:
• Tell everyone about how you and Dr. Doom did a chemistry project together for a class in college. Say that because he did most of the work on it, he got you in trouble with the professor and you received an ‘F’ on it and failed the class.
• Tell Ms. Ivory that you know something is up with her and Dr. Doom and you demand to know what it is. Ask her if she is really just his housekeeper or if they are romantically involved.
• Say that Ms. Pheasant had 8 husbands that were all murdered in different ways. Tell everyone that in all 8 cases, the murderer is walking free as they are all unsolved cases!
PERSONAL INFORMATION (You can conceal these clues from the other guests) You would be furious if your sister, Ms. Ivory, was involved with Dr. Doom. You already don’t like the fact that she is his housekeeper. You despise Dr. Doom and haven’t spoken to him since he betrayed you over the chemistry project. Don’t forget that you are the typical absent minded professor – play your role!! You are brilliant…but lack common sense!
During the mystery, your character must be honest and not make up any potentially mystery-altering clues in addition to those provided to you. You do not, however, have to share any clues that you collect with the other guests.

• Optional – ‘Catch me if you can’ game strips folded and placed into any container (page 35).
ROUND TWO REQUIRED ACTIVITY ‘Mystery Scramble Challenge!’ ROUND TWO CLUES: Cut out and stuff these clues into sealed and labeled (i.e. round two, character name) envelopes and hand to your guests after the ‘Mystery Scramble Challenge’ to officially begin round two. GENERAL DIJON – ROUND TWO. Oh no! Dr. Doom has been murdered and his body was just dumped into the dining room! This is not NOT where he was murdered so you need to figure out immediately where the murder occurred, who did it, what their motive was …and what weapon they used to murder him! Hurry! Use the mansion layout diagram on your murder mystery investigation sheet to determine the floor plan of the mansion so you can better determine what happened. Question the other guests to get all of the facts to solve the case. Make sure to ask the right questions and take excellent notes!!
• You would definitely use a rope to murder someone. You are known to carry a revolver as well. So if either of those weapons were used for the murder…you might be a suspect!
• You were in the Dining Room when the murder occurred. You were the first one to notice that someone dumped a body in the Dining Room.
• The murder weapon was not a sharp object.
• You definitely had a motive to kill Dr. Doom. The one with the biggest motive is most likely the murderer.

MISS CRIMSON– FINAL SOLUTION ROUND THREE – READ FIRST Make sure to read the host instructions for this round. You collected the Murder Mystery Investigation Sheets at the end of round two. Ask your guests to sit in a circle. Announce the individual guesses of whodunit to the group. After the guesses are revealed, announce to the group that the final solutions will be now be read. One by one in the exact order instructed on the final solution cards (starting with you) - each guest is to read their final solution round card to the group. Before you read your final solution, read the following music lyrics to the other guests and ask them to give you the band and name of the song:
Shawty had them apple bottom jeans (jeans), boots with the fur (with the fur) The whole club was looking at her. She hit the floor (she hit the floor) Next thing you know- Shawty got low, low, low, low, low, low, low, low
Answer: The artist is ‘Flo Rida’ and the song is ‘Low’
You are not the murderer! You are the first one to read your final solution of the mystery to the group. Say the following to the group: "Yes, I admit it. I did have the most to gain by Dr. Doom’s death. However, Dr. Doom…uh hum…Uncle Larry had just agreed to star in my next film as the lead investigator in the case against my film character – the lady who kills her husband. So, I was actually looking forward to spending some time on the movie set to really get to know my Uncle Larry. I really wanted to like him…I often tried really hard but as everyone knows…he was such a mean spirited individual. But I am not the murderer! But thanks to the murderer because now I own everything in the Doom Estate! And Ms. Pheasant…you don’t get a dime of it! Uncle Larry wrote you out of the will about a month ago. After your 8th husband was murdered and you were the prime suspect again, Uncle Larry got a little scared that you’d look his way and try to murder him and get your part of the inheritance. So, he wrote you out and made me the sole heiress. Sorry sister!” MS. PHEASANT IS NEXT
