Universal Wastes Management Spent fluorescent lamps
Larger diameter used fluorescent lamps contain a small amount of mercury and are technically hazardous. They must be managed as universal waste when intact. If broken they must be managed as D009 hazardous waste. These have been replaced by the thinner diameter energy efficient fluorescent lamps (some with green caps) which do not contain mercury and are technically non-hazardous.
