The Common Core standards were
designed to make sure that students gain a
more in-depth mastery of the knowledge and
skills they will need to succeed and compete
in the global workforce. Who developed the standards?
The standards were developed by education leaders, teachers, principals and parents. They are State standards, not a federal government curriculum.
What can parents/guardians do to help their children?
Be sure your child attends school on time every day.
Make sure your child gets enough sleep every night.
Make reading and writing family priorities.
What is PBIS ?

One student will be chosen each week to be our Star Student.One extended learning pass will be given.“Strikes” can be given resulting in loss of privileges.He/she will have many responsibilities:

Extended Learning• Freedom Folder will be sent home every night and
come back the next day • Read Library book 20 minutes each night: Bring
Library book back to school! • At least one digital extended learning activity each
night• Go to http://fce3.weebly.com/ to find all the
extended learning websites• Study for upcoming tests• Projects and/or reports due • See handouts on Homework Expectations
Attendance• It is very important that students be at school everyday.
Unless your child is ill or there is a family emergency he or she needs to come to school. Even consistent tardies can affect their performance & grades in class as our work day begins immediately. All work from absences will need to be made up.
• If you know your child is going to be out, please let me know in advance so that I may gather your child’s work before he/she leaves.
• The school has many rewards for students who are here everyday and on time.

What if I am Absent or have Missing Work?
• Absent & Missing Work Policy– One extra day per absence. If not turned in, extra
copies will not be given.– Some work may need to be completed in class (i.e.
tests, quizzes)– Occasionally I will send tests home. Please only read
the directions to your child and allow them to complete the test independently.
– Missing work will only be given one time. If work is lost or not returned, more work will not be given nor will extra credit be offered.

Grading• Beginning in third grade, students will receive letter
grades. These percentages will be used to figure academic grades: 100-98 A+ 97-94 A 93-90 A-
89-87 B+ 86-84 B 83-80 B-79-77 C+ 76-74 C 73-70 C-69-67 D+ 66-64 D 63-60 D-
59-below F
• Grade Book Breakdown Language Arts & Math: 60% Tests and 40% Class Work
(Accelerated Reader is 10% of the Class Work) Social Studies & Science 40% Tests, 60% Class Work
Grades• Progress Reports at the
6 week mark• Report Cards given at
the end of each semester
• “Illuminate” to see your child’s current grades
• Students can fix tests that are below 70% for a better grade up to 70% Fix and return in the Freedom Folder.
AR Expectations
• See handout• Accelerated Reader will make up 10% of your child’s overall
reading grade.• Students will have weekly goals based on their individual
reading level.• Reading levels are determined by STAR test taken about
every 11 weeks. • Students who meet bi-weekly goal will receive class money
and every eleven weeks a Popcorn Party!• Library books need to be brought home and returned every
day.
Parent Helpers• If your schedule allows time for you
to be in class or to do work at home, your help would be much appreciated.
• We all benefit from your help! • Consistency is key!• I like to be prepared for you!

sign up for100 mile running club-get spirit charms!
