Learning for all at Morgan Street I hope that everyone has enjoyed a relaxing long weekend. I must say that it was nice to be able to sleep in on a Monday morning, especially when it was so cold. The last couple of days have showed us that winter is definitely here!
COVID-19 put a halt to the application process for Opportunity Class placement, our provision is through the Aurora Virtual Opportunity Class. We have had two students in 2019 complete the trial. It is now a full provision commencing in 2021 for Year 5 (current
Year 4 students). The online application process is open from today, Tuesday 9th June and it will close on Friday 26th June. Further information can be found at - https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-5
Our reporting to parents process will look different for Semester 1 due to the interruptions experienced by COVID-19. As per NSW Department of Education advice, we will not be reporting using the usual descriptors to describe achievement and effort. We will be sending our reports home at the beginning of Week 3 of Term 3. The reports will be accompanied by a student reflection (the student will reflect on their own learning in Semester 1) and a parents reflection sheet for comments on student learning. Three-way interviews will then proceed from Week 3 onwards. Booking forms will go home at the start of Term 3. The three-way interviews will be used to reflect on learning and set learning goals for the second half of the year.
We will be moving the Term 3 Staff Development Day from Monday 20th July to Monday 27th July. We need to move the day due to the availability of the presenter. We will undertake professional learning in the Effective Primary Mathematics Practices initiative. It aligns to our school plan and will have further follow up events throughout the second half of the year as we continue to refine our school practices for the teaching of mathematics.
A number of maintenance jobs have been completed around the school over the past couple of weeks. These include the removal of a branch in the 3-6 quiet area, relaying of pavers around the K-2 sandpit and the replacing of a fence behind the play equipment and lane. We are also anticipating news soon around the next step for the Cooler Classrooms program. The schedule for our school has been through the engineers and tendering process.
Over the winter period it is expected that children will (as normal) likely develop colds and flu. We wish to thank our families for supporting the NSW guidelines around keeping your child at home if they have flu like symptoms. We have been very grateful to families who have notified the school if their child has a COVID-19 test. Can families please continue to do this as we are required to report to the Department of Education when a student or staff member has a test.
Have a wonderful week of learning!
Thought for the Week: “To live a fulfilled life, we need to keep creating the "what is next", of our lives. Without dreams and goals there is no living, only merely existing, and that is not why we are here.” Mark Twain
