R A cross-continentalerience with a wee bit of rnational flavour, head toflies, a new restaurant inheart of Bangalore.

The antique espressochine at the fag end of thecounter catches your eye, moment you step in. Yes,that is the only remnant of

ncarlo’s, Fireflies’ Italiandecessor that was housedhe same place.Otherwise, the décor hasn completely revamped, ith glass lanterns avecnkling lights covering theing to give the look of realflies and add to the already ulging ambience. The soften and cream tones giveplace a calming, spacious

elegant feel duringtime. However over the largees, your companions canfar away which can make

conversation quiteined, resulting in a spacet’s more suited for ainess lunch than aantic dinner.

The diverse menu features

rything from Jamaican jerk cken to Mediterraneanta dishes. The specialty here thoughseafood and it’s freshugh to fool you into

nking that you’re dining inngalore, right by the coast, her than in Bangalore. While seafood is a themeoughout the menu, theood platter is a good place

tart if you’re overwhelmed.ginger prawns are a real

t and while the calamarims to be more batter thanid, this is just one minor

w of an otherwise tasty h. If you’re not a fan of ts of the sea, don’t be put

off — at least half the menu ischicken, red meat and

vegetarian options.Combine this with the wide

range of cuisines and youshould be able to findsomething to suit every palate. The pastas, though notauthentically al dente, use aninventive combination of ingredients and flavours togive you a truly Italian taste.

The Mediterranean themecontinues on the rooftopterrace lounge where you can

watch your pizza beingprepared and cooked in thetraditional wood-fire pizzaoven.

The vibe upstairs is suitedfor a relaxing drink withfriends on the lounge styleseating.

Come night and the placetransforms itself into a hip andswanky lounge with a great

view of the UB City on oneside. Swap desserts for acocktail and try a chocolatemartini, which makes for amore convincing tiramisuthan the overly-creamy

version you will find on thedessert menu.

Fireflies has an extensivedrinks list and if you’re fond of a drop of imported wine you

  won’t be disappointed withtheir selection.

If cocktails are more yourstyle, they also boast of theirown signature mix, theingredients of which they keep close to their hearts, butone sip and we thought we’dfigured it out. For the non-drinkers, there’s a signatureFireflies ‘mocktail’ too.

Although the restaurant isin its infancy there are grandplans for Fireflies includingcuisine-themed evenings andex-pat Sunday brunches with

waffles and maple syrup. So it’s clear that Fireflies is

bringing not just theMediterranean influence, but

the Canadian influence too!(Not surprising when yourealise that head chef Georgeis from Canada).

Stay tuned and check thisplace out soon, as this might

just be Bangalore’s newest ex-pat eatery.
