OPERATIONAL COST EFFICIENCYMembranes in microfiltration/ultrafiltration (MF/UF) systems
require more frequent cleaning than those in reverse osmosis
(RO) systems. To mitigate cleaning costs, generic chemicals
are commonly used. However when generic cleaners no longer
restore a membrane’s performance, their impact on operational
cost efficiency is lost. This led Avista® to develop AvistaClean®
MF products, a line of more effective cleaners specifically
designed to restore MF/UF membrane performance.
AvistaClean MF | CLEANERS
Avista MF/UF specialty formulations may be applied in place of generic cleaners or as a periodic recovery cleaner between cleanings with generics. The AvistaClean MF line is formulated to remove common foulants and offer superior results compared to generics. To assist you in identifying site-specific foulants, we offer the MF/UF Cleaning Study and the MF/UF Membrane Autopsy, which includes Chromatic Elemental Imaging, a new technology first introduced by Avista that can identify the location and relative concentration of elements in a membrane fiber sample.

MF/UF Membrane Autopsy
The MF/UF Autopsy includes a physical dissection of the membrane for laboratory testing to identify the causes of reduced performance, frequent cleans, reductions in permeate quality, extended system downtime or premature membrane replacement.
Lab ServicesAvista® offers a complete range of laboratory support services to enhance membrane performance, increase efficiency and develop new formulations for unique applications.
EXPERT PROCESS SUPPORT
Chromatic Elemental Imaging (CEI)
First introduced by Avista Technologies, Chromatic Elemental Imaging is a new and revolutionary innovation in membrane autopsy technology that can identify the location and relative concentration of elements in a foulant sample. Used as a troubleshooting tool, CEI can successfully identify and resolve the primary sources of membrane fouling.
MF/UF Cleaning Study
The MF/UF Cleaning Study may include a membrane foulant analysis to determine the efficacy of existing cleaners and regimens against select Avista formulations or the efficacy of new chemistries formulated by Avista to address site-specific foulants.
Chemical Application RecommendationsOur MF/UF Chemical Application Recommendations can determine whether an AvistaClean MF product is more effective as a replacement for a generic cleaner or as a recovery cleaner between generic cleanings.
