PSLE Matters
PSLE – Placement Exam
Need to reflect the relative achievement
level of pupils within their peers.
Places pupils into different courses
according to their academic ability.
Enables posting to secondary schools by
merit and as far as possible into a school of
their choice.
PSLE T-SCORE
A need for standardization of the
raw scores in PSLE
Transformed
Score or T-Score
Calculation of PSLE T-Score
T-score = 50 +10(x – m)/SD
Where
x is the pupil’s mark (raw score);
m is the average mark scored by all
the pupils who sat for the subject;
SD is the standard deviation
Example : • Pupil A’s marks (X) in English exam = 80
• Average mark (m) scored
by all pupils = 68
• Spread of marks (SD) around
the average mark (m) = 14
T = 50 +
= 58.57
10 (80 – 68) 14
Example :
Subject

English 85 62.14
Mathematics 80 58.57
