The medical world consists of an
unfathomable amount of careers. These
careers are characterized by the
educational requirements and the salary
offered by the profession.
Several examples of medical careers
include: Neurologists, Pediatricians,
Orthopedic surgeons, Orthodontists,
Physicians, Pathologists, etc.
The educational requirements vary from
simple vocational degrees to specialized
medical degrees. A prospective medical
student should begin to consider the
medical careers that would benefit them.
Many of the careers require an immense
amount of dedication and time.
A medical degree or (M.D) is obtained through attending a university for four or more years and then completing a rigorous application process in order to become admitted into what is known as medical school, there the student would begin an academic program in which he/she will explore the basic aspects associated with their interests. This phase consume two years of the students time. The next two or more years consist of clinical and laboratory training. If the student wishes to proceed into specialization he/she will have to enter a residency program which will consume 3-10 more years of an individual’s time based upon their specialization. Examples of such careers are: Allopathic Physicians, Specialized Physicians, Surgeons, Anesthesiologists, Chiropractors, Psychologists, Neurologists, etc.

Medical specialties can be defined as a branch of medical science that consists of several careers. Medical specialties usually require multiple years of residency and internship after the completion of Medical School. Internship and Residency’s time span depends upon the specialization of the occupation. Medical specialties are organized into the following categories: Surgical, Medical (diagnosis and non-surgical treatment), and Diagnostic specialties.
Urologists
Neurologists
Cardiologists
Surgeons (Orthopedic, Cosmetic, etc.)
Pediatricians
Radiologists
Dermatologists

Only individuals that are entitled a medical license either by a government approved professional association or a government agency. Medical School graduates must receive a license before he/she can be deemed a physician in legal terms. Medical graduates are not automatically granted a medical license, they must participate in a process (which spans from 3 to 6 months) that requires thorough examination by the medical board. The medical license is referred to as a legal documentation that allows an individual to practice medicine within a certain geographical region.
As depicted in the illustration many of the applicants did not matriculate/ were accepted into a medicinal institution due to the competitive aspect
of the application process which prompts academic excellence in the applicants. This proves to be an obstacle for the institutions admitting
such applicants.
Medical careers offer many financial advantages due to the demand for healthcare. For example, the median salary for an anesthesiologist in the state of California is $221,990. Although many medical careers require extensive education and training some only require a minimal amount of training/education. An example of this is the medical assistant profession which requires a high school diploma or an equivalent of a diploma and the median salary for this profession is $28,860.
