I used to focus on the programs (Word Excel, Internet).
I have shifted to thinking
about the creation itself
and how these tools can
help my students be the creators .

22. Professional Reflections We are efficient with the laptops
during the meetings. In past committee work, we had you typing
while we were running for print materials andflipping pages. Now we
can all be international travellers thru the internet accessing the
information at our fingertips. Also, it has given me a tool to help
colleagues when they say that they have a need. I was able to share
web sites for activities from our committee with a teacher. I think
it has made me more aware of and comfortable with technology-using
photos and programs. I am gaining the confidence to help others
play with these programs.
23. Having a laptop in the classroom has been very motivating
for my students. We have used the laptop as a mobile activity
center where the students play educational games from the internet.
More recently, we have begun creating our own photostories and
posting them on our classroom webpage. These photostories allow the
students to extend their knowledge and share it with their
families. The limitation is that we only have one laptop so doing
individual projects is nearly impossible. I am exploring many other
ways to use the laptop in the classroom, including attaining a
projector so that we can play with words as a group more
easily.
24. I am so excited to have the opportunity to use a division
laptop. I am using it for research into our Literacy topic using
our wireless internet at home. It is so convenient to take with me
to use when I travel to complete projects that I need.My school
computer tech assistant is spending time educating meon various
programs as well.
25. I enjoy the use of a laptop as part of the Early Literacy
Committee. It allows a "freedom" as to when and where a person
works on the assignments that come from being part of this
committee. We are able to break apart into groups, work on separate
issues, and bringtheseseparate documents together, before the end
of the day. It ensures that everyone has the use of a computer and
access to e-mail and the wiki space at home, where we do much of
our "homework". This means that everyone is able to stay up-to-date
on where we are as a group, even if we have missed a meeting. It
has been a valuable tool in being part of this committee.
26. The mini demonstrations that we have received from Donna,
JoAnne and sharing with each other on ways to usethe laptop into
our teaching has inspired me to experiment more with incorporating
technology into the practice of teaching. I feel like we are in
times where the students know more about computers than I do as
their teacher. Thus far, the best way I have found out about how to
advance in the area of technology isthrough thesharingwith others.
I am still in the beginnings of my growth on using the laptop as a
tool in education. However, now that I have access to one, I am
confident that I will only continue to expand its use.

uncertainty be patient to all that is unsolved in your heart
and try to love the questions themselves like locked rooms and like
books that are written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek
the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be
able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the
questions now. Letters to a Young Poet - Rainer Maria Rilke
