Mealworms
By: Jackson, Sloan, Ayan, Christan
Habitat
• Mealworms love to live under rocks or logs where it is nice and warm.
• The places that mealworms live in would be misty, damp and the soil would be rich.
• Another place you might find a mealworm could be a barn where there is long grass and dirt
• These are the things a mealworm needs in his/her home.
Life Cycle• First a dark wing starts of as a egg then
becomes a larval once it has finished that stage it will become a pupa finally it is a dark wing beetle.
• During the entire life cycle of a Dark Wing beetle is about a year, but it depends on how fast the insect ate as a mealworm.
•
Body
• A mealworm body has three body parts.
• They are a head, thoarx, and a abdomen. When they’re in a egg the are about 2
mm. long and 9 mm.
• They can grow to 35 mm. long. mealworm have six legs like most insects and six
jointed legs, A hard exo-skeleton,two antennaes, compound eyes, and a body
divided into three parts.
• It would be very hard to weigh a mealworm but I know it would weigh less than
a ounce!
Life Cycle 2
• If the mealworm ate fast then he or she would be in the larva stage for about two weeks.
• Once in the pupa stage the mealworm could stay like that for up to six weeks.
• Finally when all the waiting is done you have a dark Wing beetle,
• The beetle will stay like that until the year is up or until he is smashed by a child.
Behaviors1.Some Darkling beetles eat other insects and some don't.
2. Some Darkling beetles live up to months or years. Darkling beetles have
four wings .
3.they come in many different colors and shapes. 4.Frogs are predators that eat insects. some beetles descise themselves of being eaten.
